@Johnny - haha, thought that too. of course everyone on my fb friend list is overreacting. I mean obv. the storm is severe and yea be careful and stuff but this used to be a typical summer day for me when I lived in Kissimmee.

we need u both for SB weekend, dont get drowned/blown away etc

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 00:36 (thirteen years ago) link

ehh this storm is underwhelming so far

emma goldbond (San Te), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 00:55 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, I'm frankly disappointed. I'm about to gong it.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 01:00 (thirteen years ago) link

watching my friends freak out like they've never lived in FL before tho has sure been entertaining.

I went to work once when there was a hurricane churning about 150 miles offshore (this was the first time I lived here, back in 1999 or 2000) and got quadruple pay.

A little weather doesn't usually faze me, but the news made tonight out to be some kind of climatological armageddon.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 01:05 (thirteen years ago) link

yea they must be bored. grantedi t's not usual for this kind of storm in January but in the summer it's par for the course.

I worked at Best Buy during the threefer hurricane season of Charlie/Frances/Jeanne. so naturally we were closed.

emma goldbond (San Te), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 01:07 (thirteen years ago) link

i am literally being made furious by the cutler bashing columns that are still going on, trying to use "new evidence" that he was seen limping up a flight of stairs as meaning he could have played or w/e. it's kinda like i wouldn't mind if people thought he had a shitty game and criticized him on those grounds, but this just seems so "lol u pussy" high school level shit.

omar little, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 01:16 (thirteen years ago) link

yea stuff like that is why I vowed never to post on a football related message board (other than this one) ever again.

emma goldbond (San Te), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 01:21 (thirteen years ago) link

Tony Reali, of all people, pointed out yesterday that the "Philip Rivers did it!" claims are bogus, as we went out and did NOT come back in during the game in which he was actually injured. He played (and lost to) the Patriots the following week.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 01:23 (thirteen years ago) link

we=he

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 01:23 (thirteen years ago) link

yep. he also threw two crucial picks in that game that he DID play. but Volek played most of that Colts game

emma goldbond (San Te), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 01:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I liked what Drew Brees had to say. he stated that he played with a torn MCL this year but then also said all injuries are different and we shouldn't judge players without these details.

emma goldbond (San Te), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 01:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Caleb Haine was on the Dan Patrick Show today and had nothing but good things to say about Cutler helping him with reads and that he was surprised that Cutler didn't play bc he is so competitive.

Haine seems like a cool guy, and apparently the porn stache was the last remnant of a playoff beard some of the guys had been cultivating, lol

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 01:33 (thirteen years ago) link

That was more like peach fuzz than porn stache.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 01:51 (thirteen years ago) link

it was more like a dirty sanchez

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 01:58 (thirteen years ago) link

I have to wonder how much is Aaron Rodgers success is that he got to sit for a couple of years before having to be the main QB. It's kind of a rare thing for many first round QBs now.

earlnash, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:05 (thirteen years ago) link

I think it's an interesting discussion. That versus Ben who goes straight in, no bench riding. And it can easily go haywire when you let someone ride the bench too long, maybe they don't have what you wanted after all, or you put someone in too soon and they can never meet expectations. It's a real alchemy, I find it really fascinating,

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:17 (thirteen years ago) link

Y'know, thinking about it, of the dudes who are thrown around commonly as the best QBs, I think Peyton and Roethlisberger are the only guys who get thrown around a lot in the Best QB discussion who started right away. Although Matt Ryan and Sam Bradford could be there in a while.

Rodgers had a bunch of years, Brees and Rivers and Brady all had a year or so, Vick played a little in his first year but wasn't the full-time starter until his 2nd year.

C-L, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Hasselbeck rode the bench too, right?

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:29 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah he (and Mark Brunell and Aaron Brooks) was the backup to Favre in GB until Seattle took him.

C-L, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:30 (thirteen years ago) link

I get fuzzy on the history sometimes.

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

I did have to look that up, though, which reminded me of Hasselbeck infamously said "We want the ball, and we’re gonna score!" During the second overtime possession for the Seahawks, Hasselbeck threw an interception to Packers defensive back Al Harris which was returned 52 yards for a touchdown. It gave Green Bay a 33-27 overtime victory

Haaaaaaaa

C-L, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

is it too cynical to say that the cream rises regardless? like, matt flynn has sat behind rodgers, and he doesn't strike me as anything beyond a marginal starter

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

same for chad henne

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

I was confused as to which Hasselbeck started where before the lesser Hasselbeck had to resign to a life of being the husband of that crazy lady from the View.

C-L, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:33 (thirteen years ago) link

Kurt Warner is the exception to most qb rules.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:34 (thirteen years ago) link

lol sportscenter just ran a whole segment on rodgers' touchdown celebration ^___________________________________^

Where did lesser Hasselbeck play?

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Giants, I know. I forget the others.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Wikipedia is a Hasselbeckian treat today! On Elizabeth Hasselbeck: Hasselbeck and The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg were discussing Senator Hillary Clinton's proposal that the U.S. Government provide a $5,000 savings bond for each child at birth. The conversation became heated when Hasselbeck stated it would lead to fewer abortions due to women wanting to keep the money.

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Riding bench vs playing also interesting wrt Sanchez...kind of feel like Jets hold him at cross purposes, like "get out there!" but "call home every 30 minutes so we know you're okay". Feel like the only way anyone is going to know for sure about him is if they loosen the reins on him, let him make his own mistakes. Bunt guess the league isn't like that anymore.

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:52 (thirteen years ago) link

Bunt? But I

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:53 (thirteen years ago) link

the australian open is currently on espn2 (tape delayed)

the scrolling ticker at the bottom of the screen is informing me that when the steelers & packers played in 2009, roffles was 6-for-7 using play-action and rogers was something-for-something when facing 5+ pass rushers

i mean, come on

Any good UFL prospects?

VegemiteGrrrl, Thursday, 27 January 2011 00:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Big B makes the same plays over and over again completely oblivious to the chaos surrounding him but still the loss of Pouncey Billups will have me betting on the Packers.
