totally, we could talk about the price of coffee in china

Neu! romancer (dayo), Thursday, 24 February 2011 00:18 (thirteen years ago) link

that might only be my coffee concern though. also in my head I hear the sound of a cup filling up as the intro soundbite

Neu! romancer (dayo), Thursday, 24 February 2011 00:27 (thirteen years ago) link

in my head i imagine people giggling at it because it sounds like someone peeing

Secrets will not Block Justice (harbl), Thursday, 24 February 2011 00:31 (thirteen years ago) link

coffee does make you pee though, I like the two-pronged approach

Neu! romancer (dayo), Thursday, 24 February 2011 00:34 (thirteen years ago) link

i retired my aeropress btw its swissgold from here on

am0n, Thursday, 24 February 2011 02:24 (thirteen years ago) link

neato!! I was afraid you wouldn't like it. I think both have their uses. find that grind size is croosh to swissgold - right now I'm working through a bag of terrible, coarsely ground coffee that someone gave me, and the coffee is so weak - it's cause the grounds are so coarse that the water just passes through in like 30 seconds

Neu! romancer (dayo), Thursday, 24 February 2011 06:43 (thirteen years ago) link

this ethiopian yirgacheffe I picked up yesterday is so dope I'm so happy wahahahaha

Neu! romancer (dayo), Thursday, 24 February 2011 23:41 (thirteen years ago) link

i do like it, its as good as the aeropress but easier to clean/operate so pretty much im just lazy. what grind do u find works best, i've using medium

r.i.p. hamilton (am0n), Sunday, 27 February 2011 21:13 (thirteen years ago) link

I use medium-fine, a good way to judge is to time how long it takes for the water to 'clear' - around 3-4 minutes is good I think

i got a new kind of coffee i've never gotten before today. whole foods "island blend." because i get those 24 oz bags for 10.99, i feel they are the best value. still french pressing & using cheap blade grinder.

also i just realized we had that whole paper vs. metal filter talk a month ago. my brain is deteriorating.

Secrets will not Block Justice (harbl), Monday, 28 February 2011 00:54 (thirteen years ago) link

i got a hand crank burr grinder--i can detect a slight taste difference but im not sure its worth it vs the convenience of the blade grinder

max, Monday, 28 February 2011 00:55 (thirteen years ago) link

i like the process tho

max, Monday, 28 February 2011 00:56 (thirteen years ago) link

feel like it would be a terrible waste if dayo and harbl were radio hosts and they only talked about coffee

plax (ico), Monday, 28 February 2011 00:58 (thirteen years ago) link

what kind did you get max

Neu! romancer (dayo), Monday, 28 February 2011 01:01 (thirteen years ago) link

hario slim

max, Monday, 28 February 2011 01:02 (thirteen years ago) link

dont get me wrong i like the coffee from the hand grinder more, its just that the blade grinder is so easy

max, Monday, 28 February 2011 01:02 (thirteen years ago) link

thats the one I have, I like it a lot

Neu! romancer (dayo), Monday, 28 February 2011 01:03 (thirteen years ago) link

I read that williams and sonoma started carrying hario's line of coffee equipment, no longer makes me feel 'cool' to have one tho, probably will switch to something more exotic yamean

Neu! romancer (dayo), Monday, 28 February 2011 01:04 (thirteen years ago) link

i might buy one of those lil animals that poops out the good coffee

max, Monday, 28 February 2011 01:14 (thirteen years ago) link

i am also still cheap blade grinding and french pressing, thought i kinda want a drip w/ a stainless carafe so that i can make more coffee and keep it warm.
got a giant bag of fair trade organic sumatran at bj's that was such a good deal it makes me worried i'm going to be stuck w/ 3 lbs of really shitty coffee.

tehresa, Monday, 28 February 2011 01:21 (thirteen years ago) link

my coava disk filter arrived but I discovered that my 4 year old aeropress is giving up the ghost

the rubber plunger is all grodey and won't seal

discovered that the new aeropresses are made out of copolyester and not BPA containing polycarbonate like my old aeropress

guess it's time to get a replacement

Neu! romancer (dayo), Thursday, 3 March 2011 05:03 (thirteen years ago) link

i am happy with island blend. i usually get the super dark roasts, this one's kinda medium

Secrets will not Block Justice (harbl), Sunday, 6 March 2011 14:45 (thirteen years ago) link

is there a such thing as an insulated stainless steel french press?
i feel like i have gotten my coffee recipe down pat, but i want it to stay hot longer. i need the container to be like one of those decanters for a drip pot, but allow me to do the french press thang. is there another method that would allow me to achieve delicious coffee that stays hot longer?

tehresa, Sunday, 6 March 2011 16:37 (thirteen years ago) link

dyao posted upthread (or was it the other coffee thread) the columbia press

Secrets will not Block Justice (harbl), Sunday, 6 March 2011 17:03 (thirteen years ago) link

there is a company called tiamo that makes an affordable columbia press but I can't find any info about them on the internet : /

Neu! romancer (dayo), Sunday, 6 March 2011 23:11 (thirteen years ago) link

also a double-walled press but it's just as expensive :/

Awful lot of coffee lovers for an i hate coffee thread.

it's ok we will just have to drink less coffee at a slower rate

Secrets will not Block Justice (harbl), Thursday, 10 March 2011 13:13 (thirteen years ago) link

one month passes...

Yesterday someone gave me a fancy Krups burr grinder that she's owned for years and wasn't using. I feel exceedingly fancy today and my coffee tastes KICK-ASS compared to yest when I was forced to put beans in my food processor for lack of any other processing options.

I've been using that! also bought a grinder that wasn't too expensive. the coava is nice, does a reasonably good job of keeping sediment out of my aeropress pushes.

http://www.amazon.com/Bodum-Bistro-Electric-Coffee-Grinder/dp/B0043095WW

don't think it does espresso-quality grinding but I only ever use it for my swissgold and aeropress so it's fine for me

dayo, Monday, 26 September 2011 15:54 (twelve years ago) link

i thot u didnt like the aeropress!

max, Monday, 26 September 2011 15:54 (twelve years ago) link

I start out every day with a cup but if I want a pickmeup at noon I'll 'press

dayo, Monday, 26 September 2011 15:56 (twelve years ago) link

i love it but i make americanos w/ it

max, Monday, 26 September 2011 15:59 (twelve years ago) link

i need to buy a brush so i can clean out my chemex and start using it again

max, Monday, 26 September 2011 15:59 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i'm liking the coava disk. i also got a hario kettle which seems to make a difference somehow, maybe its the controlled pour. i kinda want one of those hario burr grinders and then i'm done buying coffee contraptions

am0n, Monday, 26 September 2011 16:08 (twelve years ago) link

i have a bialetti moka too but haven't tried it yet :/

am0n, Monday, 26 September 2011 16:09 (twelve years ago) link

i got the disk solely so i don't have periodic anxiety attacks about running out of the paper filters

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 26 September 2011 16:14 (twelve years ago) link

So what would you recommend for someone who wants to get a press but is totally new to the whole thing. I drink reg old filter coffee now but think I'm ready for the next step. Recs here pls. Nothing too complicated.

will eat pudding (ENBB), Monday, 26 September 2011 16:17 (twelve years ago) link

moka doesnt really compare to aeropress ime, except as an exercise in authenticity

max, Monday, 26 September 2011 16:18 (twelve years ago) link

get a french press, erica

max, Monday, 26 September 2011 16:18 (twelve years ago) link

just one of the regular old bodum ones--great coffee, easy to figure out, not too ambitious or nerdy

max, Monday, 26 September 2011 16:19 (twelve years ago) link

the moka is also harder to "get right" than the aeropress (ime)... i havent tried mine since i got the burr grinder, maybe ill bust it out and give it another shot tonight

max, Monday, 26 September 2011 16:20 (twelve years ago) link

dude WHAT

aeropress = same price as bodum, makes coffee that is like 1000000 times better; way easier to clean
