rolling stone, #13 & popmatters country list

zvookster, Monday, 20 December 2010 00:06 (thirteen years ago) link

didn't see the popmatters country. #13 in rolling stone seems begrudging, but ok.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Monday, 20 December 2010 00:07 (thirteen years ago) link

don't see what's begrudging abt it. the 17 acts that placed behind her must be begrudged to the max.

zvookster, Monday, 20 December 2010 00:10 (thirteen years ago) link

rs has always reviewed her well

Fuck yeah, way to big-up the Julie Christmas

buzzoff (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 20 December 2010 17:31 (thirteen years ago) link

That is a great list.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 20 December 2010 17:33 (thirteen years ago) link

Thanks, it's a relief to be done. If I spent any more time re-listening and reconsidering most of those albums, I'd go crazy. Time for the annual massage to fix my neck. Since last night I've already learned about six more albums I would have liked to have considered, but I'm done. Apologies for anyone fond of the Grinch. I couldn't resist.

Fastnbulbous, Monday, 20 December 2010 17:57 (thirteen years ago) link

um, the grinch is a mean one iirc

buzzoff (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 20 December 2010 18:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Seriously though, great list. Ufomammut is def gonna make mine.

Ooh yeah! Thanx! Do you have an album list anywhere?

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:29 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm trying to figure out where to post my top 100 or 150 or however many it is albums. (Not gonna start a blog or even an ILM thread just for that purpose, but I want to put it somewhere. Maybe I'll just make it a comment on somebody else's blog, or something.)

xhuxk, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:42 (thirteen years ago) link

start a thread here for it! and then start a blog.

scott seward, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah xhuxk just paste it here.

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:46 (thirteen years ago) link

Nah, that's not what this thread is for. I'm not a poll! Or even a magazine.

My extended singles list is such a mess I'm not even gonna attempt it. (I.e., the order's all out of whack, and hurts my head whenever I start trying to fix it, and in the past month or two I haven't even been adding new singles I liked. There's just been too many, and callibrating is starting to feel like work. Did manage a good P&J top ten, though.)

xhuxk, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh pshaw. Just do it. Besides, don't you remember that rare X-Ray Spex b-side "Xhuxk is a Poll"?

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:48 (thirteen years ago) link

Wherever you end up posting it, make sure you let us know, that is one I'll really want to see. I think you should start a thread about the blog you'll start to generate buzz website you've created that will provide links to where we can buy the book you'll publish which will feature the list you've compiled.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 20 December 2010 18:48 (thirteen years ago) link

i think we should let anyone with the balls/deeplisteningskills to do a top 100 like chuck, matos or fastnbulb to post in this thread

Mine is coming Jan 3, btw :)

if the thread is opening up to individual critics posting their own lists, here are my top 50 singles:

http://narrowcast.blogspot.com/2010/12/top-50-singles-of-2010.html

warning: lots of cheesy pop stuff that makes whiney reflexively go "just SB'd/unfollowed you for liking that song"

some dude, Monday, 20 December 2010 21:13 (thirteen years ago) link

i love everything i know from that list (about 20% of it, naturally) and am really thrilled w/ all the youtube links: that's one of my favorite year-end formats, when i can quickly click over and check out the stuff i haven't yet heard

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Monday, 20 December 2010 21:28 (thirteen years ago) link

Love deej's choice for number one album. Probably my most listened to rap album from the year, but not hard when theres just so many songs.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 20 December 2010 21:30 (thirteen years ago) link

JAG (I collated it) but the SOMB list is probably in it's most interesting stage (below 40) and is being counted down right now.

Has ridiculous stats like average age of voters for records etc http://www.soundopinions.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=23758

Mitchell Stirling, Monday, 20 December 2010 21:32 (thirteen years ago) link

al's list is fun to read but i lol @ how many blurbs they are that are like "i hate this artist & everything involved w/ him, but this was p. good"

*plop*ism rules (deej), Monday, 20 December 2010 21:34 (thirteen years ago) link

lol yeah that probably is a pattern i could stand to avoid more

some dude, Monday, 20 December 2010 21:34 (thirteen years ago) link

i think that's how singles lists kind of should be, though, moments where you can divorce yourself from feelings about the artist and just enjoy the song

some dude, Monday, 20 December 2010 21:35 (thirteen years ago) link

oh i dunno its interesting bcuz you center around the charts a lot more than i do, so i miss out on decent singles by often-garbage artists ... good to have someone sorting thru the crap lol

*plop*ism rules (deej), Monday, 20 December 2010 21:36 (thirteen years ago) link

xp yeah
