this game is going for 19.99 on xbox now.. brand new

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 18 January 2011 01:22 (thirteen years ago) link

another cheap totally underrated game: $30 for Alpha Protocol

Mordy, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 01:22 (thirteen years ago) link

I think I just turned a corner in this game - learning how to "fly" with the chute and grapple. The "ohhhh I get it now" was similar to when I first surfed the electrical lines in InFamous.

great thing to do with this game: climb a mountain to find a citadel, kill everyone in it, blow up everything and then leap off the side of the mountain. unfortunately, this is more or less the ONLY thing to do with this game.

drive really fast on your motorcycle off a cliff, hit your parachute at the last second, glide over beautiful snow capped mountains into a river valley below

Mordy, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 04:52 (thirteen years ago) link

Speedboats off cliffs are fun too. As is hooking two planes together and watching them death spiral into a city.

Ah, good times.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 05:02 (thirteen years ago) link

i loved this game but there was def a point where the stupidity of the writing and story became more than just "eh". because i kinda wanted the repetition to add up to something, i guess

goole, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 06:09 (thirteen years ago) link

two months pass...

revisited this recently, bloody loving it. I should be complaing that it's fairly repetetive but somehow I keep finding things to do picking up hidden stuff or randomly destroying government property. My favourite right now is taking out the antenna stations. Twanging the supporting cables with my chopper.

The dialogue is hilarious. There's a mission where you have to pick up some prostitute and the woman who is telling you about the mission constantly bad mouths the 'filthy whore'

sooo many missions too.

if you wanna gamble, take that shit to vegas (Ste), Monday, 11 April 2011 11:03 (thirteen years ago) link

just got this

& it is hilarious

I'm gonna do the missions over time but just fucking around is def fun. I just like to blow stuff up I think, & then ride away to some new locale, ad nauseum (since I get motion sick in these kinds of games, but it's worth it)

Euler, Saturday, 15 October 2011 00:22 (twelve years ago) link

that's good for like a week and then the game kinda sputters out.

130+ hours, still haven't finished the story. Beautiful game for silly 20 minute blasts of mayhem.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 15 October 2011 00:53 (twelve years ago) link

or that too.

loads of personality, loved to chase chickens (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 15 October 2011 00:59 (twelve years ago) link

yeah that's all I wanted, for $15 that's perfect

Euler, Saturday, 15 October 2011 02:08 (twelve years ago) link

that's good for like a week and then the game kinda sputters out.

that's what i felt too, but i think that's because a) i didn't really stick to the missions because the scripts and acting were too dull and (more importantly) b) i found the missions very hard.

Joe Romeo, Concerned New Yorker (stevie), Wednesday, 19 October 2011 20:49 (twelve years ago) link

yeah like i said, man, nearly a year ago now, the stupidity was an afterthought for much of the game... until it wasn't. there was no reason for the mission design to be so repetitive and for the writing and v/o to be so bad.

it pains me to say that, but it's true these days.

this is a fun game for me, i have a million hours in and still not completed but i pick it up every now and again for just a muck about and to do some more missions. a bit like how i play fallout 3 really.

wow save game fuck up. all that work

good job i enjoy the shit out of this damn game

prop forward turned celebrity chef (Ste), Sunday, 4 August 2013 21:18 (ten years ago) link

i had something similar happen with my gta:SA game on the 360. was one mission away from completion. almost got that far when i played it on ps2. i'm never gonna finish that game.

(and when i say 'completion', ste, i just mean the story missions. i know you've probs nabbed every morsel of graffiti!)

There shouldn't be a thread for Dennis Perrin tweets. (stevie), Sunday, 4 August 2013 21:55 (ten years ago) link

youd better believe it. hundred percent on both ps2 and xbox versions.

but yeah thats tough losing the game so close to the end. even just doing the missions was an epic journey for san andreas.

in jc2 i just like finding and owning all the locations and faction items. i dont think i'll ever finish this one

prop forward turned celebrity chef (Ste), Sunday, 4 August 2013 22:00 (ten years ago) link

completing the big city in this one was too damn hard; I got 3/4 of them but on the 4th stuck at like 96% (or more? can't say, has been months). problem is that you can't use the net for help because I do not want to check every single coordinate. obsessive gameplay has its costs

Euler, Sunday, 4 August 2013 22:11 (ten years ago) link

white tiger mission is overly long and the worst part of this game.

but goddam its so cool just powering through this game

Finally finished the missions the other day, just time for gta i guess.

But loving this game, I'm almost 70% done and no intention of stopping.

prop forward turned celebrity chef (Ste), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 10:27 (ten years ago) link

have done all the locations now, at 93.5% or so, thinking about putting it down since I don't wanna do all the races (fuck traffic) but yeah, what a game. 120+ hrs in the end

Euler, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 12:48 (ten years ago) link

There are still a few things I can't find in the cities to finish them 100%. It's driving me nuts.

am0n, Tuesday, 11 November 2014 20:27 (nine years ago) link

You should play Just Because 2. Why? I think you know the answer to that one.

i only wanted freidn (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 11 November 2014 20:30 (nine years ago) link

It's just behind the timesuck that is Skyrim in the time I've spent playing it. I never, ever get tired of it.

Picked up JC3 couple of days ago, cheap on Steam that's why.

So it's glitchy as hell and on the whole feels like a clumsy PC production but I can't stop playing despite that. The utterly awful AI coupled with some dodgy physics makes for some interesting stuff, but can make escort missions too frustrating.

I also hate the winged suit addition.
