Ridiculously I was taken 'out' of the episode by the fact that Jeff etc were watching the Liverpool/Man U game at 6:30 pm Denver time which would mean it was kicking off at sometime around midnight English time! It really bothered me.

I wouldn't be surprised if soccer gets tape delayed in the US.

nickn, Friday, 11 February 2011 21:43 (thirteen years ago) link

No tape delays on the East coast for European football matches afaik (at least on DirecTv). Not sure how it works in the Mountain time zone, though.

Idgi Pop (KMS), Saturday, 12 February 2011 02:07 (thirteen years ago) link

no tape delays in the midwest either

"BNL"

VegemiteGrrl, Saturday, 12 February 2011 17:50 (thirteen years ago) link

i like that setup, where they have one study group member suddenly let slip their complete disagreement/oddity and the others all turn against them—britta's 'bagel', barenaked ladies… i feel like there have been some more but i can't remember them.

j., Saturday, 12 February 2011 19:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Do people really leap to defend BNL? I have never experienced that. The Tragically Hip, sure.

polyphonic, Saturday, 12 February 2011 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

Thats why it's funny?

VegemiteGrrl, Saturday, 12 February 2011 20:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Fricking hell, winger Chang troy are comic gold. So amazingly good.

Some BNL defenders are actually pretty vociferous (I've been screamed at at least once for talking smack about them). There's probably a reason or two why, but I hate that band so fucking much I refuse to ponder said reasons.

I wouldn't think that Tragically Hip defense would take up much time, as they seem so bland and unassuming that they wouldn't really even rise to the level of a minor annoyance.

Chang walking in the apt and immediately smashing the lamp with nunchucks had me pausing the TV to wipe the tears from my face.

yeah that was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. my family didn't have immediate laughter like I did but maybe this kind of comedy is just too quick for them ;)

Clearly, you did not live in Ottawa in the 90s.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 13 February 2011 02:58 (thirteen years ago) link

No, but Canadian friends have told me they're massive stadium-fillers up there. In the US, maybe they could headline a 3000-seat theater. Maybe.

Son of Sisyphus of Reaganing (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 13 February 2011 03:14 (thirteen years ago) link

I think they did better than that in Buffalo and Detroit but, yeah, they probably wouldn't inspire passionate debates in Denver.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 13 February 2011 04:11 (thirteen years ago) link

Plus, none of the Tragically Hip's songs inspired annoying singalongs in the U.S. the way that "One Week" and "If I Had $1000000" did.

Hey guys Starburns co-wrote the claymation episode. And got started in an act with Andy Dick, which explains how he got drafted in.

# Birth Death Juxtaposition: As Pierce's mom narrates how life works, Abed can be seen helping a young couple give birth in the background. Considering his role in the show he probably sought the pregnant girl out for this very reason.

I don't know if we've posted this one yet, but it's an interview with Dan Harmon from December. Goes inot the animated special, why each character got chosen for the shape they did, his thoughts on concept eps, why the zombie ep went a bit too far, etc

I assumed it was big bang theory dig because BNL does the theme for that.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 14 February 2011 13:29 (thirteen years ago) link

ok that's epic. i just thought it was a random-ass reference for yucks (i.e. "Do people really leap to defend BNL?" NOT THE JOKE) but that's great.

(though people with unbelievably shit theme tunes shouldn't throw stones.)

At this point, I'm pretty sure the theme song for Community is crappy on purpose.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 14 February 2011 13:43 (thirteen years ago) link

at this point it's just so unnecessary to even have a theme song

idgi fridays (blueski), Monday, 14 February 2011 13:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Mordy, Monday, 14 February 2011 15:21 (thirteen years ago) link

The BNL thing was the same trick as the calzone joke on Parks, but with opposite roles between the group and the individual.

Well I missed a good chunk of the third act, but that was pretty awesome.

weird ep. i'm not sure if i liked it or not (tho it was chockfull of great moments i'm not sure it really came together) but good news i'm going to watch it half a dozen more times this weekend to help decide

Mordy, Friday, 18 February 2011 01:45 (thirteen years ago) link

I declared it a winner the first time I saw Troy in paralysis. If it had just one more scene of that (and it had like four), it would be the best of the season.

i think i expected more from the pierce-is-an-ass arc conclusion, tho maybe it's not over and they still have more to go

Mordy, Friday, 18 February 2011 01:54 (thirteen years ago) link

i dont think anyone in this thread agrees with me but i could really go for an episode that doesnt have a wacky framing device
