angra
iced earth
blind guardian
symphony x
eternity x
helloween
savatage
in flames
dark tranquility

more bands need an "x" at the end of their names

original bgm, Thursday, 17 March 2011 19:48 (thirteen years ago) link

can we petition the other guys on your list to add x's after their names? just to make the list cooler

i love that websites about these bands look exactly the same as they did in '95: http://www.truemetal.org/mastersofmetal/eternityx.htm

like putting an x after savatage would be like taking a bruch symphony and autotuning the violin parts or something

surely this is some kind of joke?

They reunited in 2010 with Steve Cox on guitar. Devon Graves and Dan Rock, replacing Steve Cox, would join the band later on to complete the original lineup.

acoustic guitars are acceptable if used during a brief interlude during a suite that musically explores the life of king james iii

Power metal is probably the only kind of extreme metal (defined by me as metal with growling vocals) that I don't actively hate. Well, that and doom metal. Not that I am a fan either (just cannot stand growling vocals regardless of style), but the prog elements tend to be quite interesting.

two years pass...

So, like, are Savatage done?

Their website's still up, but all of the news from like the last ten years has to do with Trans-Siberian Orchestra, or any of the bandmates side projects. Jon has his "Oliva" project now - are they packing it in?

Think it would be sad for them to end things on "Poets and Madmen", which was a weirdly assembled release given Zak Stevens' sudden departure. and that 'new' vocalist Damond Jiniya was in the band for all of five minutes!

I'm still not convinced Manilla Road isn't an ironic performance art piece.

I used to outright loathe power metal. But since I've started to listen to more and more metal in the past few years/started valuing escapism above pretty much anything else (in music), my stance has softened (er... hardened?) towards it as I probably listen to stuff that wobbles dangerously close power metal territory. Can't help but hate myself for that, just a little.
