That's pretty classic.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:47 (thirteen years ago) link

that...was fantastic. Kinane is great. dying over "Southside Ewok"

VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 30 January 2011 00:51 (thirteen years ago) link

lol im pretty sure ive heard "put some rims on ur optometrist" before but didnt know where it was from

johnny crunch, Sunday, 30 January 2011 03:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I love El Chupacabra but dislike all his other stuff.

polyphonic, Sunday, 30 January 2011 03:27 (thirteen years ago) link

i think kroll is hilarious -- fabrice fabrice is whatever but bobby bottleservice is hilarious

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:17 (thirteen years ago) link

it's too bad he's on 'the league' tho -- what a piece of shit that it is

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:17 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah it really is pretty u_u

VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Another Kroll hater over here.

Jouster, Sunday, 30 January 2011 06:16 (thirteen years ago) link

dunno much Kroll but Bobby Bottleservice is lol

basically just a 2/47 freak out (sic), Sunday, 30 January 2011 11:52 (thirteen years ago) link

ugh "Bobby Bottleservice" -- are you guys secretly Jamie Kennedy fans too?

Jon Lajoie is still the worst guy on The League, though, that guy is straight out of YouTube rap parody hell

some dude, Sunday, 30 January 2011 13:00 (thirteen years ago) link

I enjoyed El Chupacabra on a live multi-performer CDR but the character is a bit too me-no-rikey for me to totally relax into; BB stays just this side of the line - the pleasure comes from hearing him stay in pace, not merely improvving and reacting and feeding the scene in character, but managing to keep making discretely funny malaprops of what "BB" means to be saying at the same time

basically just a 2/47 freak out (sic), Sunday, 30 January 2011 13:25 (thirteen years ago) link

I saw a little bit of that countdown yesterday. Ryan Stout made me laugh pretty hard.

that's not funny. (unperson), Sunday, 30 January 2011 17:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Nick Kroll's hour was not bas at all, especially when he wasn't in character.

polyphonic, Sunday, 30 January 2011 18:15 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i don't have much of a problem w/ him in normal standup mode

some dude, Sunday, 30 January 2011 20:26 (thirteen years ago) link

"not bad" is what I was trying to type there, of course.

polyphonic, Sunday, 30 January 2011 20:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Here's my friend April, who's still kind of a n00b at stand-up, but is getting better.

I wish she had a dedicated youtube channel instead of having bits and pieces scattered all over, but whatever.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 February 2011 01:03 (thirteen years ago) link

tbh too many standups are way too slick with online stuff now, if she's just starting out it's probably better that she let people who like her stuff upload it than just plaster youtube with dozens of her own videos.

hercudeez and nuts affair (some dude), Friday, 4 February 2011 01:11 (thirteen years ago) link

how long has she been performing? i feel like she had been performing for a while but maybe it's just because i see her around a lot

jeff, Friday, 4 February 2011 01:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I think she did her first open mic right at the end of 2008.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 February 2011 01:31 (thirteen years ago) link

So, just a smidge over two years.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 February 2011 01:32 (thirteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...

Watching Patrice O'Neal's thing on Comedy Central right now. A+

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 20 February 2011 03:29 (thirteen years ago) link

^^wish i'd seen this

eddie griffin's special is on right now & he's... not a very good stand up

teenage cream (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 February 2011 06:43 (thirteen years ago) link

he also has really awful opinions about everything

teenage cream (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 February 2011 06:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Saw some of an old Daniel Tosh standup special on CC about 2-3 months ago and was surprised how funny I found it ("No, I don't want to smoke a bowl; I'm not 17, I have things to do. Grow up and do coke"). Didn't really catch any racist stuff there or on the clip show, but I don't see it much. He just seems to be doing for gay-seeming, fuckable blond dudes what Sarah Silverman did for JAPs.

I saw Eugene Mirman twice last year; much funnier than he was 5-10 years ago, I think.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 20 February 2011 16:51 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, Eugene has finally stumbled across what he does best. Not sure what that is, but he's funnier now.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 20 February 2011 19:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Eugene was on Colbert Monday night as a medical clown.

It is not 2011, but Paul F. Tompkins' "Impersonal" album is killing me lately.

curation and dilletantage (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 09:52 (thirteen years ago) link

ok listening to "impersonal" now and it is pretty fuckin good

"elegant balloons"

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 11:35 (thirteen years ago) link

Ha! I also like the picking cherries one and the peanut brittle one; both painfully drawn out, really, but I dig it.

curation and dilletantage (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 13:34 (thirteen years ago) link

I kinda like Todd Glass

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 25 February 2011 16:35 (thirteen years ago) link

He goes too fast though

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 25 February 2011 16:42 (thirteen years ago) link

RIP Mike DeStefano, dude was totally the funniest on the last season of Last Comic Standing and shoulda won

TIGER BLOOD aka the sheendriver (some dude), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 02:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Some mention of it earlier in the day on the podcast thread. I'd never heard him before (recognized the name only), but his interview with Maron was solid.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 02:44 (thirteen years ago) link

he had a very familiar tough guy New York comic exterior but his actual material was pretty dry and clever

TIGER BLOOD aka the sheendriver (some dude), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 02:46 (thirteen years ago) link

how do wee feel about doug stanhope?

open jason segal (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 03:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Used to be I couldn't stand him. Now I don't even think about him anymore (like the rest of all people everywhere).

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 03:41 (thirteen years ago) link

i saw destefano on a thing comedy central was showing that was like a comedy show for addicts? i think. i thought he was aight. RIP anyway, sounds like a fucked up story

little humma boy (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 03:42 (thirteen years ago) link

never been impressed what little of stanhope's comedy i've seen but i enjoyed his online rant about people who teach standup comedy, seems like a good writer

TIGER BLOOD aka the sheendriver (some dude), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 03:45 (thirteen years ago) link

has nothing to do w/ 2011 but i dl'ed jimmy pardo's pompous clown off itunes after patton raved abt it on a podcast & it's hysterical. is more or less entirely crowd work in pardo's kinda rickles-lite style

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 03:48 (thirteen years ago) link

I love Doug Stanhope. Kind of a poor man's Hicks I guess.

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 04:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Not a Hicks fan either, so my Stanhope dislike makes sense in that respect.

http://www.deadline.com/2011/03/comedy-central-developing-evil-genius-comedy-starring-paul-f-tompkins/

omedy Central has put in development Evil Genius, a high-concept scripted comedy starring actor-comedian Paul F. Tompkins. The show, which Tompkins will write with Tom Scharpling (Monk), stars Tompkins as Professor Tiberius Lynch, an evil genius who has successfully taken over the world, achieving global domination. The only problem is -- what should he do next? Being a genius doesn't make it easier to navigate the everyday situations of office life, especially when that office is responsible for running absolutely everything on Earth. Lynch must contend with the quirks and foibles of his cohorts as well as the demands of the entire population of the planet, trying to pull off the ultimate balancing act.

Tompkins and Scharpling are executive producing Evil Genius with Avalon Television's David Martin, John Thoday and Richard Allen Turner. Tompkins, repped by CAA and Avalon Management, hosted VH1's Best Week Ever. Scharpling is with Rothman Brecher.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 March 2011 16:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Doug Stanhope was horrible when he and Joe Rogan took over the Man Show, but I don't think anybody could have saved that.

His appearances on Newswipe last year were quite good, tho.

Crazed Mister Handy (kingfish), Friday, 11 March 2011 17:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Tompkins is brilliant imo -- up there with Patton Oswalt as one of the few comics working today who just seems like a wordsmith who could've done something interesting in any number of formats if he hadn't gone into standup

needless to say v excited about this new PFT series

some dude, Friday, 11 March 2011 17:02 (thirteen years ago) link

i seriously fucking hate when ppl add visuals to stand-up bits. makes it immediately less funny

gawka flocka flamewar (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 11 March 2011 20:23 (thirteen years ago) link

Crazed Mister Handy (kingfish), Thursday, 17 March 2011 07:20 (thirteen years ago) link

If you go, throw a rotten egg at Andy Dick.
