My main problem with In Rainbows is that it lacks unarguable tunes tbh. Understated and subtle Radiohead resulted in A Punchup At A Wedding which is one of my favourite Radiohead songs, but that one's taut and nervous and unearthly and dramatic in a way that only a few of In Rainbows' tracks approach

I feel very strange going into this album, because I used to love Radiohead's music, and now I don't get much pleasure out of it.

I will never forget finding out about In Rainbows...anticipating it like hell, and there on that Wednesday morning, seeing the update on the school internet. Limbs I'm just going to look forward to hearing this weekend, and try to reconnect and cast my mind back to my fandom of this band.

I guess if they're going to go "subtle"* I'd rather they do so like "Go To Sleep" or "I Will" rather than... um I can't even match In Rainbows song titles to the songs, which one is the one in 6/8?

* this seems like a very odd word to use in conjunction with Radiohead

yeah A Punchup isn't really *subtle* as such, more 'incremental', brooding, and eventually spectacular

I listened to In Rainbows in the downstairs part of the library for the first time, bunking off a morning lesson as I was so excited. The chills lasted the entire day.

I would've ranked it as no2 behind Kid A across their discography.

Punchup is the worst song on any Radiohead album, it's just plodding.

I predict this record will sound nothing like dubstep, either dubstep proper or some kind of James Blake indiestep. It would feel like too obvious a move.

At any rate nothing is worse than everything on Pablo Honey that isn't "Creep"

or "Blow Out" or "Stop Whispering"

(There are too many songs on HTTT that compete for favorite song from that album for me, which is another reason why it's my favorite Radiohead album.)

xp I don't know about proper predictions, but it just seems likely to me that they'll respond in their own way to 00s dubstep the way they did to 90s IDM.

Either way, I like how we've had barely any pointers or hints about its direction. Such a surprise when we hit play I guess..

god yeah, where to start? 2+2=5 is one of the best opening tracks qua opening tracks of the 00's and it keeps on being amazing from there onwards

xp: last time we got this level of surprise, I hated the album

i'm hoping for a heavily electronic album that's influenced by all the recent shit they've been listening to, but i really doubt that's what we're getting.

xp I dunno, I was geeking out on live tracks they played on the 2006 tour, so actually the only proper surprise for me with IR was hearing how they'd sound all recorded, mixed and sequenced.

I can't find any reference to the 'King of Limbs' in the Qur'an because there isn't one. Whoever wrote that got confused. After searching for 'King of Limbs' via google, they probably arrived at a [1] wikipedia page about the Qur'an which mentions a commentator 'Ibn Kathir' who used the term to expand on a verse. He described the heart as being 'the king of limbs' while explaining his understanding of the Qur'anic term 'Al-Khushoo'.

The site of al-Khushoo is in the heart and heart is the king of the limbs, so if one intends to pray wholeheartedly the limbs will follow the heart.

Wikipedia says the average price paid for In Rainbows was £4 (based on a survey of 3,000), and I was sure I saw somewhere else that the average was $5... Regardless, it seems inaccurate to assume they came up with those prices from In Rainbows data
