I think Neil is getting a kick out of my radio station on last fm

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 15:56 (fifteen years ago) link

New charts are up, with Kanye at the top
http://www.last.fm/group/ilXor/charts

The Lex can rejoin now.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 15:58 (fifteen years ago) link

And radiohead didnt get top track either http://www.last.fm/group/ilXor/charts?charttype=weekly&subtype=track&range=205
ilx love for radiohead is over?

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 16:01 (fifteen years ago) link

am indeed enjoying your station, pfunkboy. Currently playing "Krautrock" by Faust!

Neil S, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Any ILXors listen to mainly hip hop? I'm looking to diversify...

Neil S, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 16:54 (fifteen years ago) link

how do those charts work? surely it can't be by plays

k3vin k., Tuesday, 2 December 2008 16:57 (fifteen years ago) link

Yes indeed, if you're talking about charts on user's profiles.

Neil S, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 16:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Must stop using the word "indeed".

Neil S, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 16:58 (fifteen years ago) link

no i mean for the group. like for example kanye is leading with like 56 or something. that can't be plays...is that 56 members?

k3vin k., Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:25 (fifteen years ago) link

I was wondering about that as well. I'm a member of the ILXor group, but I'm not sure my plays get scrobbled to the group charts automatically.

Why do ilxors listen to Radiohead so consistently?

Ringtone Tycoon (The Reverend), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 22:23 (fifteen years ago) link

most of them have pretty bad taste (the rest of the chart backs that up)

lex pretend, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 22:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Just to be clear, I'm not asking why so many ilxors listen to Radiohead, I'm asking why they listen to the 'head on such a consistent basis. It's not like they've just released a new album or anything.

Ringtone Tycoon (The Reverend), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 22:41 (fifteen years ago) link

oh i'm asking why they listen to radiohead at all. if nothing else surely you've got to be in rather a bleak place to do that regularly? i don't like to think of people being unhappy.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 23:07 (fifteen years ago) link

It may have something to do with the amount of live bootlegs around. I know i tend to listen to bootlegs of bands who i have been intoa long time (yes Radiohead are one such example, though i havent played them in a while)

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 23:21 (fifteen years ago) link

i don't listen to Radiohead enough.

Teahouse Foxtrot (blueski), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 23:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Btw have a look at the charts going back to 2006 http://www.last.fm/group/ilXor/charts . Radiohead werent always top.
The Knife Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo and The Rapture were very popular

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 23:27 (fifteen years ago) link

wazzap. I see my page got posted above but this is me:
http://www.last.fm/user/mcgarnickle

original bgm, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 23:27 (fifteen years ago) link

Belle & Sebastian seem more the consistently popular band on ILX.

btw if ilxors just queue up a playlist on shuffle chances are it will play 1 song by any of these popular acts. It only needs 1 play to get on the ilx chart. It doesn't mean people are listening to radiohead all the time, it might just be 1 track a week.

original bgm, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 00:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Kevin needs to listen to more doom/drone/arty farty metal to get super with us.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 00:30 (fifteen years ago) link

and to get not-so-super with 99% of the rest of the world.

original bgm, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 00:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Would you want to be super with 99% of the world?

...sometimes. :-/

original bgm, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 00:46 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't see why anyone would want everyone to have the same taste in music. Life would be boring.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 00:50 (fifteen years ago) link

Anyway Kevin still needs to listen to it.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 01:58 (fifteen years ago) link

k3vin k., Wednesday, 3 December 2008 02:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Well thats a start. If you like it check out some of their others, they are even better!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 12:28 (fifteen years ago) link

Kevin> most of their older albums have been reissued but I think you might like to start with the comeback album from 2 years ago "Special Wishes" Before you dive headlong into "Courtesy And Goodwill" which is their arty masterpiece.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 15:48 (fifteen years ago) link

okay, that's probably good advice, thanks. i'll try to get around to it soon
