Yes it's exciting. Last year Dale Jr. was your DNF leader.

Jimmie Johnson and Gordon have had appalling cars so far. Seriously, the tires on Jeff Gordon's Nicorette Chevrolet 24 were "smoking" all race long. Cough cough sputter sputter hack hack.

Gordon's still a cool customer. He'll race at least until he catches Richard Petty.

Valuable new addition to Jayski

Which isn't to say that I'll be flaming out in 24 gear; that's too much commitment too.

Subtle, gabb. Subtle.

Friends of mine found some infield passes, borrowed an RV from a friend at a dealership, drove down from Portland and spent a long weekend in Vegas. Bastards.

Subtle, gabb. Subtle.

believe it or not, it's not uncommon for me not to realize, at least before the fact, how many allusions I'm making. I also don't regard chartreuse as one of the miracles of science.

Fermentation goes back to the Old Testament. Plenty of miracles there.

I've started watching NASCAR because I can't fathom an entire seven months without football. Tonight I even bought a NASCAR magazine. I guess this is how people 'get into' sports in general, huh?

I'm still not entirely clear on all the rules and regulations but I'm trying to learn by watching.

NASCAR Now on ESPN.

felicity, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 06:55 (sixteen years ago) link

If there were ladies' college NASCAR, I'd watch.

roxymuzak, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 07:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Have you tried ESPN 8 ("The Ocho")?

NASCAR said the victory by Carl Edwards at Las Vegas this past weekend, his second Sprint Cup win in a row, was tainted and slapped Edwards and his Roush Fenway Racing team with its toughest penalty yet. Edwards was docked 100 points - knocking him out of first place - and stripped of the 10 bonus points he earned for the win.

In addition to Edwards' penalty, crew chief Bob Osborne was fined $100,000 and suspended six weeks, and Jack Roush was docked 100 owner points.

The penalties stem from post-race inspection Sunday when NASCAR discovered the cover was off the oil tank in the race-winning No. 99 Ford.

Rival competitors circulated a photo via e-mail Tuesday of Edwards doing a celebratory backflip off his car, and the cover is clearly not attached to the oil tank. It's believed that by opening up the oil tank trunk, the air is able to circulate through the car and create as much as 10 percent more downforce.

Serves him right for depriving the good fans of NASCAR of victory burnouts. If Carl Edwards just smoked his tires like a normal hipster winner, he may not have been caught.

Meanwhile, Robby Gordon won an appeal against NASCAR. (Dodge inadvertently sent him the wrong Charger nose.)

"We plan to put this issue behind us and concentrate on making the Chase in 2008," Gordon said. "Our goal is to be a model team in the future and never go through something like this again."

Maybe the extra burnout from Watkins helped with the appeal?

Kerm and brownie,

Who are your drivers?

felicity, Friday, 7 March 2008 05:18 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm happy about the Gordon decision

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Friday, 7 March 2008 13:46 (sixteen years ago) link

I can't decide on a driver. At first it was "Front Row" Joe Nemecheck then it was Sam Hornish. Now I think it's Kyle Busch because he brings the lols.

I do like that car that has no sponsors. Can't remember the drivers name.

brownie, Friday, 7 March 2008 16:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Kyle is the Jon Williams of NASCAR.

Cast the other drivers as ILXORS:

felicity, Friday, 7 March 2008 16:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Kyle would never ban me tho.

Tony Stewart = Tombot?

brownie, Friday, 7 March 2008 16:52 (sixteen years ago) link

I think I like everybody in proportion to how much I know about them and how often I hear their name, with a little bit of regional favortism thrown in. But there's no, "I can't stand that asshole, Dick Trickle!" And I'm only a mildly militant Chevy guy.

Kerm, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Actually that goes for NASCAR and ILX...

Kerm, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:22 (sixteen years ago) link

I fear a big one on this thread now.

Kyle is so misunderstood. I like his recklessness more than Robby's, because it seems less emo and he's in control enough to bring things back from the edge - I think people are seeing him as less preumptuous now that the extent of his skills is becoming clear. I'm glad that RG appealed and won, though. "Actions detrimental to stock car racing," lol.

gabbneb, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I know I'm not there yet, but part of me wants to be the Robby Gordon of ILX.

Kerm, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:30 (sixteen years ago) link

haha Tony Stewart/Tombot OTM

Guess I have to be Danica Patrick(not many options)

Kerm, you can do it. Just keep your nose clean and you'll stay in the top 35.

felicity, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Kyle Busch is crazy talented BTW. I have him in an office pool.

felicity, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:41 (sixteen years ago) link

Greg Biffle as gabbneb
Richard Petty as Ned
Juan Pablo Montoya as chaki

felicity, Friday, 7 March 2008 18:52 (sixteen years ago) link

I knew there was a reason for fear

Biffle's from a part of Washington that's politically significant, but seems totally uninteresting from a tourism perspective. Not that I've been there.

gabbneb, Friday, 7 March 2008 19:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Brownie, Kyle would spin you out at random and not even notice, because he is a RACECAR, not a truck. Whereas Tony would put up with running behind you for a while and then very deliberately wreck you.

Dale Earnhardt Sr as Laurel, obv.

felicity, Friday, 7 March 2008 20:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Tombot has tried, in the past, to deliberately wreck me. But I avoided it. Who's good at avoiding wrecks? maybe I am him.

brownie, Friday, 7 March 2008 20:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Aw you are Truex then honeypie :)

felicity, Friday, 7 March 2008 20:56 (sixteen years ago) link

I do like that car that has no sponsors. Can't remember the drivers name.

I believe that would be Travis Kvapil, who I think should be driving the Aflac duck car.

I bet 25 on Truex last weekend. You bet matchups so he was going against Boywer. Truex started in 3rd and ended up 2 laps down when it finished. I blame Goodyear tires and felicity.
