In any other week I would feel bad that the evil Giants showed up, because I like the Giants a lot, but this week I am pretty happy this is happening.

great play by peytey

call all destroyer, Monday, 27 December 2010 00:10 (thirteen years ago) link

He only does that about once every three years, right?

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:11 (thirteen years ago) link

i seriously can't remember ever seeing him do that and i am basically his stalker

Singletary will not return next year as 49ers head coach, according to "sources within the team"

Maltodextrin, Monday, 27 December 2010 00:20 (thirteen years ago) link

what about his wooden cross?

BIG SANTA aka the sleighdriver (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Demoted to Linebacker coach.

Peter King just said Andrew Luck's probably not going to enter the draft. Sorry, Panthers. You're still screwed.

Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to give Clausen a shot or sign a veteran QB and focus on rebuilding all the other broken parts of the team.

bad part of giants implosion is that every step of their meltdown brings bill cowher closer to coaching them and not us next year.

unless the panthers are the absolute worst team in the nfl for the next two years, it would suck pretty hard for them to miss out on luck

BIG SANTA aka the sleighdriver (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:36 (thirteen years ago) link

Heard the Giants aren't as interested in Cowher as Cowher is in the Giants.

interesting. do these super-insider "sources" include the homeless guy that bill parcells used to consult before choosing draft picks for the dolphins?

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 27 December 2010 00:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Wow, that Football Night in America set is BEAUTIFUL

Maltodextrin, Monday, 27 December 2010 00:38 (thirteen years ago) link

i mean clausen is young yeah... but the guy's qb rating is in the 50s right now, i think most rookie qbs show it off in their first year

BIG SANTA aka the sleighdriver (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:38 (thirteen years ago) link

i would be wary of any coach that has been out of the league for 2/3 years

BIG SANTA aka the sleighdriver (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:38 (thirteen years ago) link

The more exterior shots they show of Philly, the more I wish the game was being played tonight. SNOW BOWL FOR THE AGES!

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:39 (thirteen years ago) link

The last guy I'd want to hire is a guy like Bill Cowher who's been on vacation for the last four years.

I Am Kurious Assange (polyphonic), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:39 (thirteen years ago) link

meh. i mean, there's a low success rate for super-bowl winning coaches with their second team, but cowher is a really good, well-respected coach.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 27 December 2010 00:40 (thirteen years ago) link

I honestly don't think the Dolphins' problems are (wholly) coaching related, fwiw. Sporano is quality. It's Henne + a few other broken parts.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:41 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't think cowher is another shanahan

call all destroyer, Monday, 27 December 2010 00:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Most, but not all of them. Give the kid some weapons and some veteran competition.

Totally agree. I like Sparano.

I Am Kurious Assange (polyphonic), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:42 (thirteen years ago) link

i think sparano is a good head coach too, if maybe a tad conservative at times -- they need a new offensive coordinator first and foremost, and need to improve some position groups

BIG SANTA aka the sleighdriver (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, he needs an upgrade at offensive coordinator.

I Am Kurious Assange (polyphonic), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:43 (thirteen years ago) link

tommy's suit looking choice once again at the post-game presser

BIG SANTA aka the sleighdriver (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:45 (thirteen years ago) link

i mean, the dolphins have been disappointing this year yes, but the guy also won the division the year after inheriting a 1-16 team. cycling thru coaches is not a sustainable or desirable model

BIG SANTA aka the sleighdriver (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:47 (thirteen years ago) link

tru

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 27 December 2010 00:48 (thirteen years ago) link

Texans are really the best option for a Bill Cowher. They have a good roster, good stadium, good owners...they just need that little extra oomph.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:49 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i could see that -- and he could prob just enough out of that defense

BIG SANTA aka the sleighdriver (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:51 (thirteen years ago) link

GET just enough

BIG SANTA aka the sleighdriver (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:51 (thirteen years ago) link

nyg just as good, if not better, situation for cowher.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 27 December 2010 00:52 (thirteen years ago) link

but texas a good spot, too.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 27 December 2010 00:52 (thirteen years ago) link

Big difference is who wants him. Texans clearly will. Giants appear to be looking elsewhere.

"Quarterback Joe Webb was walking around with Vikings bedroom slippers"

Maltodextrin, Monday, 27 December 2010 00:54 (thirteen years ago) link

cowher's good but i think it has to be said that in tha 'sburgh he really benefited from some of the best football operations in the league - he also phoned in his last year w/the steelers due to not giving a fuck. if you get him you better make sure he wants to be there and isnt just looking for a payday (and i think he understands this too, to be fair, which is why he hasn't been in a hurry to leave broadcasting - an easy check that lets him spend tons of time with his family)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMf0MTweXYc (Princess TamTam), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:55 (thirteen years ago) link

Uh oh, now that the Saban-to-Cowboys rumors have officially been declared "unfounded," I find myself worrying.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:55 (thirteen years ago) link

xp yeah that definitely needs to be said

call all destroyer, Monday, 27 December 2010 00:56 (thirteen years ago) link

worrying about waht?!? EXCELLENT RUMOR: saban to cowboys!

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 27 December 2010 00:57 (thirteen years ago) link

As a lifelong Tide fan, DO NOT WANT

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:58 (thirteen years ago) link

hey, listen, saban is a tough disciplinarian, a good coach, a star, someone who will inevitably be the next great nfl coach. take that from a team who knows. dallas cowboys, opportunity is knocking.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 27 December 2010 00:59 (thirteen years ago) link

the team president/CEO Jed York basically came out and said as much after the game.

Maltodextrin, Monday, 27 December 2010 01:03 (thirteen years ago) link

nick saban's available, for the right price.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 27 December 2010 01:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Well, even if Saban leaves, I think Alabama has learned from the post-Stallings era that you can't just make do with some schlub (or some former qb with the last name Shula) and keep winning just because you're Alabama. They'll go after another big fish.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Monday, 27 December 2010 01:05 (thirteen years ago) link

are there looming sanctions against the tide? that seems like a scenario saban would try to escape. otherwise, he seems like a prototype college -- not pro -- coach.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 27 December 2010 01:08 (thirteen years ago) link

Nothing that I know of. After the sanctions from the DuBose years that crippled UA for years (and undoubtedly led Dennis Franchione to bolt for Texas A&M after two seasons...sucka!), they're keeping a really short leash on the boosters.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Monday, 27 December 2010 01:10 (thirteen years ago) link

saban runs a clean program -- he would bolt for one reason & one reason only: his ego. bama will pay him about as much as any college can possibly pay a coach, and he's got a seemingly unstoppable program there. the only thing you can't account for is if it gnaws at him that he was a failure in the nfl or if the competitor in him feels like college isn't satisfying him anymore -- see: pete carroll

BIG SANTA aka the sleighdriver (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 December 2010 01:15 (thirteen years ago) link

the timing of carroll's departure was kind of obvious but i think he was going to return to the nfl at some point
