Strokes bumped to the main stage @ that festival in timely wave of NME hype you may/may not recall.
Lo-Fi Allstars were p good, and were good on that occasion too.

yeah foals aren't a great fit with the view etc, but still pretty bad
they're a great example of earnest young musical types who can't think outside of thudding gtr indie tramlines
YEAH IT'S NOT ACTUALLY INDIE, IT'S MNML TECHNO WITH REAL INSTRUMENTS

athlete: Pro: nothing. Con: vocalist v v irritating, bad slack playing on the rekkids I heard on radio back in the daybabyshambles: Pro: nothing. Con: total sinkhole of shitness w no redeeming qualities whatsoever CONTENDERbiffy clyro: have heard this but cannot remember a single thing, not even what it sounded likeflorence and the machine: Pro: find singer attractive. Con: totally unmemorable, watched several youtubes, no memory at all of even what it sounded likehard-fi: Pro: did actually rock, one of their singles was 1/2 decent IIRC. Con: not very memorablehundred reasons: never heard them or can't remember then anywayjoe lean and the jing jang jong: have heard them but left no mark on my memory whatsoever.kaiser chiefs: Pro: kind of liked the single or at least until heavy rotation made me sick of it. Con: none really, they weren't THAT bad.kasabian: No memory of what these sounded likekeane: Pro: sounded pleasant on the radio once ior twice. Con: cannot remember any of their tunes, despite hearing at least one of them enough times.mumford and sons: Pro: nothing. Con: Awful, awful music, CONTENDER.noah and the whale: Pro: nothing Con: irritating sounding band IIRC. can barely remember them.pigeon detectives: Who?razorlight: Remember these getting some heavy airplay, cannot even remember what they sounded like.scouting for girls: Pro: Nothing. Con: Shit, clunky music, shit tunes, creepy lyrics delivered by creepy singer, ugh WINNERsnow patrol: Passed through leaving no impression whatsoever.starsailor: No memory of what this band even sounded like.the courteeners: Vaguely remember the name, never heard the band.the cribs: who?the enemy: Who?the feeling: Pro: can actually remember what their single went like. Con: I didn't like it, it was sappy.the fratellis: Pro: nothing. Con: annoying sounding band CONTENDERthe futureheads: Never actually heard these.the hoosiers: Pro: nothing. Con: Record was shit, only memorable bit was nicked off ELO anyway.the kooks: Never heard thesethe magic numbers: Pro: one of their singles was pleasant enough, find female member w long hair attractive. Con: nothing really, they were not all that bad I suppose.the ordinary boys: Who?the others: Who?the rakes: Who?the stereophonics: Band from an older gen? Don't feel like they belong here somehow. Awful, anyway.the twang: Heard of these today, watched clip on youtube, have forgotten what it sounded like already.the view: who?the wombats: there used to ne a local pub blues band up here w/this name, I doubt this is them. Never heard of them.the zutons: Never heard themtoploader: likewise stereophonics
If one of these bands had written or performed on tune that I can remember in it's entirety I would have more time for them even if I didn't like the tune. A lot of these bands get props for their songwriting skillz in their publicity doggerel IIRC? Should be prosecuted under the trades description act. If I were managing a 00's/10's landfill act I would tell them to fuck off with writing anything and get them to cover Harry Warren tunes.

I was expecting real crappy uk bands. Almost all of these bands have one or two singles which I would deem decent or good. Nothing particulary groundbreaking and can't vouch for any of their albums tho so...
Are we voting the best one or the worst one?

the following bands i can't bring to mind a single note, even in cases where i know i've heard song or songs by them dozens of times: hundred reasons, joe lean and the jing jang jong, starsailor, the courteeners, the others
ey that's less than i thought it would be. god bless my excellent use of memory. the only one that seems unreasonable is starsailor, but all i remember of how they sounded is MEW MEW MEW MEW MEW.
― Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Thursday, 17 February 2011 18:38 (thirteen years ago) link
Favorite ones in here would probably be: hard-fi (the few songs I've heard sounded influenced by The Clash which is good in my book), the magic numbers, kasabian, the zutons and kaiser chiefs.
Worst ones for me would be: mumford and sons, keane and scouting for girls.
― Moka, Thursday, 17 February 2011 18:38 (thirteen years ago) link
xp oh right, having looked at single releases, now i remember them. MEW MEW MEW MEW MEW was correct, though.

Wait... band that actually sounded influenced by The Clash was Harrisons. Only song I've heard of Hard-fi is 'hard to beat' which was good but not good enough to get me interested in them.

They've got a couple of songs which bring back great memories (particulary 'chelsea dagger') of the year I was living in France. That song was played every now and then on rock clubs and parties around Montpellier and Barcelona in 2007. Not sure if I'd have enjoyed them by listening to them on my own...

athlete - iirc their second album cover looks like a hoover and that makes me think of lj and that makes me giggle.babyshambles - POTENTIALLY THE BEST first album had some killer jams on it. dhoerty is a dick but at least a panto-dick.biffy clyro - POTENTIALLY THE WORST lol smelly and welsh.florence and the machine - broad can't sing, saved by that remix which is a cover of their cover iirc.hard-fi - arrogant tuneless dickheads who thought they were gonna save music or something.hundred reasons - you know if hundred reasons make it, other kerrang fodder like A should. A was a useful band name when wanting to google someone, I guess.joe lean and the jing jang jong - A name to bring me out in lex pretend esque hives.kaiser chiefs - saved by tv panel show chumminess, i guess, but their music is wank, ey.kasabian - THE ACTUAL WORST not because of the Oasis fan base or the shit songs but because of the ridiculous pretentiousness that means nothing and somehow getting away with it, like wtf? why weren't you dropped for releasing something called... give me a second to wiki it... West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum with *this* as the cover? http://img.amazon.ca/images/I/51VVTBiHXKL._SL500_AA300_.jpgkeane - eh. kinda pleasant for people in their 50s; would be like having michael buble in the poll.mumford and sons - afaik i've successfully not heard this band, not at uni anymore i guess. one of them is shagging laura marling tho, so she may have a good influence in the future?noah and the whale - lol what?pigeon detectives - hey guys its the libertines! oh wait no it isn'trazorlight - POTENTIALLY THE WORST although saved by being almost comatose at Reading Festival after like an ounce of weed, stumbling back to my tent with a friend, giggling insently at how loud the chants of *RAZORSHITE RAZORSHITE RAZORetc* were getting, only to not end until their set did. We were in the furthest away tenting area and still heard the whole thing :Dscouting for girls - POTENTIALLY THE WORST scott mills popsnow patrol - I started buying Q before I bought the NME as a teenager. I think they happened to go through a run of cover stars who I liked (Em, Radiohead, Libertines, PJ Harvey although maybe not in that order or exactly 4 months in a row iirc). It was incredibly shit to read.starsailor - Drawing a blank.the courteeners - hey guys its the libertines! oh wait no it isn'tthe cribs - THE BEST these guys are awesome, even if one of them stuck his dick inside the fanny of kate nash.the enemy - drawing a blankthe feeling - isn't one of them shagging sophie ellis bexter? kudos to that guy and maybe she had a decent enough influence for some album tracks here or there?the fratellis - POTENTIALLY THE WORST ARGH THE WANT TO BREAK THINGS. Only not the worst because they seem to have been forgotten in time.the futureheads - POTENTIALLY THE BEST Hounds of Love could be my #1 of the decade, proper sound of my university education was that.the hoosiers - more like whoosiers, amirite? i once saw a Hollyoaks storyline based around going to buy their first album on the day it came out - FACT. Dunno what they sound like though.the kooks - the kooks more like the shit.the magic numbers - fat people get offended when you call them fat, fyi.the ordinary boys - reggae done by white boys in this day and age always NAGLthe others - remember being sat in sixth form with my friend paul weeing ourselves at an nme article based around the main dude in this talking about how subversive he is because he likes obscure BOOKS by osbcure writers like GEORGE ORWELL and how he loved to bang TRANNIES. years later I stopped having a crush on a girl I knew, not because of her massive coke problem or thick brummie accent but because she was wearing an others t-shirt. they were shit, obv.the rakes - i know this band existed and i know i've heard them before butthe stereophonics - of the 00s?the twang - anything to do with Blak Twang? Cos he was dope once upon a time. Responsible for Estelle, too.the view - scottish, iirc?the wombats - POTENTIALLY THE BEST these guys had some jams iirc. Moving To New York, Lets Dance To Joy Division, Kill The Director - all legitimate late 00s indie club classics.the zutons - lol ws the girl.toploader - of the 00s?
