One of my drunken friends put in my air conditioner on Saturday night so I am cool.

i just walked home from the western/milwaukee el stop and it's hotter than fuck out there. my balls are melting like crayons left in the back window of a car.

chicago kevin, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:03 (sixteen years ago) link

give me all this hot salt

dan m, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Hmmm. I *was* going to go get some lunch, but I may actually skip it so as to maintain the illusion that it's not hot as fuck outside. As soon as I got here this morning I cranked the a/c DOOOOOWWWWN.

Jesse, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:11 (sixteen years ago) link

You may be thinking to yourself, "How is the vulcan monster salt different from, say, this stuff: http://www.vonfox.com/Voiceovers/Morton_Hot_Salt.gif ?"

My answer to you would be that the spice house hot salt does not have creepy unidentifyable additives. Ingredients of Morton's hot salt = Ingredients: Salt, spices (including chipotle chili pepper and red pepper), sugar, maltodextrin. Contains two percent or less of the following: natural flavors, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (cottonseed, soybean), silicon dioxide (prevents caking)

"spices"

La Lechera, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link

We had an office potluck just now, so I haven't been outside since this morning, either.

jaymc, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link

also, the spice house might have a different quality of spices than cheapo store brands. when i started cooking with penzey's spices i had to decrease the amounts i usually used because they were more potent.

JuliaA, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:16 (sixteen years ago) link

totally

La Lechera, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Going to Penzey's makes me want to cook more than almost anything else.

Jordan, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:20 (sixteen years ago) link

It's 87.8 outside right now. ALARMIST LIKE A FOX, I AM!

Jesse, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:22 (sixteen years ago) link

are you closer to the lake? because it seems way hotter than that on western ave.

chicago kevin, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:24 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm at 60607. Jackson and Peoria.

Tom Skilling says 89.

I need a new bed. I'm thinking of this base:

Jesse, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:25 (sixteen years ago) link

There's storage under the base!

Jesse, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:25 (sixteen years ago) link

That kind of looks like a kid's bed.

Jordan, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:26 (sixteen years ago) link

How so?

You have the option of sleeping inside of it.

Jesse, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I guess because it looks like it has drawers.

Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream: Grade A. Would eat again.

Everyone should be eating ice cream today.

kenan, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:40 (sixteen years ago) link

It doesn't have drawers--it lifts up.

Jesse, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:41 (sixteen years ago) link

I like this website a lot. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/

Jesse, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:43 (sixteen years ago) link

You should be looking at http://chicago.apartmenttherapy.com/, sell out.

dan m, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:44 (sixteen years ago) link

88 degrees according to the bank here in Deerfield, and it felt every single one of those.

their default location is NYC. It's kind of odd that they have different cities, since most of the stuff they link to is available online.

Just like the Noise Board, then.

I think the er founder/creator of the site lives in NYC, Jesse? And did most of his consulting/therapy work there, if I'm not mistaken (not that I've looked it up or anything). I have to say, though, that the book is really easy and unintimidating and makes it seem like not such a big deal to do the regular-length "cure" on yr apartment, rather than making you feel like design and decor are for professionals ONLY.

Laurel, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I recommended it to an ex once who was v concerned with his lovely apt being empty and "cold"-seeming and wasn't sure where to start -- he bought a copy for each of us and then broke up with me. :)

Laurel, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, I didn't even know there was a book! Or maybe I did. Anyway, this is my first real exposure to AT. It's more apartment porn, on top of Big Style, Small Spaces.

Jesse, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:08 (sixteen years ago) link

cold apartment: 1
Laurel: 0

kenan, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:13 (sixteen years ago) link

Ach well, it was unrelated except that overall I think he's a less warm person who needed his space and rawther controlled surroundings. That's okay, it turns out I don't need to worry about his empty apartment anyway!

i have a wiener dog on my lap and another smaller wiener dog running back and forth on the back of my couch. and two boxes of jay reatard merch on my living room floor, i could solve my financial woes right quick, who wants a great t-shirt at a low price?

chicago kevin, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:20 (sixteen years ago) link

(Psst plus he hated midcentury furniture, so obv that was doomed.)

Laurel, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:21 (sixteen years ago) link

How did you get the merch, K?

I need to just delete my MySpace account already. And Friendster, too.

jaymc, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:28 (sixteen years ago) link

I am transferring all of my stock over to Facebook, since it's the only social-networking site where one of the founders lists my band in the Favorite Music section of his profile.

jaymc, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:29 (sixteen years ago) link

I think of that as online suicide. Robin Ru22o did that a while back when she was in a depression. It's funny.

Jesse, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:30 (sixteen years ago) link

You mean Robin Ru55o?

jaymc, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Is that really why?

I mostly use myspace to listen to music at work, and also when I want to crash my web browser.
