BTW, Rodgers is a pretty awesome dude. He signed one of my Magic: The Gathering cards.

what card

johnny crunch, Monday, 17 January 2011 21:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Mox Emerald (I think it's valued at around $300, it's unlimited but still near mint)

No idea why I did it, just seemed like a cool and random thing to have

frogbs, Monday, 17 January 2011 21:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Pete Carroll's Twitter avatar is great:

pete carroll's twitter is great, period.

he's wacky, and he tweets a "song of the day."

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 17 January 2011 21:34 (thirteen years ago) link

i had the blue mox at 1 point in my life. that is fairly crazy but w/e, good job frog bs! i feel safe in saying it is probably one of a kind

johnny crunch, Monday, 17 January 2011 21:41 (thirteen years ago) link

yes it probably is though my gut feeling was that I probably devalued the card $50-100 by doing so.

now it's probably worth more than an unsigned one, and could be much higher if say, he wins the super bowl, but I have no idea what kind of market there would be for that.

frogbs, Monday, 17 January 2011 21:45 (thirteen years ago) link

frogbs that's so rad

green mana works w/ green bay too

I think there is probably some dude in america willing to pay $5000 for that, you just have to find that dude

iatee, Monday, 17 January 2011 22:25 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah that's about what it would take to get me to sell it too

I mean I doubt the sig itself makes much difference but it's a one-of-a-kind thing that I can't really put a price on

did you guys hear about mike florio trying to make everyone think aaron rodgers hates cancer patients?

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/01/16/aaron-rodgers-has-a-lot-to-learn-about-where-his-money-comes-from/

and how the story blew up in his face and how he's now desperately trying to save face?

xpost - That (non) story pissed me off so bad. Fuck a Florio, man.

VegemiteGrrrl, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 22:06 (thirteen years ago) link

hey frog, can you put up a scan of the autographed card? I think that is SO cool

VegemiteGrrrl, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 22:07 (thirteen years ago) link

FUCK Mike Florio, God that article was infuriating. Him showing scorn to the cancer patient for not following along in his assassination of Rodgers reminds me of the South Park episode where the gay rights advocate called Big Gay Al a homophobe.

There are plenty of degenerate players in the league already, write about them.

lol give me a couple days...believe it or not they are all tuckered away in my mom's basement somewhere :)

frogbs, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 22:23 (thirteen years ago) link

you mean you don't carry it around with you? ;_;

VegemiteGrrrl, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 22:26 (thirteen years ago) link

Gregg Doyel over at CBS Sports wrote a rebuttal...it's a little bit on the sentimental side but I kinda liked it, just for telling more of the real side that Florio ignored.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/14567073/twosecond-video-clip-doesnt-at-all-capture-rodgers

VegemiteGrrrl, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 22:28 (thirteen years ago) link

i'd most definitely carry it around if it wasn't so valuable. as it stands my 'lucky charm' is a dollar i got back in change at my work cafeteria, with a "B" and "R" placed on the back so it spells "BONER"

frogbs, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 22:33 (thirteen years ago) link

also I do have something even better that I can get you a picture of...my brother drew a picture of Rodgers belting on a sign that we brought to the 49ers game...the thing is such a beauty

frogbs, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 22:34 (thirteen years ago) link

I desire to see these things, frog

VegemiteGrrrl, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 22:35 (thirteen years ago) link

i would say that i would like to see mike florio beaten senseless for those articles, but i wouldn't step in to protest.

omar little, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 00:42 (thirteen years ago) link

I wish he would go away.

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 00:47 (thirteen years ago) link

should i place bets against the jets?

it would be sad to have debts because of the jets.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 January 2011 00:51 (thirteen years ago) link

do one of the props instead of the game, there's more money that way.

five deadly venoms (San Te), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 00:53 (thirteen years ago) link

To me, both of these games are pick-em at best. I don't see any club having a big advantage on the other one, which is kind of true to how the season really went down.

earlnash, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:36 (thirteen years ago) link

florio is one of those guys who can never ever admit he's wrong, it's like the daily kos of football

mookieproof, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:08 (thirteen years ago) link

I like the Steelers as a franchise, and as a team, I'm just wanting someone new this year.

five deadly venoms (San Te), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:08 (thirteen years ago) link

who is your team?

mookieproof, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, who do you root for San Te? I was just wondering that today

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:14 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm a Miami Dolphins fan

five deadly venoms (San Te), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:19 (thirteen years ago) link

so I often live vicariously through other teams in the playoffs, at least in the post-Marino era

five deadly venoms (San Te), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:19 (thirteen years ago) link

my comment above, weirdly worded as it was, was just saying I'd prefer not to see the Steelers win again

five deadly venoms (San Te), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:20 (thirteen years ago) link

I totally love their defense though.

five deadly venoms (San Te), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:20 (thirteen years ago) link

you should probably support dan marino's hometown imo

mookieproof, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:21 (thirteen years ago) link

On the campaign trail, huh mookie? :)

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:23 (thirteen years ago) link

steelers are a cool team imo. no problem if they win it.

same with the packers.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:24 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't live and die with the steelers the way i do with the penguins, but yeah i do think they are largely a force for good in pittsburgh and the league. which is one of the reasons the ben thing bothers me a lot.

mookieproof, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:26 (thirteen years ago) link

we can't hatcat "jets" it would have everybody on ILX up in arms everytime they talked about jets

thank you based jättegod (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:26 (thirteen years ago) link

i can't even understand hating the packers (well, unless you're a vikings or bears fan) -- how can you not love a collectively owned team from a town of 101,025 people

mookieproof, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:28 (thirteen years ago) link

it might not matter much, but you should maybe hatcat j-e-t-s then

mookieproof, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:28 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, steelers and packers are cool pillars of the league. awesome super-bowl matchup imo. two cool helmets/uniforms, too.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Mike Tomlin is great, I think if I was starting a club and had to pick a coach, he might be the dude. That said, as a little kid in the 70s, I was more in the Staubach Cowboys fan (my dad was in the Navy in the early 60s and he loved Roger the Dodger, as they got time off to listen to them on the radio back in the day) and I thought the Houston Oilers got ripped off by the Steelers by shite calls then in the 80s I followed the Bengals, so I have NEVER liked the Steelers. Add that in with a few of the high profile creeps on their roster, I just don't like them. The Jets are loud and obnoxious, but the they haven't won it forver and I don't think they are building a dynasty, so they don't freak me out. I thought Rex Ryan was a guy I would have picked as a coach a couple of years ago.

I'd also rather the Bears meet the Jets in the Superbowl, if it its going down.

earlnash, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:30 (thirteen years ago) link

i'd rather have my right eye gouged out with a rusty nail than have the jets in the superbowl, but there you are.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:32 (thirteen years ago) link

I did have to look that up, though, which reminded me of Hasselbeck infamously said "We want the ball, and we’re gonna score!" During the second overtime possession for the Seahawks, Hasselbeck threw an interception to Packers defensive back Al Harris which was returned 52 yards for a touchdown. It gave Green Bay a 33-27 overtime victory

Haaaaaaaa

C-L, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

is it too cynical to say that the cream rises regardless? like, matt flynn has sat behind rodgers, and he doesn't strike me as anything beyond a marginal starter

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

same for chad henne

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

I was confused as to which Hasselbeck started where before the lesser Hasselbeck had to resign to a life of being the husband of that crazy lady from the View.

C-L, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:33 (thirteen years ago) link

Kurt Warner is the exception to most qb rules.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:34 (thirteen years ago) link

Where did lesser Hasselbeck play?

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Giants, I know. I forget the others.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Wikipedia is a Hasselbeckian treat today! On Elizabeth Hasselbeck: Hasselbeck and The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg were discussing Senator Hillary Clinton's proposal that the U.S. Government provide a $5,000 savings bond for each child at birth. The conversation became heated when Hasselbeck stated it would lead to fewer abortions due to women wanting to keep the money.

Women be shoppin' u_u

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Riding bench vs playing also interesting wrt Sanchez...kind of feel like Jets hold him at cross purposes, like "get out there!" but "call home every 30 minutes so we know you're okay". Feel like the only way anyone is going to know for sure about him is if they loosen the reins on him, let him make his own mistakes. Bunt guess the league isn't like that anymore.

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:52 (thirteen years ago) link

Bunt? But I

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:53 (thirteen years ago) link

the australian open is currently on espn2 (tape delayed)

the scrolling ticker at the bottom of the screen is informing me that when the steelers & packers played in 2009, roffles was 6-for-7 using play-action and rogers was something-for-something when facing 5+ pass rushers

i mean, come on

mookieproof, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 21:22 (thirteen years ago) link

VegemiteGrrrl, Thursday, 27 January 2011 00:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Big B makes the same plays over and over again completely oblivious to the chaos surrounding him but still the loss of Pouncey Billups will have me betting on the Packers.
