I really like this so far, better than Cuban Linx too. the production's nice and exotic, and the production on the title track is massive. "Crane Style" is great too.

better than Cuban Linx 2 I mean....

can't tell if it will be as popular w/ internet ppl as cl2. it's not as cinematic & epic, also doesn't have nearly as much hype behind it (obv) but i think it's kind of better & it's got kung fu samples & production really hits a nostalgic early wu nerve. i guess it won't tho, two albums in a row in such short sequence, not much crossover stuff

rock n'roll has grown on me :s

flopson, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 01:58 (thirteen years ago) link

I like rock' roll other than the horrid chorus, as you pointed out.

Part of me also geeks out that I've now seen the movies that they pull soundbytes from.

I agree this is better...has the cinema without being a Rza cop in his absence

orville reddenflocka (San Te), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 02:12 (thirteen years ago) link

i even like the hook now hahaha i am shameless tho

flopson, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 02:16 (thirteen years ago) link

Lol maybe it'll grow on me.

orville reddenflocka (San Te), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 02:19 (thirteen years ago) link

This is really solid, and better than OB4CL2 for me. It's denser, all of one piece, harder, more intense. Almost claustrophobic, which feels like the mood that suits Chef best.

Oh yeah, and the beat for Snake Pond is one of the best he's ever had. His voice and flow is just right - amazing.

paulhw, Saturday, 12 March 2011 01:44 (thirteen years ago) link

i like this a lot too

deej, Saturday, 12 March 2011 01:49 (thirteen years ago) link

wow i didnt think this would be any good (mustve been the cover art) -- sounds like i need to cop this tho

thank you ilxor for starting this much needed thread (ilxor), Saturday, 12 March 2011 01:49 (thirteen years ago) link

yea repeat listens have reaffirmed my initial opinion. and ditto on "Snake Pond". that shit is dope.

2 of 10 review on NME

So, you’re a founding member of the legendary hip-hip combo Wu Tang Clan. And your fans are extremely pissed because you went and done a track with that Justin Bieber.

So you decide to kick it old school, and you get in your old pals Ghostface and Rick Ross and Busta and Method Man. And hey, Estelle’s a fan, so why don’t you put her on the track ‘Chop Chop Ninja’? And, tell you what, we’ll use samples from westerns – like the hammy ‘Snake Pond’!

There’d better be a track to please the manager, let’s use the box-ticking ‘Rock N Roll’, complete with Auto-Tune and Pendulum-esque breakdown. And let’s end the album chanting “Wu-Tang” to fade! That’ll show ’em!

Can't believe I'm saying this in 2011, but the Busta verse on "Crane Style" is THE SHIT, dudes.

i can't remember the last thing i heard busta on - the ghostface record?, maybe? - but the verse was pretty good, his flow's got all jazzy
