Hopefully by then, I'll be ready to answer this.

tell ya I ain't gonna decide right away, but for me it's between "Yeah Yeah You Would" for that chorus and bridge, "Looking for Love" for its sterility, and that awesome coda where Usher lets loose, or "Ass on the Floor" for the synth washes, the melody, and the percussiveness.
can't decide yet.

right now i'd go with "yeah yeah you would" for the sweeping drama
i think the point of these threads, or at least how i've found them useful, is to catalyze discussion after the original album thread has died down. idk what the point iz of having two going on the same thing when the first is still going strong

"Ass On the Floor" has been the best overall song for me. Kalenna has a great atonal, Grace Jones like lead that just personifies the whole pissed off mood of the song. I'm also shocked by Swizz Beatz's use of the clear percussive sound of the marching drum. I never recalled him using that sound before and I hope he doesn't use it again as it will strip away the uniqueness of the song.
Also for some odd reason, when Kalenna and Dawn sing in harmony on the refrain:
Baby I want you to need meI need you to want me, I want you to love me forever
with the synths flowing is aural heaven in my earbuds/headphones.
And Diddy was decent only for the smoking weed listening to Sade part.

That snare is from Pon De Floor by Major Lazer, and just made me want to listen to Pon De Floor frankly. The rest of the song just kind of sits damply on top of that snare, no song called Ass On The Floor should be this limp.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 6 January 2011 09:33 (thirteen years ago) link
matt, i got your text yesterday about this album sounding limp just as i was falling asleep, and frankly i thought i was imagining it. this album limp?!?!

I've posted in a bit more detail on the other thread. It is limp though.
Keeping it positive on this thread, it's either I Hate That You Love Me or Strobe Lights for me.

if Swizz Beatz actually sampled a drum sound originated by Diplo (if that's possible!) then barf

― tears of a self-clowning oven (The Reverend), Thursday, 6 January 2011 17:28 (thirteen years ago) link
They might just use the same source sample, but in the UK Pon De Floor has impacted way, way wider than pretty much everything else Diplo has done. It may be Diplo but it's not just a hipster touchstone, and Diddy knows his club music and I'd be very surprised if he hadn't heard Pon De Floor.

haha xps!!!
― lex diamonds (lex pretend), Thursday, 6 January 2011 19:04 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah but all of the talk about "Pon De Floor" has automatically reverted to talk about Diplo when both of them were involved in the Major Lazer stuff (altho if there's a breakdown somewhere about who specifically produced what and Diplo was the one responsible for "Pon De Floor", fair enough; I assumed Switch had a hand in it do to rhythmic pulse similarities to the bassline in "Bamboo Banger")
xp: lol it's that part of the thread where everyone posts the same idea at the same time

All the important bits of "Pon De Floor" are by Afrojack actually. Major Lazer just dressed it up a bit (e.g. adding Vybz).
― Tim F, Thursday, 6 January 2011 22:08 (thirteen years ago) link
That's one reason why it feels like such an important record, it short-circuits mainstream clubbing and frankendance so efficiently.

i don't get why they reversed the track order on the deluxe, "Yeah Yeah You Would" makes much more sense as the opener, so I reset it that way on my player. "Ass on the Floor" is perfectly placed as the third.
