Thats like asking someone to pay for a cigarette. Karma, man.
― gnarly gnarlingtons in my life (Trayce), Tuesday, March 8, 2011 6:44 PM (23 minutes ago)
i totally charge people money for cigarettes, not my friends, but other people.
― sarahel, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 03:09 (thirteen years ago) link
There used to be single cigarette vending machines, BTW, at least one of which delivered them to you already lit.

Was the dispenser head-height, too? So you just stand in front of it and it pops a fag into your mouth? And then you turn to an imaginary camera, do a sly wink, and amble away?
― emil.y, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 03:13 (thirteen years ago) link
I can't remember what it looked like, but I don't remember it looking like it would be as fun to use as the one you just made up. :-)
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 03:17 (thirteen years ago) link
Ah man, I was all carried away with my cigarette-dispensing fantasy, and then I started thinking about what it would be like if a tampon vendor did the same thing.
Sadface.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 03:19 (thirteen years ago) link
lol I pretended to smoke a tampon for some theater project at age 14.

A woman is waiting for a bus with a tampon in her mouth. Another woman approaches and says, "Excuse me, but did you know you have a tampon in your mouth?" The woman says, "Oh shit! What did I do with my cigarette?"

One of the best things about my old job was that the tampon dispensers were always stocked and just open so you could take however many you wanted. We used to load up on them big time. I don't think I actually bought any the entire time I worked there.

the only boy that was not cute in the Outsiders was Tom Cruise, which is totally telling
― sarahel, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 19:13 (thirteen years ago) link
I've never made it all the way through the movie. I watched up to where there's a stabbing by some fountain and then my presentiments of impending doom were just too much, couldn't take the pressure, had to turn it off and send back the DVD.

Yes -- and he has that great smile -- like in Kelly's Heroes and Dirty Dozen. The guys in Dirty Dozen are also overall pretty hot, too.
― sarahel, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 19:17 (thirteen years ago) link
Young Guns because I would rather hang out with a bunch of outlaw cowboys robbin' trains and banks than with a bunch of emos with giant, class-issue chips on their shoulders who don't do anything bit complain and fight Soces and rescue orphans from burning buildings.
Regulators, mount up! >>>>>>>>>>>>> Stay gold, Pony Boy.

But! But dark horse candidate The Lost Boys is really my pick for the win.
― phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 19:19 (thirteen years ago) link
but the outsiders hang out in bars where Tom Waits is the bouncer, plus Rob Lowe's character is really sweet and cooks and wants to keep the family together.
― sarahel, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 19:21 (thirteen years ago) link
I remember the first time I saw that movie. It was on TV one Sunday afternoon and the "Stay gold, Pony Boy" part came on and I just sobbed and sobbed. Turns out, I was days away from getting my first period.

Everyone in Young Guns is too smirky in a smarmy, unpleasant way -- to me! Never saw that movie either, though.
The Outsiders dress awesomely. I mean, pick any; would pash.

Dirty Dozen even moreso, obv, because they are class issues all grown up and with senses of humor. And stubble.

except for the Telly Savalas character who is a misogynist sociopath

C. Thomas Howell gives me the creeps. I have no rational basis for that; he just does.
TBF I haven't seen any of these movies in a million years. I might think differently as an old lady than I did as a girl on the verge of becoming a woman.

I haven't seen any of them at all; I spent the '80s in a box and now that I know all movies about outsiders and malcontents are sure to end badly, it's too late for me to be willing to engage with them anymore.

Honestly if Ray Winstone, Paul Bettany, Vinnie Jones, Terrance Stamp, Malcolm McDowell and all those dudes kept making British gangster crime movies, I would watch every. single. one of them, even if all that changed was the characters' names.

me too
― ENBB, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 19:46 (thirteen years ago) link
Actually in Love, Honor, and Obey they pretty much all use their own real names, anyway! Plus there's "Avenues and Alleyways" being sung at gangster karaoke events throughout, so great.

i think both these movies are pretty american. or mythical-american. though maybe that means they would have been good exports. i don't know, maybe you were just not obsessed with emilio estevez like my best friend at the time was and so needed to watch these movies over and over.
