Boggled slightly when a co-worker brought in his almost 2-year-old toddler the other day, and the kid had his own iPod Touch! Apparently he is obsessed with the game version of "DEAL NO DEAL!". We have a mac mini instead of a telly at home and our almost 2-year-old daughter has now figured out how to operate the mouse enough so that she can watch endless repeated streams of Peppa Pig. Worrying.

I don't think it's worrying! A plays on my iphone quite a bit when we're commuting. He's got a bit obsessed about watching youtube videos of 'wheels on the bus' etc. in the mornings while we get ready too which is a bit more frustrating as he's reluctant to give it up when it's time to leave the house. I have toyed with buying him a touch at times, when he's been on my phone on the train and I've wanted to speak to Chris or take a photo. If money wasn't an issue I probably would!
A watches us on the laptop but Chris is reluctant to let him touch it! He can't figure out the touchpad - hasn't twigged that he can move the arrow around.

Alice uses the laptop a fair bit (mainly for watching telly as we don't have one) and has just got the hang of the touch pad. She also likes typing out words, playing with different fonts etc which I don't think is a bad thing. But there is no way in hell she is getting a computer or TV in her bedroom. Ideally never, but definitely not until her age hits double digits. To my current way of thinking 10 is also the minimum age for a mobile phone of any kind but I know it's hard to predict what will feel age-appropriate until they actually get there!

Howie doesn't have a laptop of his own but can use a trackpad, mouse, and iPhone as well as any adult. He's only allowed on the CBeebies website though - banned Youtube after he came across some seemingly innocuous Pingu clips which had been treated with some very dubious Portuguese overdubbing. Screen time is strictly limited though and he won't be getting a TV or laptop in his room for many years.

my 2 year old just watched TV in our house for the first time. i cued up a bugs bunny cartoon so he would sit still for a haircut. for the next two days he was like "more bugs bunny?"
poops, what does he do w/the iphone and whatever? there's a pretty cool abstract color "game" on my iphone that we play sometimes but otherwise i'm not sure what he'd even do with it

I remember Amber going from "laughing uproariously" at the Teletubbies at age 6 months, to "They just do the same things over and over again!" at age three.

My kid's 7. He has an HP touch-screen, which he mainly uses for games and the internet (for netflix streaming and cartoon network). I had a hard time with this at first and kept calling it "mommy's computer" and they'd both correct me.
He has a hand-me-down cell phone from his mother that we put in his backpack when we take him places so if we ever get separated, he can just call us. This has never happened, but really puts our minds at ease. He used to like playing video game demos on our phones until he accidentally bought one and now he's got a temp ban on that sort of thing.
We gave him a small ipod shuffle that my wife used to have, but he doesn't use it much.

Tracer, there are some great kids apps out there. Tozzle is fab, Games created by Toddler Teasers, MyCar is just a fun making pictures kind of thing, lunchbox is fun though you may need to help him play bits of that. There's a couple of peppa pig game apps too!
