One of the songs uses cowbells pitched down to sound like steel drums (probably the only drum sounds I've actually recorded myself).

Thanks Hoos, you're too kind! I can't normally play music like that, it just came from making the tune more and more complicated over the course of three years...

know this isn't really meant for this but I haven't been able to record anything seriously in a while given that I don't have soundproofing at the new location and roomie sits home all night blasting surround sound tv....from a karaoke night a while back, horrible quality but you can hear notes...starts at like the 1:03 mark.

should be getting some proper spec remixes on the go next week, waiting to hear what's available

owenf, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 19:59 (thirteen years ago) link

here's a song i've been working on for a couple of weeks. I was procrastinating having to do vocals so I ended up adding tons of layers (for me) and then mixing it got complicated and I'm not sure the whole thing really coheres but it's kind of cool:

really love the intro, i wanted it to keep that half-time, minimal drum feel the whole time (but i would).

maybe i'll do a half-time minimal remix. don't know if i have enough drum track production skills to make it work but there are definitely plenty of other elements there for me to work with.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 4 February 2011 18:07 (thirteen years ago) link

I like the Middle Eastern feel of the intro.

philippe is standing on it (MaresNest), Thursday, 10 February 2011 10:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Okay, so I finally had a listen to the Constant Light record on my way to work this morning and it's excellent! Great Job guys, bringing the 'wub' in a supremely elegant fashion. I'm looking forward to hearing what else is planned for this year.

Have to say, it felt very much that I should really be listening to it on a late night ride through the streets of Tokyo, as opposed to a grey, drizzly commute through the suburbs of NW London!

I was tickled to hear a specific keyboard sound that I'm certain I've only heard on OMD records, like the end of 'Georgia' for instance (if you know that song).

Would love, love to do a remix if you are interested in that sort of thing.

I've recorded some demos, but the mixing is atrocious, so I'll just post this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGuGsutualE

I've spent about 4 years trying to figure out how to play in that style, while at the same time getting into dance music. So obviously, the next step is to find someone who can replicate 2 step and UK garage beats on a drum kit, and have a delightfully incongruous Dadrock/Funky house band!

Just recorded some more low-quality cassette demo tracks. The first four are the new ones:

Fetchboy, Thursday, 3 March 2011 18:29 (thirteen years ago) link

Sounds almost like a non-operatic electro Associates with early 90's rave synths. I'm diggin it; is that you singing? The guitar on the third track fits in well with the electronics; since hearing the Dirtbombs album I've become really enamoured of the idea
