I really like that cover picture. Reminds me of young adult fiction books for horse fan girls. And I love how there's a horse for each element in the pic: plant horse, water horse, air horse... Though it should have a sand horse too to make it complete. (Unless the real horse walking in the sand counts as "sand horse"?)

SOme of that artist's other work is pretty O_O, don't want to sully this thread with it though. Apparently he did some cover art for Prince too, but I can't quite figure out what.

Well, at least we now know the name of that piece is "Seven Horses," so we just have to find them all.

I've only got five, so I'm assuming that the last two were drowned.

I checked and the Prince thing turns out to be this:

^ original cover art for Around The World In A Day btw

seminal fuiud (NickB), Monday, 31 January 2011 09:52 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh wow, I'm not sure if that's actually better or horribly worse than the picture they ended up using for ATWIAD.

Tuomas, Monday, 31 January 2011 09:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Also, the actual album cover has pretty much all the same elements as Warren's version (which makes sense, since they images are based on the song titles and lyrics), but the bearded man hugging a tiger is missing. I wonder what happened with that?

Tuomas, Monday, 31 January 2011 10:01 (thirteen years ago) link

any great artwork prince ever had was by accident, wasn't it?

sammy bagels (a hoy hoy), Monday, 31 January 2011 10:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Is the tiger hugglez from one of the songs on the album?

seminal fuiud (NickB), Monday, 31 January 2011 10:07 (thirteen years ago) link

my old roommate had the last trail of dead album & the artwork was really cool -- singer drew it by hand & it flowed all the way throughout the booklet iirc

the new one is weezer style trolling of course

Yeah I wasn't too impressed w/ that album overall but I think that's one of their, uh, better covers.

doing it all with a blue biro was unfortunate tho

Reminiscent of Mansun's Six, that whole sorceror's apprentice vibe.

Love the Tim Hecker sleeve, really draws me in. Someone's put up a video montagey thing for 'The Piano Drop' on the YouTube which utilises similar (same source?) imagery.

Here's the real Panda Bear cover.

Not all that different from the Trail of Dead cover, actually.

Unlike that Trail of Dead cover, though, that's something I would probably at least pick up and look at if I browsing through old records in the store.
