rony seikaly is underrated. he'd be a top 5 center these days easy

tremendoid, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:19 (fifteen years ago) link

adam keefe looking like john c mcginley right dere

m bison, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:20 (fifteen years ago) link

tremendoid, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:21 (fifteen years ago) link

got a new style for the 08 you guys

tremendoid, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:23 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, seikaly was pretty decent and fairly agile. keefe was mostly a hustle dude, like a matt harpring but not as strong

6335, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:26 (fifteen years ago) link

rony seikaly is like the vinnie testaverde of the nba.

danny ferry y/n?
shawn bradley?

6335, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:29 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm just trying to remember the c's rosters from the late 80s, early 90s at this point. chock full o'stiffs.

oooh! michael smith!

chicago kevin, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:32 (fifteen years ago) link

the #1 draft pick that pretty much made everyone stop listening to red auerbach after 1989:

chicago kevin, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:34 (fifteen years ago) link

danny ferry no, he was pretty athletic. shawn bradley is in his own category. i see enforcers like joe kleine (who could hit an open jumpshot occasionally) as very skilled in their own way.

that guy who used to be on sacramento, with the beard. scott something
guys like z and vlade divac would be stiffs but for some euro-flair

tremendoid, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:40 (fifteen years ago) link

well, z did have the numbers a few years ago for a spell

tremendoid, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:41 (fifteen years ago) link

scot pollard, wasnt he the dude who said "hey kids, do drugs" to the camera from the bench during a nationally-televised game? if so, ROLE PLAYER HOLLAFAME

m bison, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:42 (fifteen years ago) link

Despite the career highlight captured in this photo, there is absolutely NO DOUBT that former Timberwolve STOJKO VRANKOVIC was a STIFF:

vlade can't be a stiff, he played in 15 seasons and wound up averaging over 8 boards and almost 12 points a game.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:49 (fifteen years ago) link

psycho roberts wasn't a stiff either!

chicago kevin, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:50 (fifteen years ago) link

yer right kevin, i had actually written "some of these dudes aren't as stiff as others" but i guess i deleted it

Jerry West discovery Cezary Trybanski:

http://www.knicks.republika.pl/photos/trybanski2.jpg

Hubie Brown, Thursday, 29 May 2008 18:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Big Country looked the part, but was actually a decent player until his back gave out.

Vlade edges Seikaly as the best player mentioned here. Neither are anywhere close to a stiff.

Hubie Brown, Thursday, 29 May 2008 18:08 (fifteen years ago) link

three decent seasons does not a non-stiff make. back troubles only underscore his stiffness.

m bison, Thursday, 29 May 2008 18:10 (fifteen years ago) link

there were some dark, dark, years where psycho roberts was the sole shining light on some mediocre c's squads. they weren't terrible, they weren't good, they were just kind of there.

Robert Archibald, whom Jerry West drafted ahead of Carlos Boozer because he thought Boozer was TOO SLOW:

Hubie Brown, Thursday, 29 May 2008 18:11 (fifteen years ago) link

huh, my memory must be clouded because according to basketballreference.com, fred was in fact a stiff.

xpost.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 29 May 2008 18:12 (fifteen years ago) link

i take back vlade, i think it's colored by his lakers tenure being pretty lean years

Hubie Brown, Thursday, 29 May 2008 21:28 (fifteen years ago) link

was koncak that bad? i thought he was a kinda proto-googs

tremendoid, Thursday, 29 May 2008 22:05 (fifteen years ago) link

He was a career 5 points/5 boards guy and a legit seven-footer. He was the protype.

Hubie Brown, Thursday, 29 May 2008 22:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Sven Nater almost fit this category, but was just a bit too good to earn the title "big stiff". Gheorghe Muresan, otoh, fits it like a hand in a glove.

Aimless, Friday, 30 May 2008 00:15 (fifteen years ago) link

la sports radio jokers give out a daily "koncak award" for the prior evening's worst performance.

dan, Friday, 30 May 2008 19:46 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't think Bonner is a stiff, but one of the most comical moments of the season I saw live was when he tried to D-up Rudy Gay early this season. Pop pulled him after three straight embarrassing scores by Rudy.

greg kite will always define this for me

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 31 May 2008 04:53 (fifteen years ago) link

he's not a stiff nor white but i want to sing the praises (quietly) of sam bowie. he was kind of smooth when he was ambulatory

tremendoid, Saturday, 31 May 2008 11:04 (fifteen years ago) link

Bowie never had an NBA career worth speaking of, but he was a nice person, a hard worker, and did have something to show on court. Too bad his knees never made the transition to the pros.

I didn't realize until I did a Google Image search for "Travis Knight" that that's who the long-haired dude upthread was. I also didn't know there's apparently a porn dude named Travis Knight. Not the same guy, probably.

nine years pass...

Not every ex-classmate tracked down to talk about Kavanaugh remembered him as a complete sponge. Former NBA center Chris Dudley, a close friend of Kavanaugh’s at Yale, told the Post: “I went out with him all the time. He never blacked out. Never even close to blacked out.” Turns out, the former Knick might not be the most reliable source about his college years though. In 2010, while running for governor of Oregon as a Republican, he told a local paper that, despite records showing he registered as a Democrat after his freshman year of college, he had no recollection of ever belonging to the party.
