i think the funniest thing about this is that somehow, despite...everything, it's still an earworm. how was this stuck in my head as i went to sleep last night and then STILL THERE WHEN I WOKE UP? after just one viewing, most of which was spent making the :o face?

"I don't want this weekend to eeeeeend / YO R. B. Rebecca Black! Front seat back seat, drivin' cruisin', fast lanes, switchin lanes!"

this would actually be a really hard karaoke song because so many of the lyrics are just filler words crammed in - nothing really follows logically from what preceded it

The rap is kind of like someone explained to the guy what rapping was and he had to do it at short notice without ever actually hearing an example of it

I like that on the Dylan one the top rated comment is a spoof inane Youtube nostalgia moment

I agree. If only there existed this 'machine' that projected lyrics for the singer on a 'screen'

Finding CJ Fam's Ordunurry Perpstore more of an ongoing disturbance than Friday at present

MPx4A, Thursday, 17 March 2011 12:53 (thirteen years ago) link

After several views it suddenly struck me that she's totally ditching school and going all Ferris Bueller on us. There she is, waiting at the bus stop, when suddenly her ne'er-do-well friends pull up in their (stolen? borrowed?) car, and she's thinking: do I go to school? Or do I ditch and hang with my homies? The decision is easy, though, because it's FRIDAY. Know what I'm saying? Next thing you know, we flash forward to the end of an all-day rager and they're all blissfully blitzed.

The dude rapping in the car? He's a cop on the way to bust the teen party. That's why he's so happy, and why he's flying solo.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 17 March 2011 12:54 (thirteen years ago) link

"it's friday" in my head pretty much all day yesterday and this morning. just repeating forever no matter what i think about. total parasite in my brain! i can't remember the last time this has happened. kinda spooky.

there must be some scientific explanation. the tone or something. it just repeats in a loop...

I watched this video once (on Tuesday) and I can't remember how the song goes and I am terrified to watch it again lest it lodge in my brain as it has for so many of you unfortunates.

(Keep in mind I pretty much only listen to the sped-up/happy hardcore version at this point. Then it's a PERFECT earworm.)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 17 March 2011 14:08 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm hearing a Swedish Chef thing happening with her voice; the overenunciation of the "i" syllable in "Friday", and the way she says "forward" ("foerr-werrd"). It's kind of the best thing about this for me right now.

Note to self: do not post on RYM anymore

Waiting to see what will happen to her next. If she'll become the next Justin Bieber or this was just a one hit wonder.

This is such a horrible song. The lyrics could have been written by a 3rd grader probably and its simply asinine and stupid as fuck. I hope she goes away, my ears already have to hear enough bad shit daily as it is.

No, really, that song was awful. Poor lyrics, arranged awkwardly, hurts the ears, saddens the soul.

But this is RYM after all, the home of ironic fandom. My Pal Foot-Foot, anyone?

Whats the big deal? It sounds like every other pop song ever released.

The shame of it is really how they're exploiting the hell out of these naive kids. They're going to have very troubled teenage years once their classmates get a hold of this shit. Rebecca Black will probably end up being the next Brenda Ann Spencer.

I've heard people talk about this a bunch of times over the past couple days... what the hell is so special about this? Seems like a normal (though below average in my opinion) pop song to me.

I stopped listening to this song after the chorus. Does it get better?

'Somewhat'?
The lyrics to this and the few other songs I've heard from these guys... well, they're like Futurama punchlines (Fryisms) in their degree of absurd redundancy (Lines like "I can't get you out of my mind. You got me thinking of you." as an entire chorus).

I'm honestly a bit... er... not tired. What's the word?
In disagreement. I'm a bit in disagreement with this sentiment that seems to be popular among RYMers that, basically, any pop song is good pop. Presumably, there's an assumption here that pop shouldn't have to have standards. Wait. Nevermind. You just said "catchy."

as awful as this song is i do feel bad for her, she's been deulded by people that she's going to be a great pop star and that she has a wonderful voice when sh'es just going to be the butt of jokes and fade into obscurity. can't be particularly easy to deal with.

Everybody in that video deserves to die whilst painfully riddled with disentery. Bloody awful.

Ho hum.

It's Friday here tomorrow.

I was bored of this whole 'Friday' thing by yesterday (Wednesday).

btw it's Thursday.

It's still an amusingly poor song, but I think all this hype has way overstated how bad it really is. It sounds like something from Disney Radio, and it's funny as a (as the first thread stated, "unintentionally funny") pop song. Is it really worthy of ten million youtube views and a writeup in Time Magazine? Not really.

I would not be surprised if the marketing team behind the video/song pushed the "worst ever" as a brilliant form of viral marketing. Taking a bad song by an unknown artist and making it seen by millions = genius even if the song is not.

Every single person on that thread is OTM (off the mark)

No thank you. As I recall from my one listen, she made partying sound singularly unpleasant.

The concept for the music video is based on a typical Friday for Rebecca Black.[11] She wakes up and then heads to school, meeting up with her friends on the way. The focus then turns to the evening, as Black and her friends ride in a Chrysler Sebring convertible, before arriving at a party.[12] An adult guest rapper makes an appearances towards the end of the song, driving a car.[13]

Usher also made a surprise appearance at Super Bowl XLV to sing his song, " OMG" with the Black Eyed Peas' musician will.i.am.[92] He appeared on a rope from above, in a similar style to the Back Eyed Peas.

Most recently, in March 2011, Usher appeared as a guest rapper in the music video for "Friday," by Rebecca Black.

Jey has also produced remixes. In 2010, he remixed US guitar legend and former member of glam rock band Poison, Richie Kotzen's top selling single "You Can't Save Me".[citation needed]
