That sounds great, they should get him to do a Residentadvisor podcast.

Heard "Lotus Flower" on the radio the other day, and it suddenly struck me as vaguely similar to PJ Harvey's "The Mess We're In." Which of course features Yorke.

Yech, having just read the article itself I'm revolted. (Not by Yorke but by the author, that's some terrible writing.)

cosign w/ Ned here

No one had a clue what to expect from the enigmatic frontman.

i havent seen a full setlist or anything for yorke's gig but uhhh anyone who's ever glanced at the Dead Air Space office charts would know *exactly* what to expect i'd imagine?

like, in what world would a Thom Yorke dj set *NOT* include burial, jaylib, fela, modeselektor, etc. etc.?

Actually what Lotus Flower really reminds me of is one of Apparat's vocal tracks, both the beats and the falsetto. And there's clearly some feedback loop of influence given that Thom's repped for Moderat in the past, and Apparat included Harrowdown Hill on his recent DJ Kicks.

Yeah there's not much doubt in my head that Apparat could make a better Thom Yorke electronic record than Yorke himself can, but that's beside the point.

ilxor finally heard kol!

congrats

this is the first Radiohead album I have ever listened to in its entirety.

maybe because it's so short lol

garage rock is usually very land-based (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 11 March 2011 23:01 (thirteen years ago) link

in rainbows was pretty short too and much better

I finally heard it! It's okay, more like a collection of b-sides though, not in an awful way.

Give up the ghost is def the jewel in the crown so far though...

this album is actually good, the problem is that you expect so much more. favorite, so far, is "Little By Little."

what i'm hoping now is, if they want to go in this direction, then release one of these things once a year. have 10 mini-albums for the next ten years.

will In Rainbows be the last classic album from Radiohead?

i wore this out the first week and now kind of forgot about it. i should return to it, I suppose.

'the universal sigh' sounds like a radiohead parody

just released 24big FLAC for all the people who spent £10 on it as .wav/.mp3 and now want to spent another £10 on a slightly better format....

Can't see that pissing off any fans out there.....

Vinyl has made Give Up the Ghost semi-listenable.

Melissa W, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:11 (thirteen years ago) link

'Give Up the Ghost' is still one of my favorites in here... has the same sort of 'pastoral'(?) feel of '4 minute warning'.

Actually could have fitted pretty good in KoL instead of being reduced to b-side material.

Moka, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 15:13 (thirteen years ago) link

just read "KoL" as "Kings of Leon" -- as in, Radiohead wrote a song that could've fitted in Kings of Leon's arsenal instead of being reduced to a Radiohead b-side.

We could say that about 'Bangers and Mash' actually.

Moka, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 15:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Kings of Leon would never have written Bangers & Mash (terrible as that song is).

Matt DC, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 15:40 (thirteen years ago) link

i think i like these record store day tracks better than anything on the record.

adult music person (Jordan), Saturday, 16 April 2011 17:38 (thirteen years ago) link

'the butcher' plays some rhythm games similar to 'little by little' but i think it works a lot better here...neither the kick nor the bass hit on the downbeat, so when the main beat finally drops in the middle it feels like everything flips around/snaps into place (but in a much more satisfying way than 'lxl').

adult music person (Jordan), Saturday, 16 April 2011 17:41 (thirteen years ago) link

The Butcher should have been on the album.

Melissa W, Saturday, 16 April 2011 20:21 (thirteen years ago) link

hmm, I think Supercollider (7:02) must be the longest Radiohead song? paging LJ

Z S, Saturday, 16 April 2011 20:42 (thirteen years ago) link

And the longest for no reason!

Melissa W, Saturday, 16 April 2011 20:45 (thirteen years ago) link
