Yeah, just found the U Street calendar. The only thing happening while I'm there is "Nouveau Riche," which doesn't appear to be my kinda scene. Oh well.

Why didn't anyone tell me about the Mark E remix of Annie's "Greatist Hit" from last year? Its obviously not nearly as good as you would dream, but still...

o0o00h really? (boxedjoy), Friday, 18 February 2011 19:14 (thirteen years ago) link

on the beats in space they mention a remix of teengirl fantasy's "cheaters" coming out soon, which has a very high probability of being amazing. speaking of which, can we talk about teengirl fantasy here? or is that more of a 'dance partisans' thread thing

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Friday, 18 February 2011 19:33 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah not sure they fit this thread but i just found out about teengirl fantasy recently and love them

gr8080, Friday, 18 February 2011 21:04 (thirteen years ago) link

if i were a wrestler, "cheaters" would be my walk-in music

"Dancing in Slow Motion" is a jam

Number None, Saturday, 19 February 2011 08:10 (thirteen years ago) link

i tried looking this up the other day and couldn't remember, but that teengirl fantasy song samples like the orb or orbital or something. the video has a guy dancing in a field somewhere. anyone know what i'm talking about?

jaxon, Saturday, 19 February 2011 21:04 (thirteen years ago) link

btw here is a thread for future times: FUTURE TIMES records: BEAUTIFUL SWIMMERS / MAXMILLION DUNBAR / PROTECT-U etc

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 08:13 (thirteen years ago) link

k, it wasn't orb or orbital, it was underworld. and i can't remember who sampled it now

you know what kicks ass?

brotherlovesdub, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 22:16 (thirteen years ago) link

pretty sure it wasn't teengirl fantasy that sampled that underworld track, at least not on "cheaters"- i think the synth line is original in that song, the other part samples love committee i blv

cover version of "two months off" does indeed kick ass tho

ah! here it is. we're totally off track of this thread now

Belvide Beat on vinyl will be amazing! Probably my favourite track he played on BiS last year

du mein bestie (micarl), Thursday, 3 March 2011 17:51 (thirteen years ago) link

been listening to "Works 2005 - 2009" almost exclusively this week

this edit of Grace Jones' "La Vie En Rose" doesn't really fit this thread but its awesome regardless:

gr8080, Thursday, 3 March 2011 18:08 (thirteen years ago) link

what is the title of the mark e album? is it self-titled?

ooh and belvide beat is the one with the alexander robotnick sample right? or at least it sounds like it, i remember reading that a ton of italo tracks used that "ah-ooh-wa" female vocal part

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Thursday, 3 March 2011 19:15 (thirteen years ago) link

As long as there's at least one track on it up to the standard of "R&b Drunkie" or "Scared" this will be worthy of my time. I only found out a few weeks ago there's a second Works 2005-2009 compilation, which made for an ideal unexpected surprise.

My interest is also piqued by the forthcoming Tiger and Woods album.

EDB, Friday, 11 March 2011 22:11 (thirteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...

so, yesterday i was approached by a PR asking for my skype details as a german magazine wants to interview me about my album.
took a few minutes before the penny dropped.
can't deny i did have a thought to step up and do the interview and talk about my love for Foetus et al, as opposed to downtempo sunshine grooves.

mark e, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 10:15 (thirteen years ago) link

haha! for real?

andrew m., Tuesday, 29 March 2011 14:22 (thirteen years ago) link

yup.
not the first time the confusion has happened.
normally, its 'hello, i like your music' type of emails, but this took things to a new (and possible fun) level.

love this so much

Love those dark swells in that new Cottam so much.

This one on Kolour LTD is nice. Was skeptical but now loving Cole Medina's "True 2 the Disco"

andrew m., Wednesday, 6 April 2011 18:37 (thirteen years ago) link

That revenge edit is great. He, along with 6th Borough project, are fast becoming my favourite producers/editors of the moment.

That actually reminded me of this slo-mo house jam from 6 years. Am I correct in hearing the same/similar samples in this?

EDB, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 20:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh, I didn't know we had a thread about the Revenge. I've got their album somewhere but ain't listened to it yet.

Evil Eau (dog latin), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 20:46 (thirteen years ago) link

xpost that samples this

jaxon, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 20:52 (thirteen years ago) link

Revenge album is OK, a nice collection of edits but a bit of a hodgepodge and not quite the deep-beat slo-mo jams we're used to from him. More along the lines of other fare from Z Records (Joey Negro's label). the Mark E album, on the other hand, is fucking great. most of the tracks hover around 115 but the slower ones are killer. Really digging it at the moment.
Other stuff that should be getting talked about in this thread:

Duff Disco
Dead Rose Music Company
Daniel Solar and his label Dikso (I believe it's his)
Sleazy Beats label
Eclectic Avenue label
LTJ, the Super Value and Small World Disco labels

posting some current jams below:

btw, a little BSP - if you're in SF, i'll be playing this sort of stuff at the afterparty for the Sunset season opener on Sunday, at Milk starting around 9 or so. if you go to the Sunset party, head by afterwards for some slo-mo action!
