they are a fantastic pair of shoes imo. price is a bit high for me but if you've got the cash, splash it! that's my motto, word for word.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Saturday, 1 January 2011 16:12 (thirteen years ago) link

that motto again was "if you've got the cash, splash it!"

Yeah, as I said above, definitely like them, just wondering if they will go well with a suit. Would be the most expensive shoes I ever bought but combination of gift card + discount makes them affordable.

Actually I think they might look sharp as hell with a charcoal suit. Fuck it I'm going back to try them on.

These are the Rachel Comey's I've been lusting over, but I do not have this kind of cash to splash

you'll find a way to wear them, even if it means buying new stuff.

Bought 'em. Fuck yeah.

pomp la familia (Hurting 2), Thursday, 6 January 2011 04:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Thing is after all the fuss I made they really didn't look that unusual with a suit when I tried them on. Just a nice-looking well-made dress shoe with subtly different detailing.

those comey's are similar to the edward green oxfords that i got for xmas

Hopefully my outer 27-yr-old does not look like a sillypants in them (tbh I am not actually worried abt that)

I think the time frame for continuing to wear these in AZ is two weeks, max.

Would love a pair of boots that were gray like that.

The ~air technology~ was a genuine surprise when I bought a pair of Air Max 1's some years back in high-school. I looked upon them - and the little "peak window" into the sole - as gimmicky and pretentious... til of course I wore them. Really have been the most comfortable shoes I've owned yet.

I still refuse to wear Nike nowaday tho.

yeah (kelpolaris), Thursday, 10 March 2011 03:30 (thirteen years ago) link

This will be my first pair of Nikes in many many years. In college I was very adamant about the sweatshop labor thing. Now it feels like you don't really have a choice, plus I think chinese working conditions have probably improved slightly due to the overall economic boom they've experienced.

what do you recommend as proper summer shoes for men, you know with shorts and all. i've always gone with either vans or chucks. i dont do flip flops.

The Scenario (chrisv2010), Thursday, 10 March 2011 14:28 (thirteen years ago) link

In my opinion, you've got it covered. I'm sure max will be here any moment, though, to tell you that top hats for your feet are the new way forward.

and the day i wear topsiders again. wtf is that shit.

i blame vampire weekend.

The Scenario (chrisv2010), Thursday, 10 March 2011 14:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Vans are officially the stinkiest shoes I have ever owned. Why I kept wearing them (several pairs over several summers) I have no idea.

Madchen, Thursday, 10 March 2011 15:53 (thirteen years ago) link

chris 1) i want to congratulate you on never wearing flip flops, which are the absolute worst, 2) laurel is right, i highly recommend top hats

max, Thursday, 10 March 2011 17:05 (thirteen years ago) link

10 of them, one for each toe

max, Thursday, 10 March 2011 17:06 (thirteen years ago) link

er - birkenstocks are great, great summer shoes. i've had 3 pairs and have absolutely loved them, but i def get shit from friends for being so fond of them in the first place.

yeah, should note that i've never gotten the clog types. those are fukkin revolting.

yeah (kelpolaris), Thursday, 10 March 2011 17:13 (thirteen years ago) link

^ NEVER. Unless you are an mid 60's artist with a ponytail and tiedye shirt, berkenstock should not be worn.

The Scenario (chrisv2010), Thursday, 10 March 2011 17:13 (thirteen years ago) link

You don't need me for this Birks take-down, do you? No? Good. I'm old and easily tired, and public floggings just don't promise the excitement that they used to.

go peddle your bullshit somewhere else sister (Laurel), Thursday, 10 March 2011 17:14 (thirteen years ago) link

they just look like plain-jane leather sandles to me. could never figure out reason for the uproar behind them.

not like i'm wearing crocs.

yeah (kelpolaris), Thursday, 10 March 2011 17:15 (thirteen years ago) link

crocenstocks

onitsuka tigers are a pretty good lightweight shoe for the summer - really thin, let your feet breathe

^^otm!

Buff Orpington (Abbbottt), Thursday, 10 March 2011 23:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Never got that whole concept of "letting your feet breathe". I had a pair of Vans - literally consisting of nothing but cloth - that turned out to be the soppiest, sweatiest shoes I've ever owned.

yeah (kelpolaris), Thursday, 10 March 2011 23:49 (thirteen years ago) link

canvas? canvas doesn't really breathe i dont think

Slow lorax loves getting tickled (dayo), Friday, 11 March 2011 00:11 (thirteen years ago) link

idk man, some days I'm like "fuck sandals" and some days I'm like "fuck people who take themselves too seriously" because sandals feel amazingly good on a warm day.

for real molars who ain't got no fillings (Hurting 2), Friday, 11 March 2011 00:19 (thirteen years ago) link

I feel like if you get a good classy pair of say leather flipflops it looks okay and not too bad, fuck those polyester foam 50 diff colored ones thogh

Slow lorax loves getting tickled (dayo), Friday, 11 March 2011 00:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah I have leather bible sandals -- slightly birkenstockish but teva/naot brand. I occasionally get shit for them. I would like to find some kind of soft, breathable alternative (I also hate getting the sandal tan).

VegemiteGrrl, Friday, 11 March 2011 00:41 (thirteen years ago) link

http://moccsocks.myshopify.com/ - these are bitching for summer sneakers. No more having to go sockless to not look ridiculous.

the chuck taylor slip-ons are pretty great. i bought mine a half size too big and can put them on without bending over. i haven't worn them without socks, so not sure how stinky they get. all of the anti-open-toe ppl so, so, otm

xp I think women have been wearing those forever - except they call them shoeliners
