Never got that whole concept of "letting your feet breathe". I had a pair of Vans - literally consisting of nothing but cloth - that turned out to be the soppiest, sweatiest shoes I've ever owned.

Yeah I have leather bible sandals -- slightly birkenstockish but teva/naot brand. I occasionally get shit for them. I would like to find some kind of soft, breathable alternative (I also hate getting the sandal tan).

the chuck taylor slip-ons are pretty great. i bought mine a half size too big and can put them on without bending over. i haven't worn them without socks, so not sure how stinky they get. all of the anti-open-toe ppl so, so, otm

Adidas are sweet, but holy god are their tongues obnoxious. I mean they've bothered me so much that I've emailed the company... and browse thru any Zappos review, a lot of ppl think the same. They're v long and stiff (bite into you w/ every step), iono why they're so fond of the design.

Yeah mine were canvas. Converse are made of canvas, right? Lotta friends tell me their feet feel great in them, that they really get to breathe and are great barefoot...and I'm just always going wtf. Sometimes I really think think people are misinterpreting the quality as some sort of metaphorical thing... like their feet get to "breathe" via nut being "crushed by cushions or thick materials. imo I don't think I've ever owned a shoe where I felt my feet... um, tickled by the wind.

I am having a miserable time finding decent-looking (like, somewhat officey professional style) shoes that I can walk ~3 miles a day in. Question for in orbit and anyone else who knows anything about character shoes: these are intended for serious wear, yah? But are they somehow OK for dancing on stage but not walking around a lot in places that, er, aren't theaters? Because I'm getting desperate here and a nice T-strap with a 2-2.5 inch heel that is kind to feet and can take a beating would be sooooooooooo great.

and I really like them, but the bottom layer of the sole is this weird synthetic material that I guess is glued on, and I had the glue melt and the sole come loose while I was on a subway escalator. Luckily I was at Lex/53rd and my shoe repair guy is right in the subway station -- he said he had never seen the sole material before.

they are "expensive" because they're made of natural calfskin, made in europe, and aimed luxury consumers. but they're actually rather cheap for a sneaker that ticks all of those boxes.

yeah was gonna say price actually seems very reasonable, in a similar range to campers, many of which are not as expensive a material as calfskin.

First time I have done one of these leather nu-sneaker type shoes. It has nice details, photos actually don't do it full justice.

They are fantastic. Quite pricey but I've bought similar shoes (though leather instead of suede) ten years ago and I'm still wearing them.

Those pointers turned out to be kind of a bust. That brownish coating on the sole is glue-like and sticks/peels easily.

I've switched from Chucks to PF Flyers because I needed to be able to put in an insole - somehow the sizing is even dumber than Chucks so I had to order 15s.

I bought some black Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenue factory seconds in their factory second sale. No obvious defect that I can see. Def the nicest pair of dress shoes that I’ve owned, simple but the leather just looks and feels so much richer, even the smell is nicer.
