fucking love this album

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:29 (thirteen years ago) link

tempted by all of them

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:30 (thirteen years ago) link

"Move It On Over," over "One Bourbon etc."

Best songs on his 16-song 2003 Rounder best-of Who Do You Love? that aren't listed above: "Can't Stop Lovin'," "Madison Blues," "Who Do You Love?," "House Of Blue Lights," "Ride On Josephine," "New Hawaiian Boogie," "Night Time."

xhuxk, Friday, 14 January 2011 17:33 (thirteen years ago) link

this isn't an album, i just grabbed the titles of a bunch of songs i've either heard a billion times or seemed to do well on radio charts

some dude, Friday, 14 January 2011 17:33 (thirteen years ago) link

this isn't an album

Ha, that explains why I never heard of it before.

You left out "Get A Haircut," though! Pretty sure that one got novelty-hit-style airplay.

xhuxk, Friday, 14 January 2011 17:35 (thirteen years ago) link

Most of these songs are on the first album, are they not?

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:35 (thirteen years ago) link

Ha, weird the answer is no - I have conflated like three George Thorogood albums into one mega-album in my head

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:36 (thirteen years ago) link

He doesn't have the right voice for it but I always liked "I'm Just Your Good Thing" .. it was a nice tempo shifter

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Voted for "Move It On Over"

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Here's a thing I wrote about him a few years ago. He was a blast to interview.

that's not funny. (unperson), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, Move it On Over, for however many million times I've heard it, is still undeniable.

Glorified Lolcat (Dan Peterson), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:45 (thirteen years ago) link

xp List also leaves out 1985's "Willie And The Hand Jive" -- which is, bizarrely, his only Billboard Hot 100 hit even though I'm fairly positive I've never heard it on the radio. ("I Drink Alone" was apparently the B-side.)

xhuxk, Friday, 14 January 2011 17:47 (thirteen years ago) link

I Drink Alone.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 14 January 2011 17:50 (thirteen years ago) link

One Bourbon, One Scotch, and One Beer

Brad C., Friday, 14 January 2011 17:53 (thirteen years ago) link

"Who Do You Love" is fucking sensational too

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:59 (thirteen years ago) link

Great stuff, unperson! I liked this:

When I go see a show, I don't want a lot of nonsense. I don't wanna hear your life story. And I don't like to give people time to think. They don't come the show to think. Once you've got the hammer down, keep it down."

Also being whipped across the face with a car antenna is a very good way to describe those early records

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 January 2011 18:02 (thirteen years ago) link

meant to put "Get A Haircut" in here -- i guess that's the space where i somehow put in "Bad To The Bone" a 2nd time instead

some dude, Friday, 14 January 2011 18:44 (thirteen years ago) link

This guy gets a bad rap based on how ubiquitous he is on classic rock radio, but they're a badass band.

I mean, shit - listen to the Band play "Who Do You Love" during the Last Waltz, and then listen to the Destroyers. No fucking contest.

This dude would be in my top ten of musicians to have a drink with.

Another for "One Bourbon..." When I was a little kid, I thought that the spoken part at the beginning was a hi-larious comedy bit.

six months pass...

I'm in walmart, and in the bargain bin there's a new cheapie George comp called "ten great songs". "Certified Hood Classics" sounds so much better.

According to that first article/interview unperson did with GT, he said by 70 he'll be retired and living in Hawaii under a palm tree -- four years to go! (He's touring next March.)
