I find the Harvey Karp white noise CD very helpful.

The video was kinda meh though and I wasn't going to bother with the book at that point.

Maybe I should start a noise band called Harvey Karp

You should totally play songs called "Fast Hair Drier - Frantic Babies" and "Moderate - Gradual Calm" if you do.

it'd be interesting -- like a kids noise band? we'd play shows and all the babies would just pass out.

Well only if they were properly swaddled.

My daughter HATED being swaddled, shaken - all that stuff, so a lot of his advise felt like pie in the sky and unrealistic. The white noise totally worked for a while though.

our baby loved the swaddling (at least for a while), but the shaking thing never seemed to work quite right for us. the shushing thing worked pretty well.

My baby will literally wake himself up almost instantaneously if not swaddled so I have swaddling to thank for me actually sleeping at night. White noise has also been awesome. Football holding is basically nonsense as far as I can tell and shaking also seems to have limited utility.

i dunno, just with toddlerhood coming, it seemed like i needed to get acquainted with some of the stuff that is ahead

I sort of feel the same way but I'm just lazy I guess? I've browsed a few of these but something about the tone always puts me off.

I was constantly reading baby books in the first year, but not as much, now that Chloe is 17 months. Seems like everything is more intuitive now. TBH, I mainly reach for them now when she gets sick or if I need to figure out how to address something specifically.
