one time a friend mistakenly dialed my my number (name starts with an "a," it happens a lot) and left me a voice mail that was just a half hour of him driving around and listening to yngwie malmsteen.

original bgm, Thursday, 17 March 2011 14:16 (thirteen years ago) link

"friend" admit it, it was your dad

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 17 March 2011 14:20 (thirteen years ago) link

you got me. it was my dad. and his name is "yngwie malmsteen".

original bgm, Thursday, 17 March 2011 14:21 (thirteen years ago) link

listening to Yngwie Malmsteen is like listening to a precocious, lonely teenager masturbate

ancient, but very sexy (DJP), Thursday, 17 March 2011 14:23 (thirteen years ago) link

so that's what you did as a teen?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 17 March 2011 14:24 (thirteen years ago) link

people were in awe of my flawless fingering technique

ancient, but very sexy (DJP), Thursday, 17 March 2011 14:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Yngwie answering machine story is amazing!
have any of you ever tried to play a guitar w/ a scalloped neck?
I almost namechecked Chris Impellitteri the other day. Shrapnel shred isn't really proper power metal, though, I guess.

don't really consider Malmsteen in the proper Viking-hard-charging style of heavy metal though I'm sure all the bands who are unambiguously power metal would rep for him all day

mainly I just wrote that sentence to distract power metal haters while I put sugar in their gas tanks or in the case of the inevitable crashing bore who's primed to type "I don't have a car!", to drop a deuce on the screen right where you last typed your name

computer looks and smells awesome now you dickheads

you mess with the Wingie, you get the 20 minute shredding solo bridge in the 90 minute shredding power metal song

VegemiteGrrl, Thursday, 17 March 2011 18:02 (thirteen years ago) link

aerosmith is it cool if I call your Dad 'Wingie'?

VegemiteGrrl, Thursday, 17 March 2011 18:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 17 March 2011 18:11 (thirteen years ago) link

you'd be wise to keep a civil tongue in your head when addressing the aerosmith, goalkeeper

Algerian Goalkeeper don't you have some 5-man Brooklyn combo with a vintage synth to call metal someplace? this thread is for people who actually like heavy metal

here is a list of metal bands i listened to in high school whose names i have not uttered since:

angra
iced earth
blind guardian
symphony x
eternity x
helloween
savatage
in flames
dark tranquility

more bands need an "x" at the end of their names

original bgm, Thursday, 17 March 2011 19:48 (thirteen years ago) link

can we petition the other guys on your list to add x's after their names? just to make the list cooler

xpost

"iced earth x" just sounds better imo

you cant make "helloween" cooler because it is already the coolest name there is or ever will be.

i love that websites about these bands look exactly the same as they did in '95: http://www.truemetal.org/mastersofmetal/eternityx.htm

like putting an x after savatage would be like taking a bruch symphony and autotuning the violin parts or something
