Expo 70 sounds like electronic music 1981 (with some sort of Pauline Oliveros accordion drone intro--or was that not an accordion?).

Wait, Michael Hurley is considered "avant rock" now?? (Guessing his records are still too slow and quiet for me regardless, but you never know. Still wish he'd make something like Have Moicy! again.)

― xhuxk, Saturday, December 18, 2010 12:53 PM (2 hours ago) Bookmark

if you get a chance you should check out the Ida Con Snock LP from last year, more energy than any Hurley record in, well, uh, decades.

sleeve, Saturday, 18 December 2010 23:45 (thirteen years ago) link

i just sent the wire a list of rap shit that i liked. they alphabetized it weirdly (ie. Porter, Travis; Marciano, Roc) which can be confusing. i don't actually think that cam'ron and vado is #1.

whiney did you listen to 6 kiss specifically? i saw you lump him in with die antwood on that list where you rant about things you hate which makes me think you didn't.

Snubbing the Perennial Critics' Darlings Department: I have not seen the Magnetic Fields 'Realism" album mentioned on any poll, anywhere. This makes me want to go back and listen to it again. I don't remember a single song, or even a title, from it.

didn't see the popmatters country. #13 in rolling stone seems begrudging, but ok.

That is a great list.

Thanks, it's a relief to be done. If I spent any more time re-listening and reconsidering most of those albums, I'd go crazy. Time for the annual massage to fix my neck. Since last night I've already learned about six more albums I would have liked to have considered, but I'm done. Apologies for anyone fond of the Grinch. I couldn't resist.

Fastnbulbous, Monday, 20 December 2010 17:57 (thirteen years ago) link

um, the grinch is a mean one iirc

Ooh yeah! Thanx! Do you have an album list anywhere?

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:29 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm trying to figure out where to post my top 100 or 150 or however many it is albums. (Not gonna start a blog or even an ILM thread just for that purpose, but I want to put it somewhere. Maybe I'll just make it a comment on somebody else's blog, or something.)

xhuxk, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:42 (thirteen years ago) link

start a thread here for it! and then start a blog.

scott seward, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah xhuxk just paste it here.

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:46 (thirteen years ago) link

Nah, that's not what this thread is for. I'm not a poll! Or even a magazine.

My extended singles list is such a mess I'm not even gonna attempt it. (I.e., the order's all out of whack, and hurts my head whenever I start trying to fix it, and in the past month or two I haven't even been adding new singles I liked. There's just been too many, and callibrating is starting to feel like work. Did manage a good P&J top ten, though.)

xhuxk, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh pshaw. Just do it. Besides, don't you remember that rare X-Ray Spex b-side "Xhuxk is a Poll"?

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:48 (thirteen years ago) link

Wherever you end up posting it, make sure you let us know, that is one I'll really want to see. I think you should start a thread about the blog you'll start to generate buzz website you've created that will provide links to where we can buy the book you'll publish which will feature the list you've compiled.
