I went to that new taco place in Wburg that they wrote about in the Times. La Superior

pork torta was the bommmmmb

tacos are cheap and pretty good but v. small (if I was making a meal outta just tacos there I'd need four or five)

everything there was really small. also had really bad servrice. hecho en dumbo is pretty similar and superior (haha).

i didn't have a torta though.

i really liked la superior.

portions aren't enormous, although we didn't have a problem with the sizes considering that prices were pretty low. we ate a ton for about $40 incl tax/tip.

that's true, things were priced pretty reasonably. nothing was very memorable for me, taste-wise.

i don't think i'd go out of my way for it, but i'm very happy to have it fairly close by - especially for brunch.

torta was almost like pork stew meets a sandwich .... shredded pork on bread but served in a bowl (cause the bread gets all mushy)

taco lengua was pretty good too I thought

they were on my radar for the bourbon but apparently the food's pretty good too

the fish tacos were our favorite, i think... they were topped with a pickled onion kind of thing that was so tasty. the flautas were also great, which surprised me because i have bad chi-chi's associations with flautas, but the green sauce served with them is fantastic.

I wish there was a good restaurant site, especially if it were iPhone friendly, where I could keep track of all the places I want to eat by neighborhood and by city. Are there any?

o, a torta ahogada? excited cause i am going to guadalajara where they are a speciality.

xp - gayot, maybe. it seems to have some biases to adjust for (in favor of clubby/douchey-upscale/French places?), but seems a useful aid for making marginal distinctions between top-rated restaurants

where should i eat while home? looking for something newish and pretty moderately priced (entrees under $20). and interesting. i've been eating lots of mexican and thai lately, so... not that.

has anyone been to aurora in williamsburg? i went to the soho outpost and liked it... had some kind of venison in chestnut puree with bacon lardons that was v v good

all i remember are the early reviews, which were pretty mixed. combine that with the (relatively high) prices and the big nightclubby space, and it's not a place i'm particularly interested in. don't mean to sound too negative, but those are my initial thoughts.

it does seem slightly tacky but the menu looks good and the prices on a lot of the stuff doesn't seem bad at all.

anyway i'm lebanese i have to go and indulge my slightly tacky proclivities ;)

ha. i just have the fear where those huge, bar-centric places in flatiron/murray hill are concerned. any other lebanese places you'd recommend?

As far as more mom-and-pop-style Lebanese, I really like Waterfalls Cafe on Atlantic Ave, and have also heard good things about Zaytouns.

waterfalls is good. zaytoons was a favorite when i lived in boerum hill, but it's been years since i've eaten there.

i need to try both

i think i got the same exact thing every time i ate at zaytoons: lentil soup (it's the lemony, pureed kind) and a spinach pie, no cheese.

i have to tell you tho, a spinach pie with a little cheese that stretches and pulls with the dough...!!

yeah, agreed on the cheese. i was vegan for a while though.

man, those spinach pies are good. they're big, calzone-style ones, baked in delicious homemade pitas.

i love calzone style! i think that's a close approximation of heaven, one of those with soup

i grew up with the small triangle spinach pies but i was a quick convert to calzone

they both have their merits. damascus bakery on atl ave is good for buying bags of the little triangle guys.

they also have pistachio baklava.

zaytoons has made me ill many, many times, but i still eat there because they deliver late.

wasn't someone else saying that about the pros hts location, too? that branch sounds like it has problems. i never had any issues with the original one (never ate meat there, though).

so the place i was talking is actually Palestinian in Sunset Park (i know, how accurate am i). it's called Tanoreen and i've had the food delivery once OMG.

oh, that place! it's in bay ridge, i think? it's supposed to be wonderful. we almost went there for lunch on sunday, but went for mexican in sunset park instead.

btw, lunch in sunset park ruled. went to la guera (aka ricos tamales) and had the most amazing soup (barbacoa) in addition to some great tamales and tacos .
