man, do you get the golden lab puppy with the bag? all preppies have to have golden labradors, black labs, irish setters and/or dalmations running around their country homes in large packs. it's just one of those things.
― kate, Tuesday, 3 December 2002 14:43 (twenty-one years ago) link
Oh dear Lord, I thought precisely that when I looked at the photo. Because I was always getting penalised for that at school. However, my class was always grateful for the steaming shots I'd hit off down the field and which the opposition would jump to get out of the way of. *sigh* displacing adolescent rage into violent sports. But this was English grammar school and thus not preppy in the slightest, particularly since Medway Towns girls (even the ones who had the nous to pass the 11-plus exam) are pretty much all vile slags.

Destroy: Abercombie & Fitch (or whatever the hell it's called)-type big logos on hats and nice sweaters and so-forth; preps that try to combine nice clothes with a nu metal look (I guess I'm talking about boys there); fancy cars that aren't that cool (expensive SUVs); rockers whose parents give them money to support their guitar habits (though, yes, I'm totally jealous)

the prep school boy/girl gone bad is the hallmark of early indie.
how to tell a REAL prep: artificial fabrics have never actually touched their skin. REAL preps just don't do polyester or other artificial fibre.
mmmm, jonathan fire*eater, now THEY were some tasty lads. they were so clean cut and lovely when they started. at least until the smack habits started. such a shame... hate the walkmen, can't get my head around the singer's voice, and besides, french kicks are doing preppy garage so much better. french kicks, mmmmmmmmmmm!!! nick kicks saved me from the strokes, bless him.

After reading through this thread, I'm amazed at how much of my dress is considered preppy! I rock the Mr. Rogers sweater, I rock the cardigan! And I do it so unironically that it's entirely IRONICAL!!!!
It's all part of my promotion scheme for my band...we're totally dorky rapcore emofunk! The heaviest band to ever wear cardigans! The nerdiest 'with-the-vocalist-pushing-his-glasses-up-onto-his-nose-while-spittin'-it' rap/metal band evah!

Yes. Oxford is the cloth it's made of (the other, smooth type is poplin) not the shirt itself.
http://www.churchsshoes.com/TEMPLATE/FrontEnd/Images/BlswrthBmfrd.gifThe upper of the two shoes here is an Oxford ('dress' type lace-up, can be in black or brown leather, or suede - a lot of manufacturers now seem to think *any* unornamented shoe in black leather can be called an Oxford, for example this monstrousity:http://www.hedi.com/Mens_Shoes/havana_joe/hj0202_lg.jpg
