Rocket Space Machine formed in November of 2008 in San Francisco, California. The band, consisting of Austin Becker (vocals, guitar) Justin Mussman (bass, samples) and Zachariah Peterson (drums), gathered forces when they realized a common interest in metaphysical philosophy and intention-based sound manipulation. Over the span of a year the band found it's voice, and it's as if the name they had chosen to represent themselves manifested through the sound unconsciously... mocking itself. Understanding that they possessed a strength in a genre that could be described as "Space Rock", the band honed in on a lineup of songs that display power, diversity and dynamics. The vocals in Rocket Space Machine integrate a unique melodic structure into progressive guitar rhythms. The bass and synth create the band's "nautical-noir meets outer space pulsations" atmosphere, while the drums seem to obsessively emulate a drum-machine... leading the listener to wonder if the beats were programmed. Themes that are touched upon in the band's songs range from the contemplation of the development of molecules in the universe, to the reflection of impurities in the mind. Combined with the urgency and meditative finesse that is found in Rocket Space Machine's sound, it's easy to see that this is a band who knows exactly what they're looking for and are achieving it with heart. The band is currently in the studio working on their first EP. Many good things are on the horizon for Rocket Space Machine. Look for them to be performing at venues in and around the San Francisco Bay Area.

I awways thought "Air" would be a great name for a band because, what more boring? (Also, what more necessary, but - aside from air scientists [de facto boring people, true fact] - who wants to spend more than 2.5 seconds thinking about it?)

And then it became one.
