Best John Entwistle-penned Who song

It's not the Who without Entwistle. On the recent rerelease of the Kids Are Alright DVD, there is a special feature where you can watch the "Ox-Cam" performances of Baba O Reilly and Won't Get Fooled Again. It's just a camera on him, and the sound is just his bass. It's utterly mind-blowing how awesome the guy was.

I don't think Heaven and Hell was on the original Leeds release, I could be wrong.

I've just checked, and it wasn't. They used it as a show opener a lot during that period though. It was the first number they played at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970. Did Hendrix play on the same day? Even if he didn't it's likely that he still heard the song somewhere.

"heaven & hell" was first played live starting from the summer of 1968, usually in the middle of the set. they opened all of their 1969-1970 shows with it. the studio recording of the song was first released as the b-side to the live "summertime blues" from leeds in the spring of 1970. so hendrix most likely heard the song a few times.

"Silas Stingy" is wonderfully twee, so I voted for that one. Not a big fan of his songs in general though.

I do have to shout out for that Tipton, Entwistle, & Powell record though. It's worth the 99 cent used bin price just to hear Entwistle cutting loose.

Heaven and Hell was robbed. This is an outrage.

Marsh wrote something to the effect that "Heaven and Hell" is the rocker's ultimate wish. Great song, but I think I voted for "Whiskey Man" in the end. I put it on a mix tape once that wound up in Billy Bragg's hands.

That mix tape would've been a lot better if it had started with "Heaven and Hell". (Though Billy Bragg wouldn't have ever noticed that.)
