I don't know why, but I have not heard "Oh!" on the radio (in CT) - they're still boombangin' the hell out of the first 2 singles, tho. & I really wish they'd stop playing the Fabolous remix of "Get Right" - the version from the video is a LOT better.

I just started hearing "Oh!" on the radio this week. the station here plays a version of "Get Right" with the original sax loop beat w/ the Fab verses on it, which is the best of both worlds really.

Why's Missy doing the Puffy "I'm about to lose my voice I'm yelling so specially and pointlessly over the beat" at the beginning? I really do expect her to say "Bad Boy" or "And we won't stop, cause we can't stop" or something.

the nicest thing i can say about this is that it's interesting. unfortunately i'm not really feeling it.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 11 March 2005 18:49 (nineteen years ago) link

I must confess that I identify with Missy in that whenever I hear it I want to yell "WICKED!" and run it back to the beginning over and over.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 11 March 2005 18:58 (nineteen years ago) link

It's funny because it's like Missy and Lady Sov switched for their Current prospective releases.

270 to go.

haha good luck. I'm afraid your bringing up Amerie as a point of comparison in the very first post insured a lot of wet blanket responses.

EXACTLY

For the record, Missy is fucking fabulous on this song.

ori Alamaze - Dont cha

On dissensus I read this as Tori Amos. hah. THen I realized this was the song that had been stuck in my head the past day. It's great, but not sth I like having stuck in my head as I can only remember the nervous delivery.

Tweet's single is pretty good.

Has anyone heard Rjd2's Tweet remix?

JoB (JoB), Friday, 11 March 2005 22:07 (nineteen years ago) link

I want to.

djdee (djdee2005), Friday, 11 March 2005 22:11 (nineteen years ago) link

The album is completely bonkers and WONDERFUL. Tweet is a great singer and an even better -- weirder -- songwriter: "You must be sort of deranged / Your worth is less than small change / To cry that to me is sort of insane"....

And let's just list samples here: "Sports, Sex, and Food" is insane Missy production with a Meters sample; "Cab Ride" is a bittersweet song over Bob James' "Taxi" theme; Missy uses Hoagy Carmichael's "Stardust".

are there any noise/prince ballads like "drunk"? keep talking about this; this probably won't hit NZ for months.

rolling stone gave this ONE star!!

so it must be good, obv..

special guest appearance, Friday, 25 March 2005 16:12 (nineteen years ago) link

There are no guest appearances by Mick Jagger.

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Friday, 25 March 2005 16:14 (nineteen years ago) link

Besides the (great) single, I only like "Sports, Sex & Food". Very tedious, unfortunately.

JoB (JoB), Friday, 25 March 2005 16:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Very wrong, unfortunately.

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Friday, 25 March 2005 16:51 (nineteen years ago) link

This is still single of the year, for the record.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Friday, 25 March 2005 17:36 (nineteen years ago) link

I like it, not really in my top twenty or anything right now tho.

two weeks pass...
Anyone who doesn't rate this as single of the year so far is simply wrong. The first five seconds (with the sped-up Marvin Gaye sample) are simply blissful, and Missy is fabulous as always.

every time i hear this i'm like, huh why does missy like this so much if it's not doing much for me; later on in the song i feel the beat more, but it hasn't yet taken over enough to where missy's enthusiasm seems unforced. i mean, it's good, but it doesn't do it for me yet. (missy's verse here is great, despite her almost falling asleep during!)

there's some really sophisticated songwriting-production-arranging (hard to separate them with the particular things they're up to here) on the album.
