also, the only other cable I watch is pretty much the news (plenty of that online) and Stewart/Colbert sometimes (same).

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 16:19 (nine years ago) link

yeah there's a map somewhere showing the blackout regions - iirc if you live in iowa, every midwest team is blacked out, ridiculous

ciderpress, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 16:21 (nine years ago) link

and yeah xxxp mlb.tv supports simultaneous logins as of last year, but that's something they could fix any time (and i wouldn't be surprised if they did) so i'm a bit uneasy about pooling with people

they're less likely to fix the proxy trick since they're not the ones losing out from that

ciderpress, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 16:27 (nine years ago) link

I've been using simultaneous logins on MLB.TV for like 6 years

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 16:28 (nine years ago) link

The Braves (2 states, a 5 hr drive and a time zone away) are blacked out for me -- makes me want to spit acid in Bud's eyes.

Groovy Goulet (pixel farmer), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 16:31 (nine years ago) link

They used to use the address of the credit card that paid for it to determine whether a game was blacked out; I guess that's changed if proxies work?

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 16:54 (nine years ago) link

they use the IP that you log in with (so you can login with a web proxy and then switch back to your real connection to watch)

ciderpress, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 16:57 (nine years ago) link

Definitely worth trying the proxy route unless there's a chance you can get permabanned if they catch you. It's a really dumb system, though (unless you're in the UK where none of it is ever blacked out, but I doubt I'm their average customer!).

MLB Extra Innings Giving Fans 11-Day Free Preview

By Marcus Vanderberg on March 28, 2011 6:02 PM

Thanks to Opening Day starting earlier this year, baseball fans will get an 11-day free preview of MLB Extra Innings from March 31-April 10 on iN DEMAND.

The cable package retails for $179 if purchased before April 11 and $199 if ordered after that date.

Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Bright House Networks, Cablevision Systems, Bresnan Communications, Charter Communications, Midcontinent, and many independent affiliates are the cable providers offering MLB Extra Innings.

There are two new features to this year’s package:

DUAL FEEDS: iN DEMAND will deliver both the home and visiting team broadcasts of the same game whenever possible, so that fans can choose which telecast they want to watch.

MULTI-SCREEN MOSAIC: Preview which game to watch with this popular rotating mosaic of multiple screens that shows all the live action from games being played at the time, along with scores, inning and channel location. Find this on the first channel of the system’s package lineup.

anyone use the mlb at bat app?

Get me two meatball sandwiches Utah! TWO! (thebingo), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 13:37 (nine years ago) link

Yep. What do you want to know? I'm loving how I can watch proper, full MLB games on it with my mlb.tv subscription (apols for sounding like an ad)

Mark C, Monday, 4 April 2011 15:52 (nine years ago) link

also, I believe mlb.tv is free thru April

your generation appalls me (Dr Morbius), Monday, 4 April 2011 15:57 (nine years ago) link

I tried to use mlb.tv but it doesn't seem to be free. Any of you manage to get it to work without paying for it?

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Monday, 4 April 2011 18:46 (nine years ago) link

You get it free when you purchase the At Bat app, I understand.

Mark C, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:53 (nine years ago) link

mmm not really. you can't use the PS3 MLB app, for instance. and you can't watch it on your computer. if you buy the app you can watch games on the app and that's it. (but there's nothing stopping you from outputting your iphone to your TV...)

what burns me up is that i pay full freight for MLB.tv and then have to pay for the app on top of it! come on, i've ponied up a hundred bucks, i should get the app for free.

I don't know about the promotion, but generally you have to pay for mlb.tv to get it to work on at bat.

Mordy, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:18 (nine years ago) link

o i c

i've never had one without the other

40% chill and 100% negative (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:33 (nine years ago) link

so i should probably shut up

40% chill and 100% negative (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:33 (nine years ago) link

it's so ridiculous that there's no non-tv option for watching games. i subscribe to mlb.tv but have to watch mets/phillies games on mp2p or whatever when they show on SNY

Mordy, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:40 (nine years ago) link

Wow, the new Gameday is crazy!

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 22:39 (nine years ago) link

i have always wondered how to record these Giants games automatically on my DirecTV DVR. found this tip on-line tonight:

If you do a smart search and key in AALL HDTV GIANTS CCHAN 696 then press the red button to do the keyword search and choose Show Types and then Events, it should catch only the Giants live games on CSN BAY AREA. If you do an autorecord, you can specify extra time to add to the end of the recording.

just add your team along with that regional local broadcast number, don't think this will work with those random 720+ MLB Extra Innings channel numbers.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 03:49 (nine years ago) link

with MLB.tv on ps3 all games are archived and can be watched from any inning... just sayin

^isn't this the case with mlb.tv on any old computer?

Sorry, I didn't notice that the EI 'free April' thing was tied to At Bat etc.

ten months pass...

i just got my renewal notice from DirecTV for the 2012 season:

You are all set to enjoy another exciting season of MLB EXTRA INNINGS. We are renewing you at the lowest price of 6 payments of $34.99/month...

total price for this year is 209.94 an increase of $6.

will tell you how it goes when i call DirecTV and try to get a discount.

Bee OK, Sunday, 19 February 2012 05:27 (eight years ago) link

I got an email to 'renew' my MLB.TV package -- I only got the postseason last year -- for $99, which I guess i'm going to do.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 19 February 2012 13:36 (eight years ago) link

Would NYM/NYY games be blacked out for you?

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Sunday, 19 February 2012 13:40 (eight years ago) link

yes. In both cases, I don't particularly care.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 19 February 2012 13:51 (eight years ago) link

it's pretty worth the money imo

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 19 February 2012 14:36 (eight years ago) link

mlb.tv blackouts your local market? sucks

van smack, Sunday, 19 February 2012 15:47 (eight years ago) link

that's pretty standard practice for streaming sports online, tbf

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 19 February 2012 15:48 (eight years ago) link

it's much worse imo that they blackout every fox saturday afternoon game except the one being showed in your market

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 19 February 2012 15:48 (eight years ago) link

i've never streamed online. good to know

van smack, Sunday, 19 February 2012 15:49 (eight years ago) link

two weeks pass...

can't get anything right now on mlb.tv, anyone else? I'm logged in and evrything.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 10 March 2012 20:19 (eight years ago) link

getting the GameDay audio but not the TV

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 10 March 2012 20:30 (eight years ago) link

I think I got auto-renewed for Gameday Audio -- I fucking hate opt-outs that should be opt-ins.

Carlos Pollomar (WmC), Saturday, 10 March 2012 20:37 (eight years ago) link

same thing today, the video doesn't come on, not even the archives I was able to watch (w/ constant freezing) a few days ago.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 11 March 2012 18:14 (eight years ago) link

three weeks pass...

so i finally called into DirecTV to see if i can get a discount on MLB Extra Innings for this year. they gave me $10 off per month for six months again this year. i will be paying $150 for it this year.

happy happy joy joy

b-b-but MLB.TV costs less..

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 09:53 (eight years ago) link

and I finally got the right downloads to make it work.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 11:28 (eight years ago) link

hooked my dad up with the plumbing necessary to watch MLB.tv on his ipad and he is now approximately as happy as a pig in shit

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 11:38 (eight years ago) link

both this and NBA League Pass are the most incredible things. if I was born fifteen years later and recieved this for my birthday I'd probably cry

after all the warnings everyone gave me last year about mlb.tv being sneaky about auto-renewing you without asking...it didn't auto-renew me. which means i missed out on the $20 discount so maybe it's even sneakier than i thought.

ciderpress, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 14:03 (eight years ago) link

was thinking about holding off this year but the ability to watch games on my phone is pretty enticing

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 3 April 2012 14:04 (eight years ago) link

TH, get your dad to join SABR. (I've given up on Generation Debt recruitment.)

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 14:13 (eight years ago) link

he's like mr anti-sabr but we have a mutual friend who is i think a member. should i start the red sox 2012 thread and post his predix?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 14:43 (eight years ago) link

it is done

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 14:54 (eight years ago) link

haha, does he like Jon Heyman? (also, fact: some SABR members hate sabermetrics)

There is a UK chapter btw.
