Can we talk about mens' business dress?

those ties go fine w/ suits? or at least my suits? business dress is abt making statements w/ subtle things - ties, cufflinks, the cut of your jacket, the finish of your shoes. distinction through conformity or w/e

fwiw i worked in p conservative enviornment (i-bank) & none of those pucci ties are remotely 'too much' like id routinely wear a p garish orange and navy hermes tie w/ some suits & never get a 2nd look

have a pucci tie and I think it only works with a black suit and plain white shirt. (dark charcoal may work but I don't have one)

As a rule I would say the more vibrant the tie the plainer the suit and shirt. My opposite to the plain suit and pucci tie is a prince of wales check (very subtle, with a red stripe), that works well with a white shirt and red tie, both have the same jaquard pattern in different sizes and orientation.

That said, normal business dress for me is jeans, liberty print shirt and cardigan. Occasionally with crochet tie, very occasionally with a tweed jacket. I keep a Hugo Boss charcoal herringbone tweed jacket on my coat rack in the office for visiting dignitaries.

not sure if i agree w/ this - you have to be subtle but you its not like youd can pair a patterned tie w/ a grey flannel suit and sharp white shirt or something

Yeah, don't always agree with this, although seems like the more vibrant the tie the harder it is to match with a non-plain shirt/suit.

It's a truism that in his ties and, perhaps jewelry, a 'well-dressed man' is allowed some flamboyance and it only takes a cursory look at many a well-dressed Englishman to see that distictive ties can work with otherwise sober-looking suits. I wouldn't wear the Pucci ties w/anything other than a very simple suitcloth, though; grey, black, blue at a stretch or whatever summery linen colors you have and either match your tie to the suit or complement it. Seeing patterns like that or paisleys with a striped suit, for example, or God forfend, a windowpane pattern gives me a headache.

Hmm, actually my charcoal suit has white pinstripes, though thin ones and not super strong. Still, that could be the problem. I never really liked white pinstripes, and glad my new suit is solid navy.

Too many lines going in different directions. I wear patterned ties sometimes with my chalkstripe suit but they tend to be dense patterns that suggest texture more than pattern if that makes sense.

me too. i only own one suit and its burnt orange. and its kinda nylon/polyester'y. the kind of thing that makes that swoosh-swoosh-swoosh sound from where the legs rub together when you walk..
