Maybe I - dread the thought - actually agree therefore with The Buggles on Video killed the Radio Star. 4) Which artist is better, Sufjan Stevens - his music is soft and subtle and his voice is one of those voices that makes you feel all floaty. he looks rather floaty too and i like that as his music makes me feel like floating and riding with the wind of winter, and too expand on that which is already known, I find his musical style experimental, yet derivative of such artists as bjork or tori amos. I originally posted this application and mentioned I'd like to purchase his album, when I had enough money. His songs, especially sister winter was what grabbed me, rather than deerhoof, as they were a little too experimental for me and i already have st etienne as my experimental love. I trust that this amendment to my lost application by your Australian office will suffice for my reposted application, which posted surfjan stevens unfinished....

5) How many invites do you require? just one , please.

I see you have already begun to take advantage of our wonderful music sharing service by dowloading the Bright Eyes Box Set. Be sure to check out many of his live recording that we have available.

I just grabbed the 9/14/97 surprise show in San Diego -- IMPECCABLE!! You can truly feel where Conor's heart is on that night -- as well as the tension in the crisp autumn air!!

You know I've told all my friends that I have it -- and I'm DEFINITELY NOT SHARING. LOLOLOLOLLOL:):):):)

The sting of this rejection continues to eat away at the discarded candy-wrapper I call my heart.

So, curse you!, administrators of prank file-sharing site! Curse you for belonging to the vast and largely unfriendly Societey of the Anti-Me. Curse you and all your knock-kneed generations with the rending of garments and the gnashing of unbrushed teeth. Off-brand cosmetics in your nostrils and, forevermore, the taste of ashes in your mouths.

Etc.

1) Name three shared albums (+192kbps only) that others have successfully downloaded from you in the past week :
1. Sufjan Stevens - A Sun Came 2. Hole - Pretty please ( bootleg) ....one of the best i have of them !
3. Plastikman - Nostalgik 1

2) What is rockism? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum) .

Rockism is the desire to return to the basics.
The holy trinity of guitar, drums and bass re-asserting itself at the heart of the music and its creators. A prime example would be the Stooges and in particular Iggy pop's atavistic approach to both performance and recording and life. Living the music, if you will, and the desire for authenticity. No bs approach typifies this. Female bands like Hole and L7 re-defined the male stranglehold on such things....Grrrll power asserted itself and let it be known that this was for all. Most bands when starting out had this ideal ....even early U2 were lauded for the stripped down clarity of their approach and sound. Invariably time moves on
and these band are no longer hungry or start to diversify..leaving true rock-ism behind for another generation. Not always the case but hence the search for the next new thing....with all the verve and excitement it promises.

4) Which artist is better, Sufjan Stevens or Deerhoof? Why? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)

Sufjan Stevens connects with me more emotionally when I feel like being reflective ...but on the whole
I'd have to say Deerhoof. Being a Hole fan also sways me towards them. Their approach is still fresh, none were trained/skilled musicians and they make decisions democratically. That has to influence the music and its intent. The foregoing of accepted song structure is exciting and challenging. Stevens is about lushness and orchestration ........Deerhoof just go for it ! Reminds me of the
original punk ideals of '76 - the spirit of '76. Satomi is waay more assured than earlier and it just feels like the whole thing is getting stronger - 'Friend Opportunity' is never far from the stereo. Gotta get all their other stuff now.

5) How many invites do you require? Just ONE. Though if I could have TWO ( one for a friend... that'd be even better., thanks)

2. rockism is a style of music journalism and general perception of popular music. i think steve coogan in tv series "saxondale" shows a perfect example of that kind of ... thinking about things. if you think pink floyd is the last great band in the world, you most likely are "rockist", y'know. or that after sex pistols there is no future for other bands. if you are a proper rockist you should know as well that any music that is created using computer is no music whatsoever. it's synthetic crap. in other words - the beatles was the last real rockband.
3. i don't like cat power, so i don't have favorite cat power picture.
4. deerhoof. because I'm just not into stevens style of music. though I'm not into deerhoof either. but they at least make some noisy and improvised stuff (which I am quite into). and they have japanese girl. in fact i could better describe why I like black dice better than animal collective, because i know a bit more about them than about sufjan stevens or deerhoof.

2) What is rockism? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)
Rockism is the idea that some music is more authentic than others. It was formed in the late 1970's in the British music press. Usually artists that write and perform their own music are considered to be authentic under the ideology of Rockism. Rockism does not like the use of technology like computer based recording studios. It places the value and authenticity in the performance of the artist. A "pop" artist that extensivly uses software instruments and music would not be considered authentic because they are not playing their own music. Typically Rockism music uses the traditional instruments found in rock: guitars, basses, and drums, although other instruments can be used also. The most important factor is that the music is generated by the artist and not the recording engineer.

4) Which artist is better, Sufjan Stevens or Deerhoof? Why? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)
I perfer Deerhoof because it is Alternative Rock. As a musician (I play electric guitar, and bass) I can relate more to the alternative rock style of Deerhoof than the alternative folk style of Sufjan Stevens. Deerhoof's sound is unique with every song. They always sound original whether they're playing an up-tempo song or a slow ballad. Sufjan Steven's music is slow in contrast to Deerhoof's music. Deerhoof reminds me of one of my favorite bands The Mars Volta. They have an unpredictable sound that can change in the drop of a hat, and that is what makes a great musician. While Sufjan Steven is also a good musician and I like his music, I would choose Deerhoof over Steven anyday.

5) How many invites do you require?

2/ rockism is a self-defeating, formalist's reimagining of taste, a well-intentioned back-to-basics return to auteur authenticity that's mired in luddite-like nostalgia. like dozens of other movements within art and art-criticism (from pre-raphaelites to diy) it advocates an uncompromised truth to self as the basis for creating art, in its case, rock music. to rock, simply, one must rock their own way. it's a pretty simple doctrine by which music can be examined and something that enters a critique of every music. (Nobody likes to hear indulgent heart-on-sleeve lyrics-- when they come out false, that is.) from there, the problems with rockism just multiply, though. is an outside critic really properly situated to evaluate authenticity? and in a genre of music which openly embraces bombast, affectation and reinvention, what the hell is authentic anyway? I mean: David Bowie, Lou Reed, Sgt. Pepper's. three highschoolers or seniors tooling around in a garage may be rockistly perfect, but that's not going to ensure its place as "good rock music."
3/ http://www.tunetribe.com/assets/images/artists/artist_image_3992.bmp
4/ Well, is art for creation or for connection? that's what a Deerhoof v. Sufjan debate would come down to, I think, and for me at least it's connection. So Sufjan. I'd rather brave the bebop and saccharine knowing I'm going hear something that I actually relate to and enjoy-- and likely get sick of after a few listens-- than get mired in a marsh of impersonal, (relatively) pop-less technicality and instrumentation. But I will get sick of it. And then I will listen to Deerhoof. And it will, for a little while, sound a hundred times better.

2) What is rockism? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)

Rockism is a pure way of looking at music. What I mean by that is that rockism looks down on music created with synthesizers and programs. Music (in the eyes of rockism) is a pure form of self expression - it's all about the artist (usually both the writer and performer) and the listener. Rockism appreciates original music and believes that the time for "real music" has already passed - it was back in the 60s and 70s. For Rockists, that was the golden age of music, fueled by self expression and sincerity at a time when music was truly appreciated. That is rockism.

4) Which artist is better, Sufjan Stevens or Deerhoof? Why? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)

Sufjan Stevens for a few reasons. The first reason is that I don't have much familiarity with Deerhoof. That's pretty basic, and if there are huge fans on here, I apologize in advance. Going on though, I don't think I've seen a more extravagant performance at a concert than I did when I saw Sufjan. The costumes, the atmosphere - it was all great. I'm a big proponent of live music, and Sufjan puts on a great show. To me, that makes a great artist. Also, you've gotta admit that what he's doing is pretty ambitious - trying to put out an album for every single state. That's about it.

5) How many invites do you require?

1) Klaus Nomi - The Star Collection, Life Sex & Death - The Silent Majority, Nick Drake - Made to Love Magic (and that was just in the last few hours... this list could go on forever)

2) Rockism is a holier than thou sentiment expressed by those who know that some music is more real than other. The movement eschews pop music in favor of weighty stuff; stuff that matters. Because some music does matter more. Rockism is a great way to miss out on some good stuff, just because there's a synth somewhere. It gives more credence to, well, Credence than to Kylie. And there's some truth to that, but it's sad that you've never heard "Confide". What a great track. I digress.

A rockist would look through my own CD collection and be aghast at the horrors that abound in the form of cheesetastic pop, but would simultaneously be jealous of a number of the rarities of authenticity to be found.

There are days when I fully embrace rockism, yet last summer I drove 5 hours to see Tiffany perform in a gay dance club. Go figure.

3) Cat Power not looking a thing like Cat Power

4) I've been dreading getting to this question. How can I compare the two and find a reasonable explanation of why I would say one is the better artist? And even if I could, it's really just my silly little opinion isn't it? Some days I might say that Sufjan was was more likely to be on my playlist, and other days Deerhoof. Then there are days that both will be swirling around among the thousands of other possibilities, not to mention the days that I'm not in the mood for either.

In order to actually answer this question, I have to find some defining characteristic that will separate them and give one and edge over the other.

I'll go with Deerhoof. Why? Because Sufjan went and recorded that damned Christmas album. I fucking hate Christmas music. Yes, really. Far too many years working in a retail environment of one kind or another where I was forced to listen to it all over and over again. I don't care how different or how novel or how beautiful Sufjan's versions may be, I will never know. I just can't take it.

But ask me tomorrow, and the answer might be different. And honestly, I'd prefer The Geraldine Fibbers over either of them.

5) I only require the one, si'l vous plait.

1) Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance, Timbuktu - Oberoendeframkallande, The Roots - The Tipping Point

2) Rockism is elitism. The belief that different styles of music aren't equally valid or authentic. Mainly, that rock from the 60's is the pinnacle of human musical achievement and that we've just gone downhill from there. While that might be true in a way (ugh, top40 pop...) it's mostly just stupid and close minded. The prime example of rockism these days is when dumbasses say that hiphop and edm aren't real music genres. And well... when you smoke some good weed and put on a fat hip-hop beat, you know that's just wrong. The same goes when you're trippin and stomping to some nice trance. It doesn't really matter how and when the music was made, what really matters is how it sounds here and now and how it makes you feel.
Rockism should be avoided, because you never know what you might and might not like as long as you keep an open mind and keep listening to new stuff.

3) http://www.spin.com/galleries/2003/12/12/cat_power_2.jpg

4) Honestly, I don't really enjoy either of them all that much. They're both the kind of music that I might like in some sense without really wanting to listen to them very much. That's kinda interesting actually, because there isn't that much music I relate to in that way, at least that I can think of. I guess there's just simply better, more exciting stuff out there. But I guess if I had to choose I'd say Sufjan Stevens. Because I can actually imagine situations where I'd actually want to listen to him for an extended period of time. Like, when trying to sleep or something. Though I prefer something like Sofie Zelmani for that. Anyway, he has a nice voice. Satomi Matsuzaki's voice is original and different and all that, but sadly most of all it's just annoying.

5) Just one.

2. rokisms ir veids kādā daļa žurnālistu raksta par mūziku un liela daļa publikas uztver populāru mūziku. stīvs kūgans tv seriālā "saxondale" lieliski attēlo šāda veida domāšanu par
lietām, tai skaitā mūziku. teiksim, ja tev liekas ka pink floyd ir pēdējā jēdzīgā roka banda, tu droši vari saukt sevi par "rokistu". vai ka pēc sex pistols nav nākotnes citām bandām. ja tu esi kārtīgs rokists, tad tev ir jāzin, ka jebkura mūzika, kuras radīšanā izmantots dators, nav nekāda mūzika bet sintētisks mēsls. citiem vārdiem sakot - the beatles bija pēdējā "īstā" rokbanda.
3. man diezko nepatīk cat power, tāpēc man nav mīļākās cat power fotogrāfijas.

And no, I'm not fishing for more invites, one is enough for me.

If somebody else has used the invite that was intended for me, or is using the selected username I would very much like to know more about the situation! :(

How interesting, i thought i was helping with different suggestions. I wasn't aware that they were in direct 'competition' with Oink? Audionews is application specific while Magesy are purely Electronic (and dodgy electronic at that) . Though if they are the same then well i'll stick with them so i don't have to jump through hoops for a non existant email by some pimply 16 yr old with a power complex. Cheery Pie...
