madfiber are just cheapo/generic Lightweights right?

Dear Caroline, I miss you terribly. The time has come to put ours (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 10 March 2011 02:12 (thirteen years ago) link

madfiber look like the same general concept as LWs with flat carbon spokes bonded into the rim, execution a bit different tho - paired spokes, white industries (i think?) hubs. they're a good bit cheaper too.

Not sure how lustworthy anything called a 'Venge' is.

Scott's entry into the Aero-Road category: http://www.bikeradar.com/gallery/article/scott-foil-aero-road-bike-launched-29884?img=1&pn=scott-foil-aero-road-bike-launched&mlc=news%2Farticle#1

It's based on their Plasma TT bike or something, which was one of the few TT bikes that really caught my eye in shops recently. Wonder if this will put price pressure on Cervelo etc.

sous les paves, Sunday, 17 April 2011 04:55 (thirteen years ago) link

the all-black one is classy. very stealth bomber (= appropriate).

atlas frugged (haitch), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 01:41 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm thinking to myself "sure aero makes sense, I'm usually riding without the benefit of a draft" but then I could also just lose a headset spacer. Or two.

lukas, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 01:44 (thirteen years ago) link

the true aero advances will be made when we evolve to the same shape as dolphins!

atlas frugged (haitch), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 01:56 (thirteen years ago) link

but then I could also just lose a headset spacer. Or two.

...and then you risk losing power, or v02max.

aero is not everything, check out Indurain's set-up when he set the hour record.

have been making eyes at the giant defy advanced at the shop lately - worked out from geo charts that i could slam stem on one, yet actually have bars in higher position than i do on caad9 currently w/ spacers, heh heh.

atlas frugged (haitch), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 06:09 (thirteen years ago) link

i didn't know "slam that stem" was a thing, but i like that. yknow, w/in reason. aesthetically im not really w/ neg rise flip because of the fugly.

and tall headtubes are just another grim reminder of how old people's bodies betray them, too dire. just quit, ok? i saw

this said, i have a 2mm spacer under my f99 because it is ~delicate~

also, it's possible that my standard headset makes "slamming the stem" definitionally impossible as the headset = a sort of spacer, right?

ok, you're in the business of really bright colorful unusual hoods. so for your splash page... you desaturate the images until you can barely see colors? like why didn't you go b/w lol. design fail.

^^seems a good idea if you are good with a spanner, imo. tho i guess a lot of people would be better off with two separate bikes, you wouldn't want to be changing it around all the time.

right now I'm lusting after the 70's Condor that I'm bidding on on fleabay, have a horrible feeling I'll end up outbid, especially as I'll be riding home when the auction ends.

problem chimp (Porkpie), Friday, 27 May 2011 15:37 (twelve years ago) link

totally scored this beauty - Condor Chancery - getting it Sunday, am thinking brown leather saddle, same bar tape, do I put a more interesting bar on? Or leave the nice curvy one?

that link totally doesn't work, sorry

(how do you link pics from ebay?)

problem chimp (Porkpie), Friday, 27 May 2011 22:40 (twelve years ago) link

I found the listing. Yeah brown leather saddle and bar tape should make it nice. I like the bar, maybe loose the suiciders, though.

I hadn't noticed those top levers, they'll go quickly for sure. Can't make out what gruppo it is, a bit of research says that OG condors used only campag. Do friction shifters need specific mechs or are they interchangeable?

if England pull out of FIFA, which one of these teams will beat them in the quarter-finals of the VIVA World Cup?

Interchangeable.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Saturday, 28 May 2011 13:04 (twelve years ago) link

"loose the suiciders"? They're dangerous enough without loosening them :)

(perosonally I'd see how well they work/can be made to work, and keep them unless they're rubbish. I heart brakes on the tops)

Mark C, Tuesday, 31 May 2011 10:38 (twelve years ago) link

Ok managed to undo 1 of 4 wheel nuts (1/2 inch they seem to be so I've had to use adjustable spanner) so far and the top bolt is proving reluctant to move.... May have to find a replacement rear mech too, the cable grip is fused which is pretty annoying. The rust spots are proving eminently curable though, especially using the alu foil trick.

problem chimp (Porkpie), Tuesday, 31 May 2011 20:07 (twelve years ago) link

oops, Condor = not actual "condor" but rather a Falcon sub-brand...... On the other hand, don't mind at all taking parts off and replacing with working/cheap stuff now. Did find a cheap-assed but correct sized NOS wheelset at 48 quid last night....

problem chimp (Porkpie), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 09:35 (twelve years ago) link

Very impressed with this Felt write-up, but most of all with the sheer number of size options :)

http://www.cyclingnews.com/reviews/felt-f2-review

Mark C, Wednesday, 1 June 2011 12:54 (twelve years ago) link

Chris, tell me more about the wheelset. 27" as well? If not, will it fit?

Mark C, Wednesday, 1 June 2011 12:55 (twelve years ago) link

It is 27" yeah, from some place in Bolton. Probably heavy, but probably bombproof. Weinemann rims etc. Will need a cassette too, will stick with 5 speed. Seeing as I am not reviving an old classic, as discussed elsewhere, I think I might put on a front rack in the porter/randonneur style so I can hipsterise around.
