i'm talking about IE6 on windows, there is no IE6 for mac

I meant that OS X has a similar UI philosophy with regard to transparency and clickability.

wait are you talking about a button using a transparent png for background? you could try styling the anchor tag with a height and width and position:relative http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=530067

no, it's just a normal image in HTML, surrounded by an anchor tag. thanks for the good idea though!
