Comparing the Strokes to Oasis? A double-pronged insult, is it not? (Not that I've HEARD the Strokes - I'm still hoping for more of a taste of those Moldy Peaches.)

I heard the strokes on Front row last night and they were indeed rubbish.

At home: Beck's.

At a bar: Budweiser in a bottle.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

And these days: ginger.

bottle of bud is definately the classic while out.

Corona. I guess I like the lime. Heiniken. When I'm feeling cheap and beer-busty, Bud Draft.

Arthur, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Bud Light (gotta support the hometown). Or Honey Brown.

the great thing about fosters is we export the thing - nobody in their right or wrong mind would drink that shit in australia, even if they were in the desert and all the koala's piss had dried up. serves you poms right for colonising us i guess.

As white beers go, Leffe is a pretty good Hoegarden substitute.

Top Tip Drinkers: Don't mix white wine and powerful decongestant tablets unless you want think you have been chucked out of a bar and wake up the next morning unable to perform simple tasks like having a shower without having to lie on the bathroom floor for several minutes first.

Kronenborg seems to slip down my throat most often - with the Fat Man himself Mr Ayingerbrau coming a close second. Yesterday though had a Grolsch, Cobra and Red Stripe all on tap which played havok with my late doors digestion.

Cooking Lagers: Tennants, McEwans, Miller (when in Scotland); Carling (when down South).

Posh Lager: Kronenbourg; Grolsch; Budvar; Staropramen.

Stella guarantees a hangover, Kronenburg almost always does.

Guinness.

Plus: London Pride, in pubs that serve it. Rubbish overpriced lager, at gigs. Light ale for the price and the Smiths. In cans, Miller - why is it better value than comparable lagers?

I never found out whether Steady Mike forgave me for filling his fridge with Hoffmeister and 'Ship Ale' that time.

Black Sheep, very quaffable. Unfortunately probably end up drinking John Smiths smooth due to it's unavailability outside N Yorks.

In Scotland Tennents 70 shilling or Belhaven Best, not that they're the best of course.

Billy Dods, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I did forgive you, Pinefox - I just didn't want to be *seen* doing it, and thought of as soft on bad lager.

I haven't been out of the house in 9 days (and I've been on chlorpheniramine maleate) - I can't actually remember what beer tastes like. I think Sam Smith's OB tops my chart since I moved to London (before that it was Hoegaarden - 99p bottles from Tesco).

Smithwicks. It's the Irish beer that's most like an English beer.

DV, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

since going into sam smiths pubs a lot more often i have rediscovered the lovely soverign bitter. cheap, vegan and v v tasty (a bit like me really har har)

katie, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

London Pride - lots of pubs in Oxford serve it. Despite drinking in the Three Goats heads fairly regularly, I have bever noticed Sovreign, prolly coz i head straight for the Extra Stout when I'm there...num num. In about equal quantities after London Pride, I drink Morrells Varsity, Morland Original and Ruddles County. Theakston XB if I'm in the Radcliffe Arms.

The bubbles in a glass of beer exhibit a kind of reverse gravity; they accelerate as they ascend

calstars, Sunday, 13 January 2019 18:58 (five years ago) link

Probably the Lidl weissbier if I'm at home. Guinness in a pub.
