the trailer was cool...i'm excited for this film.

Trailer is here if you want to see it.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 20 August 2004 00:02 (nineteen years ago) link

(why is it that even Yahoo is unable to spell Tenenbaums correctly?)

Alba (Alba), Friday, 20 August 2004 00:03 (nineteen years ago) link

Hmm... it looks kind of bad to me.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 20 August 2004 00:08 (nineteen years ago) link

just like Tenenbaums then....

jed_ (jed), Friday, 20 August 2004 00:11 (nineteen years ago) link

No, NOT LIKE THAT AT ALL.

I don't know - maybe it's just the trailer but it looks like it's trying to be a broad comedy that falls flat on its face. I think the Bill Murray backlash is finally going to get off the ground.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 20 August 2004 00:15 (nineteen years ago) link

You people and your backlashes!!!!

peepee (peepee), Friday, 20 August 2004 01:08 (nineteen years ago) link

ooh that doesn't look to good. with bill murray fresh of off LiT i think people are either sick of him or expectations are too high, the end result still being disappointment. and wes looks like he might be oding on the whole cutesy-eccentric vibe.

to veer this back to music, that's 'queen bitch' by bowie BTW

jake b. (cerybut), Friday, 20 August 2004 03:39 (nineteen years ago) link

the new jarmusch film stars bill murray too (i don't mean coffee and cigarettes)

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:32 (nineteen years ago) link

I was looking through my mom's records this weekend when I was visiting and was shocked and apalled at the number of Jone Baez records she owns. Totally shocked.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:33 (nineteen years ago) link

actually i've been listening to really really early baez (from '60-ish) and it's it's pretty good pre-dylan new-weird-earnest-troubadour stuff.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:35 (nineteen years ago) link

i think ian would like it.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:35 (nineteen years ago) link

everytime i freak out at how big a doobie brothers fan my dad is i always remember my friends who's folx are all huge baez and lenny cohen heads.

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:37 (nineteen years ago) link

what albums, jody? I'll look through my mom's pile again and see which ones she has at christmas time.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:38 (nineteen years ago) link

folksingers 'round harvard square ('59) and joan baez ('60).

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:40 (nineteen years ago) link

the acts in the film kick off w/ seu jorge covering bowie songs. search and destroy is the background to the best bill murray scene in cinema history.

The Ping Island music is awesome. It sounds like Battles with an electronic beat.

Hurting (Hurting), Sunday, 26 December 2004 17:50 (nineteen years ago) link

I swear he used a Neu! track at one point in this movie, but I didn't see them listed in the credits.

And good job to whoever compiled the CD on not including Sigur Ros, not that "Starlafur" (sp) is a bad song, but it totally wouldn't fit on that soundtrack.

billstevejim, Sunday, 26 December 2004 17:58 (nineteen years ago) link

There was one song I remember hearing in an underwater scene that doesn't seem to be on the soundtrack. Maybe that was it.

Hurting (Hurting), Sunday, 26 December 2004 18:15 (nineteen years ago) link

I think he also left out the famous classical guitar concierto that's excerpted -- Villa Lobos, I think.

nicegeoff, Sunday, 4 April 2010 01:27 (fourteen years ago) link

i liked the nyer profile from a couple of months back, when he seemed bugged that slumdog millionaire had been successful, and that it was someone else's indian movie, rather than his indian movie, that was a success.

tbf his indian movie was better

is this on the internets?

also, i agree that darjeeling ltd >>> slumdog

i just posted a wes anderson poll to ILE but it's disappeared. wtf.

by another name (amateurist), Sunday, 4 April 2010 23:14 (fourteen years ago) link

also, i agree that darjeeling ltd >>> slumdog

have never seen slumdog, but the point was that w.a. seemingly saw all 'indian movies' as interchangeable, and that the public's hunger for exotica should have been met by his rather than another; their individual merits didn't seem to be a consideration.

if that's true it's embarrassing. are you sure he wasn't being tongue-in-cheek, like haha my indian movie didn't do as well as this other indian movie.

to be fair both films seem equally, if differently, exoticizing. if anything darjeeling ltd was less offensive than slumdog.

nakhchivan, Monday, 5 April 2010 00:37 (fourteen years ago) link

i read that and... arnaud desplechin just strikes me as incredibly boring. i don't really "get" his films either.

i've been googling and coming up empty: is there a film that uses steve marriott's 'give her my regards'?

it's not a well-known song, so why do i know it ==>> it must have been in a movie.

love that they meet at le select, which is classic retro-literary-tourist territory. wanderson shd make a film actually set in the first half of the 20th century imo.

Nicholas Gurewitch did a pretty rad job of this with his imaginary "Cloud Photographers" soundtrack.

This is decidedly not Wes Anderson's next movie--but maybe it should be the one after that?

A soundtrack to an imaginary film, 'The Great Wide Yonder':

I've been picturing 'The Great Wide Yonder' as Anderson's first cel-animated feature, done by the crew that did 'L'Illusioniste'/'Triplets of Bellville,' or that did 'The Red Turtle,' or that did 'I Lost My Body,' taking inspiration from 'Fantastic Planet'... Now I actually want this to happen...

Damn, I forgot he already used powerman on darjeeling limited. Would have made a great fit on a race scene.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 22 May 2020 14:06 (three years ago) link

Oh well Can and Monkees are good candidates for a wes anderson directed race.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 22 May 2020 14:07 (three years ago) link

There’s probably some very apt Italian songs that could fit but I’m just waking up and I can’t think of any atm.
