Went to a local live talk show and saw Tavi get interviewed. Girl's got it together. Hadn't heard about the magazine beforehand, but I think it's a shrewd move for her: she presumably gets to maintain her voice and aesthetic while pulling the focus away slightly from her and the attendant novelty of her age.

NEWSFLASH! Scott Schuman aka The Sartorialist is an arrogant fuckstick! Also, he does not think much of Tavi:
Mr. Schuman, nowadays teenage bloggers like Tavi Gavinson are getting flown around the world to sit on the front rows of fashion shows in order to write about them. Isn’t that getting a little absurd?Well I don’t think her audience is that big. I think her success is a little bit of a conspiracy by established print media that wanted to show that this blog thing is not that important, that it’s done by a bunch of twelve year olds. But a lot of us are serious grown-ups. I think it’s great that Tavi can create a blog and write for other people that are like-minded – probably other kids around her age – but I don’t know how that is going to help a 26-year old, if she has never had a boyfriend or any of that kind of stuff. She’s just a kid, so she can talk about art and stuff only in an abstract way.Do you think she is going to last? She might grow into that position, but to me it is like a five-year old Michael Jackson singing about love – to him they are just words. It is just an abstract concept. One of the other problems of many blogs like Tavi’s is that they are people who write about fashion, but in order to have a visual element they steal pictures from other people.

i stopped reading his blog a year or two ago because of the attitude and also, i don't think i much care for his taste.
garance is really good though, he's right about that.
he makes some good points about the business side as well, actually. but i don't understand, given that his most visible project is his website, why it sat in a generic blogger template with no design work done whatsoever from day 1 of his blog to only a few months ago? and some of his photos aren't loading due to some technical issue? you would think a better website would be worth the investment.

I GOT HAIR STYLING TIPS FROM A 15 Y/O
I found out there was a Rookie reader meetup today about an hour before it happened, so I joined about 25 or so insufferably precious oversized-sunglassed/tiara'd/flower-dress-wearing high school age girls and hung out/talked life/made crafts with Tavi Gevinson in Rittenhouse Square today. It was, after the first 15 or so minutes, actually a lot more fun than it sounds and we got to talk about Heathers and feminism and personal identity! Also there was a super lolworthy moment when this group of girls noticed the orange-and-covered-with-plastic-flowers bike that belonged to this girlI came with and at least 10 girls started squealing and whipped out their iPhones all "omg that is SOOOO CUUUUTE I have to Instagram that RIGHT. NOW!!!!!"
But for real, Tavi is super chill and intelligent and likable and there is p much 0 reason to hate on this girl.

i love what she wrote on her old blog for its 5 year anniversary. bless her heart. it makes me wish i had been at all self-aware at her age. all the stuff about trying to document every moment and experiencing real anxiety about it - i wonder how common that is among teen girls. pretty common i'd guess, at least among a certain set
