At first, I was all "what a rip-off!" But it turns out that Vaughan Oliver actually did create this for the band, in which case I say "you're repeating yourself, sir!"

i like the asobi seksu cover but it SCREAMS early 90s pale saints, lush, his name is alive, etc. + anything 4AD (which is precisely why it succeeds)

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Monday, 20 December 2010 15:19 (thirteen years ago) link

does even the streets care about the streets anymore?

I must confess the PJ Harvey first brought to mind:

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 01:03 (thirteen years ago) link

The Toro y Moi is awesome, sexy and Cronenberg's The Fly at once. That tangerine or whatever that is looks like totally hot gross guy eating some poor live aquatic thing, it's disturbing. And those colors!

Umm, I think that's my glass. (laser precise purpose maker era), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 01:04 (thirteen years ago) link

the asobi cover is totally phoned in, it's sad when a great designer does something that looks like a parody of their own work

This might be slightly overdistressed, but I still dig the feel of it.

Is that Streets cover a photo of the Zigguart halls of residence at the UEA?

Darren Huckerby (Dwight Yorke), Sunday, 9 January 2011 18:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Hate the Toro y Moi.

Like this one:

blank, Monday, 10 January 2011 03:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Ha, it appears the cover of the Streets album was taken at my alma mater.

that's uea, no? it's kinda as unspectacular a photo as you could take of the pyramids, if so.

schlump, Monday, 10 January 2011 13:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, it's UEA. I actually quite like the cover, divorced of context.

Posted mainly bcs of thing that struck me on playing the album for 1st time on way to work this morning: cover works well enough seen on small handheld phone-type device.

that's not the panda bear cover by the way

mizzell, Saturday, 15 January 2011 00:38 (thirteen years ago) link

I didn't think it was. It's just a cropped photo.

I think the real Panda Bear cover is a charcoal drawing or something iirc.

the above > every potential album ocver panda has yet to consider

heh (kelpolaris), Saturday, 15 January 2011 00:58 (thirteen years ago) link

I love the hell out of that band, but their cover art continues to be ass.

Zsa Zsa Gay Bar (jaymc), Sunday, 16 January 2011 08:15 (thirteen years ago) link

i like both of those covers. wouldn't want to hear the iron & wine music and have that ruin my enjoyment of the cover, though. the seefeel cover makes me think the album's going to be ~~~fucking HEAVY~~~ (looks like a metal cover!), would love for that to be true...

looks like a graphic from late bbc2 favourite 'business lunch'

which i guess kinda works if they think they can still make bitter snipes at commodity fetishism after work as industry execs etc for 30 years

I get that his brand of techno can be described as muscular but this is too much.

"only girl in the kitchen" (boxedjoy), Friday, 18 November 2011 12:54 (twelve years ago) link

haha what does that cover have to do with 'muscular'

rockapads, Friday, 18 November 2011 17:09 (twelve years ago) link

It looks to me like he's trying to show off as he looks into the light, "look at my bicep".
