Cucumbeard (PappaWheelie V), Thursday, 4 December 2008 00:11 (fifteen years ago) link

love the sinead, like the bonnie raitt.

tipsy mothra, Thursday, 4 December 2008 00:17 (fifteen years ago) link

I Do Not Want..., easily, but the Bonnie Raitt record is pretty good.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 4 December 2008 02:30 (fifteen years ago) link

"Forever Your Girl" would have been such an amazing song if they'd given it to somebody who could sing.

Bonnie Raitt wins this one but I never liked Sinead.

UH OH! UH OH! HERE COMES THE HAMMER!

Ringtone Tycoon (The Reverend), Thursday, 4 December 2008 05:49 (fifteen years ago) link

have there been any recent analogs to the bonnie raitt album? 40-yr-old journeyman, respected but never quite a star, suddenly breaking through big nearly 20 years into her/his career? seemed like in the mid-'80s to early '90s there were a lot of aging boomers who had hit records, but maybe that was a phenomenon particular to the era.

tipsy mothra, Thursday, 4 December 2008 06:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Carlos Santana's "Supernatural", maybe? Sure, he was a already a star but nothing like what he became. And he hadn't had a proper hit since the 70's. Can't think of an example from the 2000's.

As for the poll, it's Sinead, easily.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 4 December 2008 09:57 (fifteen years ago) link

Not a very good year.

moley, Thursday, 4 December 2008 10:56 (fifteen years ago) link

I voted for Milli Vanilli.

moley, Thursday, 4 December 2008 10:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Me voting for a somewhat disappointing Phil Collins album here says more about the rest. Sinead O'Connor comes close though.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 4 December 2008 11:28 (fifteen years ago) link

Luck of the Draw is the better album anyway.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 4 December 2008 13:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, blue dress should have been one of the poll choices.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Thursday, 4 December 2008 21:03 (fifteen years ago) link

I used to own ...But Seriously. I still remember Sarah Cracknell's remarks about Collins in this period: "When he sang that song about the homeless, and he wondered, `Tell me why?' I thought, `Because you have all the money, you bald bastard.'"

totally sinead

deviants w. deliriants (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 4 December 2008 22:48 (fifteen years ago) link

blue dress is kinda squatting down like a dude would do.

in that vein, i voted for bonnie raitt.

өөө (Pleasant Plains), Thursday, 4 December 2008 22:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Thursday, 11 December 2008 00:01 (fifteen years ago) link

Yellow-checkered Chess King shirt dude has, appropriately enough, a fucking giraffe neck. Anyway, Sinead.

Emergency Rainbow (Pancakes Hackman), Thursday, 11 December 2008 00:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Mirrored glasses dude on far left has a well packed fly. Sinead.

paulhw, Thursday, 11 December 2008 00:47 (fifteen years ago) link

milli vanilli

Yeah, because Milli Vanilli weren't poseurs...

omar little, Friday, 12 December 2008 00:14 (fifteen years ago) link

well actually no surprise

omar little, Friday, 12 December 2008 00:15 (fifteen years ago) link

The six votes for Hammer ARE a surprise.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 12 December 2008 00:18 (fifteen years ago) link

0 for vanilla ice is a surprise. I thought there would be at least one joker
