GIRL BE WATCHIN SOME TV!!!

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 00:43 (nineteen years ago) link

watching your wife with TIVO has made MY WIFE want TIVO!

does she like the show?

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 00:47 (nineteen years ago) link

guh, she likes the show a lot.

KYLE, DO NOT SUCCOMB TO TIVO. IT IS THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE. MY WIFE HASN'T LEFT THE COUCH SINCE APRIL.

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 00:49 (nineteen years ago) link

Watch this tonight! 9/8c on UPN.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:49 (nineteen years ago) link

i will because you told me to

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:39 (nineteen years ago) link

It's not bad.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:43 (nineteen years ago) link

Is it ok to jump into the middle of the series, as opposed to watching them in proper sequence?

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 11 November 2004 17:24 (nineteen years ago) link

You'll probably be a bit confused, but I can get you caught up.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Thursday, 11 November 2004 17:29 (nineteen years ago) link

It's gonna be a midseason replacement on CTV, so I'll try to catch it if reminded of it. TV has not been my friend since the demise of the Buffyverse (that is, until 24 starts up again in January).

alex in montreal, Thursday, 11 November 2004 17:35 (nineteen years ago) link

i forgot to watch it.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 11 November 2004 17:41 (nineteen years ago) link

:(

Melissa W (Melissa W), Thursday, 11 November 2004 17:42 (nineteen years ago) link

one month passes...
I downloaded this. i watched it. good stuff.

Chip shop (Danny), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:43 (nineteen years ago) link

Nice timing, my download of the first episode just finished.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 23:28 (nineteen years ago) link

i have 10 episodes now, i got my first about three days ago. addictive.

Jeffrey (Danny), Thursday, 23 December 2004 00:21 (nineteen years ago) link

No great shakes. Does it get better than the pilot?

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 23 December 2004 07:31 (nineteen years ago) link

It does get better than the pilot but some episodes are still patchy. overall story arc seems like it will be good and the flashbacks are interwoven well. The detective noir angle is done well and when the colours aren't overdone it's like cake fr yr eyes.

http://villagevoice.com/issues/0449/tv.php

"pulses with promise" is about right. Good character too, at least fr me.

Plus i was reading this thread, Why do I not get, care for, and in fact utterly disdain Buffy et al? while i was watching some episodes which implanted buffy in my brain. Now i think veronica mars is the first Post-Buffy show i have seen. there are probably already ones anyway, i miss a lot of tv. post-buffy is a pretty crap term.

err, Mel W to thread?

chip shop (Danny), Thursday, 23 December 2004 08:55 (nineteen years ago) link

I just saw this last Tuesday, it's great!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 15 January 2005 20:59 (nineteen years ago) link

i couldn't tell if I liked it or hated it. that girl is all hard edges and kind of difficult to take; like sarah michelle gellar w/out anything likable. the tone was kind of uneven and fakey at times and that bothered me. I'll probably watch it again though

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 15 January 2005 22:54 (nineteen years ago) link

Which episode did you watch?

Some have been more uneven than others.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Sunday, 16 January 2005 00:06 (nineteen years ago) link

the secret society/fake id one

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 16 January 2005 00:08 (nineteen years ago) link

I agree with tracer hand!

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 16 January 2005 00:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Ooh, Alyson Hannigan is going to be playing Logan's sister!

Melissa W (Melissa W), Sunday, 16 January 2005 00:35 (nineteen years ago) link

Hmm, CTV still has it listed as Winter 2005 but no specifics on when/whether it's gonna be playing soon. All these references to Buffy are surely going to lead me to some sort of letdown.

alex in montreal, Monday, 17 January 2005 01:54 (nineteen years ago) link

i agree with saying this is good

qbert (Danny), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 21:09 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah?

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 21:15 (nineteen years ago) link

seriously.

qbert (Danny), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 21:17 (nineteen years ago) link

This thread needs to be updated constantly so I can check out the CTV website to see when they'll decide to put it on.

alex in montreal, Wednesday, 26 January 2005 21:58 (nineteen years ago) link

I might start watching it again once Amazing Race is done.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 22:06 (nineteen years ago) link

do it.

qbert (Danny), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 23:22 (nineteen years ago) link

I agree with melissa, this is actually pretty great.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 14 February 2005 13:45 (nineteen years ago) link

it is completely darker than it lets on too. the dream-scenes with dead lilly kane in sickly green tint are disturbing. but the rest too.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 14 February 2005 13:47 (nineteen years ago) link

I keep trying to convince everyone I know to watch this show but I've had little luck. It's like dawsons creek/twin peaks/ nancy drew all in one. Also, it seems like my favorite character is the big asshole (logan). Therefore it MUST be good.

gunther heartymeal (Homosexual II), Monday, 14 February 2005 16:18 (nineteen years ago) link

and it better get a second season. maybe the appearance of allyson hannigan will get all the buffy fans on the bandwagon.

gunther heartymeal (Homosexual II), Monday, 14 February 2005 16:19 (nineteen years ago) link

Yay! More converts!

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 14 February 2005 16:38 (nineteen years ago) link

yay! I watched the first episode not knowing what to expect and I was so pleasantly surprised. Super good. I love the way it's filmed too, something about the camera angles. when logan told off his dad in the school we could practically see up his NOSTRILS. I was also happy during the episode "clash of the tritons" because I suddenly realized that harry hamlin was in CLASH OF THE TITANS. ok, i'm done.

gunther heartymeal, Monday, 14 February 2005 16:44 (nineteen years ago) link

"dude, where's your car?" haha!

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 14 February 2005 17:12 (nineteen years ago) link

I like how they've managed finally, by chipping away, to make me believe in veronica's transition from pep squad valley girl to crime fighting PI assassin. there was an episode where I was completely bamboozled as to what was going on near the end (I figured it ws just bad (= rad) editing) (the episode where wanda & duncan run fr class president.)

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 14 February 2005 17:13 (nineteen years ago) link

i feel like it is never too late to reference that movie. or actually, it's just late enough to be FUNNY. kind of like being austin powers for halloween.

gunther heartymeal, Monday, 14 February 2005 17:14 (nineteen years ago) link

titans or dude?

story of my life.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 14 February 2005 17:16 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah...I like how veronica kind of mourns the loss of her pep squad persona but realizes that she could never be that girl again. the use of flashbacks are great. i want more from the character of DUNCAN though -- he is kind of wooden, definitely my least favorite. he needs to go off his pills and start seeing his dead sister again.

gunther heartymeal, Monday, 14 February 2005 17:20 (nineteen years ago) link

oh -- never too late to reference DUDE.

gunther heartymeal, Monday, 14 February 2005 17:21 (nineteen years ago) link

and can I say paris hilton as 'dead eyes, at the window above': classic cameo.

yeah it ws awesome when duncan starting hallucinating and backflip head-hitting leg-breaking sky diving off the bleachers because he WASN'T on pills rather than yknow on them.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 14 February 2005 17:22 (nineteen years ago) link

haha. he should have entered into the world of EXTREME SPORTS. paris is always a hilarious treat, i can't wait to see what her singing career brings. I also really liked the cult episode -- who can resist a veggie eating COMMUNE?

i actually am really excited for the allyson hannigan appearance. oh and logan and veronica working together -- yes.

gunther heartymeal, Monday, 14 February 2005 17:28 (nineteen years ago) link

I really like veronica mars you guys!!!

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 14 February 2005 22:34 (nineteen years ago) link

hey, me too! i might even love it. oh wait, i said that already. i think maybe you're just trying to keep this post alive. i can't wait to see her go head to head with her dad (who is just the best).

gunther heartymeal, Monday, 14 February 2005 22:39 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm just trying to bait melissa into posting more.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 14 February 2005 22:40 (nineteen years ago) link

enrico pantolinioni is the best YEAH!

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 14 February 2005 22:40 (nineteen years ago) link

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Sunday, 13 September 2020 15:53 (three years ago) link

Yep lol. Season 3 was a chore tbf, way too many subplots and new characters no one cared about.

Roz, Sunday, 13 September 2020 15:57 (three years ago) link

i remember preferring the third season to the second

i think 1 >>>> 4 > 3 > 2

i can't hate piz when he's so great in glee

i mean, er, glow

Chuck_Tatum, Sunday, 13 September 2020 16:14 (three years ago) link

iirc 2 mainly suffers from the long format season, so much filler and the stakes just go up and up and up until it's even more ridiculous than usual

unpaid intern at the darvo institute (Simon H.), Sunday, 13 September 2020 16:17 (three years ago) link

I would still take it over 3 tho

unpaid intern at the darvo institute (Simon H.), Sunday, 13 September 2020 16:17 (three years ago) link

all relationships on this show dwarfed completely by veronica and keith's. although i am fond of veronica/wallace early seasons friendship.

oscar bravo, Sunday, 13 September 2020 16:17 (three years ago) link

“They would all be eight-episode mysteries,” Thomas said about his vision for future seasons. “For Season 5 the ideas I have been noodling with have all been kind of Agatha Christie in that Murder In the Manor House sort of idea.

In my head this became Knives Out

kinder, Sunday, 13 September 2020 16:28 (three years ago) link

Oh yeah Glow totally rehabilitate pix for me.

dan selzer, Sunday, 13 September 2020 16:38 (three years ago) link

Logan is so f-ing tortured and hot in the movie. You can't blame her for throwing over bland NY guy even while your higher brain is going "NNNNOOOOOOO!" as she caroms right off a cliff.

There's more Italy than necessary. (in orbit), Sunday, 13 September 2020 16:43 (three years ago) link

I liked season 4's exploration of that aspect of the Veronica/Logan dynamic

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Sunday, 13 September 2020 17:23 (three years ago) link

yeah that was my favorite part of the whole season, novel and thoughtful

unpaid intern at the darvo institute (Simon H.), Sunday, 13 September 2020 18:07 (three years ago) link

Liz works for Ira Glass in the movie, right? He’s not even living in the same universe as Veronica

mh, Sunday, 13 September 2020 19:46 (three years ago) link

I haven’t seen 4 yet. But I loved s2, flawed as it may be. S3 tho... the feminists vs comedians stuff ... the dean who Veronica has to charm... that I’m supposed to care if piz gets a radio show... the weird Stanford prison thing ... the only good plot so far (I’m just a few eps in) is Keith at the cabin (RIP Kendall)

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Sunday, 13 September 2020 21:24 (three years ago) link

Also piz in the movie might as well be a plot device designed to irritate Veronica who clearly is better off w Logan chemistry

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Sunday, 13 September 2020 21:25 (three years ago) link

just now noticed my autocorrect issue. Liz was obviously meant to be Piz

mh, Sunday, 13 September 2020 21:29 (three years ago) link

S3 ended strong

S4 was A+ but that ending ... :( X infinity

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Friday, 18 September 2020 14:17 (three years ago) link

I kinda admire Rob Thomas for the honesty of directly admitting that he mainly killed off Logan cause he had no concept of how VM could be a continuing, interesting story if Veronica is happy/content

Simon H., Friday, 18 September 2020 15:30 (three years ago) link

Unfortunately he seems to have misjudged interest—Are we getting a season 5? Man reviews of s4 were way more scathing than i realized

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Friday, 18 September 2020 19:05 (three years ago) link

I though it was pretty good! Surprised so many people care about logan anyway, it’s not like he blew up Keith

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 18 September 2020 19:20 (three years ago) link

two years pass...

So we have been rewatching Veronica Mars sporadically as it's been on a channel here. Finally got around to re-watching the movie a couple of weeks ago.
Got a Lionsgate trial subscription to watch Party Down, and a ton of Mars Universe actors pop up in that, including Keith Mars.

The past few days, we decided to watch Contagion - thought it might be 'fun' after the pandemic. Anyway, Keith Mars again pops up in it, kinda weird.

Before ditching Lionsgate, thought we might as well watch Station Eleven (not yet convinced that was a good idea, not least right after Contagion). Anyway! Guess who rides up on a bike in that? Keith Mars again.
I'm not complaining, I like seeing him. It's just a bit like he's following us about.

I, Zombie too. Keith Mars actor shows up there also.

I, Zombie of course is another Rob Thomas show - pretty much all of the main veronica mars actors appeared on that show at some point

seven months pass...

I revisited high school romance comedy Drive Me Crazy, which I hadn't realized (but have now learned) was scripted by Rob Thomas. When it came out in November 1999, it was third in a series of similarly themed flicks that year – after She's All That and 10 Things I Hate About You – and while it's less flashy than those two, it has a certain low-key appeal and degree of "realism" that generate particular interest. The dialogue is a step above, and there are certain character beats that reflect Thomas's skill & sensibilities. Cool soundtrack, too...
