HAVING A JOB - not at all important except as a means to an end, tho a vocation would be nice
TRAVEL - not necessarily important, but useful in terms of personal development
RUNNING A MARATHON - self-aggrandizement
ATTAINING ENLIGHTENMENT - enlightenment is a phony concept, one part delusion, two parts smugness
WRITING A NOVEL - there are a lot of books out there. are you capable of contributing more than just another paperback atop the teetering stack? if not, do us a favour and don't bother. if so, this is a tremendously important cultural contribution. if you are not sure, do the other 4 things first and you might have a better handle on it.

i guess striving for enlightenment is a great thing to dedicate yourself to, but the notion that it is something that is actually attainable seems so weirdly arrogant to me that i shake my damn eyes @ it, that notion. no offence intended to buddhists or secular fans of enlightenment.
