1900s are a psych-pop band from Chicago. that cover is terrible.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 16:28 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe more baroque-pop?

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 16:29 (thirteen years ago) link

nah ilxor you are the tastemaker pitchfork follow. gonna do an awkward feature about hearing the jazz canon for the first time starting in november where jess harvell comes across a little 1950s equiv of lil-wayne-onion-cover-i-seemingly-can't-find-atm.jpg

really tho, just sayin there are pfork writers who read ilm & the timing is such that someone could've seen the img post 6 days ago, gone "hey those are great covers" and contacted/interviewed the guy in recent days

just sayin

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 17:13 (thirteen years ago) link

supply 'n d-man (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 17:14 (thirteen years ago) link

lol @ me ten years ago caring about that band.

OMG I love how awful that Trail of Dead cover is. I didn't think it was possible to sink below the cover with the dead-eyed CGI chick (So Divided), but they did. Well done. I actually still fuck with this band though, they have their moments.

just got this, horrible cover, somewhat decent album.

wow that trail of dead cover is unbelievable

i am transfixed i cannot look away

ciderpress, Friday, 28 January 2011 19:14 (thirteen years ago) link

It's like they're trying to market it specifically to blind people.

kkvgz, Friday, 28 January 2011 19:14 (thirteen years ago) link

The last Trail of Dead cover wasn't too offensive but WTF is this a Chronicles of Narnia concept album?

Evan, Friday, 28 January 2011 19:15 (thirteen years ago) link

i think i will be giving them another try in 2011 just in case that heralds their bounce back to top form with a steampunk fantasy concept album

I know I'm in an ever dwindling minority, but as I said earlier I still mess with AYWKUBTTOD, partially because how ridiculously OTT they are - in artwork, arrangements, even live. I saw them play like a 12:30 PM set at Lollapalooza the first year of its Chicago residency, and they played like they were in a dank club at two in the morning. Tore the shit out of their instruments (literally, towards the end of the set), spent half the time in the crowd (no small feat with the way the stage was set-up), and seemed to not give a fuck that they had a small crowd and a shitty time slot.

I like that Big Eagle thing. I don't like the band name or album title or the font though.

Slade Venom Secret Police (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 30 January 2011 06:14 (thirteen years ago) link

It looks like the best Muslimgauze album cover.

Slade Venom Secret Police (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 30 January 2011 06:15 (thirteen years ago) link

I think that "Tao of the Dead" album looks pretty awesome, like a poster for a steampunk cartoon or comic book. (Possibly the reason I like it is that I've nothing against steampunk fiction, and I don't quite get why many ILXors seem to hate it.) Much better than the sort of album covers with a mundane, faded 1970s polaroid and an IKEA-friendly font, which seem to get a lot of praise in these threads.

Amazing!

Not exactly a new direction for them, but the Demdike Stare "Tryptych" cover is rad:

Is the SY cover just a screengrab from 'Jossy's Giants'?

Rogaine's a hell of a rug (DJ Mencap), Sunday, 30 January 2011 21:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Just saw this Demdike Stare video, which totally puts their cover art aesthetic in motion

Never sure how much depth there is to Demdike's pretentious/portentous schtick but the execution is A++.

^ yeah!
