Another one I've never heard of. Will investigate.

WESTERING
"Help A Body" CD (PARADIGMS035)
£7.99 postpaid worldwide.

The debut album from Seattle's WESTERING - a powerful, voidic journey through low-fi outsider black metal laced with cascading shoegaze and driving post punk. Based in Seattle and New York, Westering have created a cold, urban dreamscape of isolationist black metal, claustrophic ambience filtered through a haze of frozen bliss and driving rhythms and percussion that remind us of early Cure or Joy Division in part. A wonderful headphone experience for appreciators of Lifelover, Amesoeurs, Alcest and Swans, perhaps. Mastered by Mell Dettmer (Sunn O)), Wolves In The Throne Room) and presented in beautiful, minimalist wrap around card sleeve and wallet. Limited edition of 500 copies only.

Shakey Moe Szyslak (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 10 January 2011 01:56 (thirteen years ago) link

only 500 copies? Look for the 2011 reissue and a chance to vote for it again next year.

no pop, no style -- all simply (Viceroy), Monday, 10 January 2011 01:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Titan and Angelic Process started off on Paradigms now look at them. So viceroy isn't that far off (if a band takes off)

Paradigms is a great label and I need to order 5 or 6 of the latest releases I hadn't got round to yet.

aldo to thread!

Shakey Moe Szyslak (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 10 January 2011 02:01 (thirteen years ago) link

OK this next one will be the last one for tonight. Will resume about 1 or 2pm (UK time) approx.

"ILM Metal 2010 Album Poll - Results Rollout" would be a perfectly good thread title.

glenn mcdonald, Monday, 10 January 2011 02:21 (thirteen years ago) link

It's no sillier than Pazz & Jop!

Shakey Moe Szyslak (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 10 January 2011 02:23 (thirteen years ago) link

No, it most certainly is sillier.

Dr. (Johnny Fever), Monday, 10 January 2011 02:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Who would have though death metal/grindcore/heavy metal fans with all those bandnames and album covers and tshirts would be grossed out with a thread title!
Very LOL to me.

Of all people! haha

Shakey Moe Szyslak (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 10 January 2011 02:28 (thirteen years ago) link

It's just... immature. Reinforces people's stereotypes of metal fans.

Doomsday Derelict (J3ff T.), Monday, 10 January 2011 02:31 (thirteen years ago) link

A big two-fingered salute to that kind of person anyway.

Shakey Moe Szyslak (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 10 January 2011 02:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Okay, that's fine, but none of the metal fans on here seem to think it's very funny either.

Doomsday Derelict (J3ff T.), Monday, 10 January 2011 02:33 (thirteen years ago) link

Will more people post and check out albums if it gets changed?

Shakey Moe Szyslak (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 10 January 2011 02:35 (thirteen years ago) link

tbh I only clicked on this thread because it is called Jizz & Poop

The Brainwasher, Monday, 10 January 2011 02:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Anyway feel free to pass comments on those 5 albums and make your predictions & wishes for what you hope to place/not place etc , but please don't disclose details of your ballots, you can do that once the poll is over.

Shakey Moe Szyslak (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 10 January 2011 03:36 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm gonna go ahead and make the shocking prediction that Agalloch gets the #1 spot.

and since ilxor lives in the usa he doesnt have to pay $20 shipping like us not in north america.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 8 February 2011 22:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Shipping is the worst part actually, as to send it to the UK it can cost more than the actual record. Americans dont realise how good they got it!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 10 February 2011 23:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Anyone here ever pick up good old metal vinyl bargains?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 11 February 2011 09:56 (thirteen years ago) link

I have a friend who had a rulke he would never spend more than $20 including shipping on metal vinyl and in the space of only a couple of years he has many, many hundreds of LPs. I used to buy metal vinyl for $2-5. Although I stopped some time ago (and then lost everything when the basement flooded) I had several hundred elpees, mostly all used and cheap. I cannot imagine things have changed that much.. I mean, I had tons of Anvil records for $3 each!

NYCNative, Friday, 11 February 2011 17:25 (thirteen years ago) link

One assumes he was American?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 11 February 2011 17:49 (thirteen years ago) link

One assumes correctly however since we were convincing ilxor and he lives here...

NYCNative, Friday, 11 February 2011 19:12 (thirteen years ago) link

Lucky him, shipping is such a killer now since prices doubled

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 19:17 (thirteen years ago) link

So far my greatest discovery from this poll has been Cathedral. Thanks to those who voted for them.

o. nate, Tuesday, 22 February 2011 03:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Yay! My favorite metal record of last year. Glad you're enjoying it in all its craziness.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 22 February 2011 03:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, I totally dig the 70s stoner-hippy grooviness. It's weird because I was like 3 when music like that was popular, but it just sounds right to my ears - must have been subconsciously imprinted on my brain as an infant.

o. nate, Tuesday, 22 February 2011 03:44 (thirteen years ago) link

me too. Maybe just being alive in the 70s was enough; I had rust-colored bell bottoms, after all.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 22 February 2011 03:50 (thirteen years ago) link

I haven't gotten into disc 2 as much yet - it seems more 'normal' stoner/doom metal - but disc 1 has been in heavy rotation lately.

one month passes...

i'm just now hearing that quest for fire record—more satisfying than i sometimes find psych recommendations. it's pretty fucking heavy and serious, though not in a black sabbath/bardo pond heaviness sense, just a very solid and unrelenting low end and not a lot of guitar psych bendiness up top.
