Definitely worth trying the proxy route unless there's a chance you can get permabanned if they catch you. It's a really dumb system, though (unless you're in the UK where none of it is ever blacked out, but I doubt I'm their average customer!).

anyone use the mlb at bat app?
― Get me two meatball sandwiches Utah! TWO! (thebingo), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 13:37 (thirteen years ago) link
Yep. What do you want to know? I'm loving how I can watch proper, full MLB games on it with my mlb.tv subscription (apols for sounding like an ad)
― Mark C, Monday, 4 April 2011 15:52 (twelve years ago) link
also, I believe mlb.tv is free thru April
― your generation appalls me (Dr Morbius), Monday, 4 April 2011 15:57 (twelve years ago) link
I tried to use mlb.tv but it doesn't seem to be free. Any of you manage to get it to work without paying for it?
― reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Monday, 4 April 2011 18:46 (twelve years ago) link
You get it free when you purchase the At Bat app, I understand.
― Mark C, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:53 (twelve years ago) link
mmm not really. you can't use the PS3 MLB app, for instance. and you can't watch it on your computer. if you buy the app you can watch games on the app and that's it. (but there's nothing stopping you from outputting your iphone to your TV...)
what burns me up is that i pay full freight for MLB.tv and then have to pay for the app on top of it! come on, i've ponied up a hundred bucks, i should get the app for free.
― 40% chill and 100% negative (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:16 (twelve years ago) link
I don't know about the promotion, but generally you have to pay for mlb.tv to get it to work on at bat.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:18 (twelve years ago) link
o i c
i've never had one without the other
― 40% chill and 100% negative (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:33 (twelve years ago) link
so i should probably shut up
it's so ridiculous that there's no non-tv option for watching games. i subscribe to mlb.tv but have to watch mets/phillies games on mp2p or whatever when they show on SNY
― Mordy, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:40 (twelve years ago) link
Wow, the new Gameday is crazy!
― reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 22:39 (twelve years ago) link
i have always wondered how to record these Giants games automatically on my DirecTV DVR. found this tip on-line tonight:
If you do a smart search and key in AALL HDTV GIANTS CCHAN 696 then press the red button to do the keyword search and choose Show Types and then Events, it should catch only the Giants live games on CSN BAY AREA. If you do an autorecord, you can specify extra time to add to the end of the recording.
just add your team along with that regional local broadcast number, don't think this will work with those random 720+ MLB Extra Innings channel numbers.
― Bee OK, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 03:49 (twelve years ago) link
with MLB.tv on ps3 all games are archived and can be watched from any inning... just sayin
― 40% chill and 100% negative (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 7 April 2011 01:12 (twelve years ago) link
^isn't this the case with mlb.tv on any old computer?
Sorry, I didn't notice that the EI 'free April' thing was tied to At Bat etc.

i just got my renewal notice from DirecTV for the 2012 season:
You are all set to enjoy another exciting season of MLB EXTRA INNINGS. We are renewing you at the lowest price of 6 payments of $34.99/month...
total price for this year is 209.94 an increase of $6.
will tell you how it goes when i call DirecTV and try to get a discount.
― Bee OK, Sunday, 19 February 2012 05:27 (twelve years ago) link
I got an email to 'renew' my MLB.TV package -- I only got the postseason last year -- for $99, which I guess i'm going to do.

― Steamtable Willie (WmC), Sunday, 19 February 2012 13:40 (twelve years ago) link
yes. In both cases, I don't particularly care.
― Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 19 February 2012 13:51 (twelve years ago) link

that's pretty standard practice for streaming sports online, tbf
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 19 February 2012 15:48 (twelve years ago) link
it's much worse imo that they blackout every fox saturday afternoon game except the one being showed in your market
i've never streamed online. good to know

can't get anything right now on mlb.tv, anyone else? I'm logged in and evrything.

― Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 10 March 2012 20:30 (twelve years ago) link
I think I got auto-renewed for Gameday Audio -- I fucking hate opt-outs that should be opt-ins.

same thing today, the video doesn't come on, not even the archives I was able to watch (w/ constant freezing) a few days ago.

so i finally called into DirecTV to see if i can get a discount on MLB Extra Innings for this year. they gave me $10 off per month for six months again this year. i will be paying $150 for it this year.
happy happy joy joy

after all the warnings everyone gave me last year about mlb.tv being sneaky about auto-renewing you without asking...it didn't auto-renew me. which means i missed out on the $20 discount so maybe it's even sneakier than i thought.

was thinking about holding off this year but the ability to watch games on my phone is pretty enticing

What is it?
― improvised explosive advice (WmC), Thursday, 5 April 2012 02:44 (eleven years ago) link
Strike Zone existed years ago, but not during the last couple seasons...right?
― Andy K, Thursday, 5 April 2012 02:49 (eleven years ago) link
seems like nfl redzone right?
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 5 April 2012 02:50 (eleven years ago) link
it's MLB version of the Red Zone Channel, live look into games where there is something happening. DirecTV had this back in 2007 and 2008 (iirc) and was dropped when MLB Network came on the air.
there is a rumor that DirecTV will add it this year as well.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 5 April 2012 02:51 (eleven years ago) link
I looked for Strike Zone but didn't find it, but did find this:
http://www.federalbaseball.com/2012/4/5/2927330/introducing-full-count-from-yahoo-sports-and-mlb-com
Did anyone use this yesterday?
― polyphonic, Monday, 9 April 2012 17:17 (eleven years ago) link
Strike Zone, when it existed a few years ago, seemed redundant. You can already see most/all of the games on the EI home channel and click into them -- you don't need an anchor or whatever to tell you what is happening.
― Andy K, Monday, 9 April 2012 17:22 (eleven years ago) link
What is the EI home channel?
― polyphonic, Monday, 9 April 2012 17:32 (eleven years ago) link
Extra Innings has a "home channel" where the screen is split into eight telecasts. The default audio comes from the top-left telecast, but you can move around to hear the other telecasts and select a channel/game from there.
